Robotics Club

Lake Street elementary school has a

new club this year: Lake Street Robot-

ics. This club began with a grant from

TechPoint Foundation which gave Lake

Street a VEX-IQ Starter Kit and training

this past summer. Sara Colvin began

her club with a group of six students in

fourth and fifth grade. These students

have been working since late August to build a drivable

robot to complete tasks in a competition. Students meet

every Monday and Wednesday for an hour to assemble

and practice driving their robot. This club will partici-

pate in competitions around the area to see which teams

can score the most points in this year’s game. Robots

must move pieces around a game board to receive

points. The team with the most points will win the com-

petition. This club will benefit students at Lake Street by

engaging them in STEM concepts (Science, Technology,

Engineering, and Math).

Lake Street’s first graders, along with some of their parents celebrated John-

ny Appleseed’s birthday by doing different projects using apples. The classes

read stories about apples, made cooking pot hats, apple stew, as well as did

activites graphing and counting apples.
