No One Goes Hungry in LA CountyMobilizing Resources. Fighting Hunger.
In 1973, the Food Bank began in a 200-square foot garage and used a 1962 truck that was donated to the organization.
Tony Collier, a cook at the Grandview Foundation in Pasadena, began collecting and distributing food.
Collier received more food donations than anticipated and decided to share food with organizations that helped the hungry.
Our History
1,250,000 lbsof food was distributed in 1980, feeding more
than 9,000 people a week.

The Food Bank responds to the 2nd major disaster in 3 years, the
Northridge earthquake, by keeping food flowing to charities serving
people in need.
Food distribution increased to 22 million pounds.

Backpack Program This program ensures that children do not go hungry on the days they are not in school. Every Friday
during the school year, children receive a backpack full of food for the weekend. More than 2,600 backpacks per week are distributed.
After-School Meals This program distributes food to 39 school centers, boys and girls clubs, YMCA’s at an average of 2,800
meals each day.

A resource where teachers who work at qualifying schools can pick out school supplies for their students, including paper, pencils, books and other materials that teachers might go without or purchase on their own.
The goal of LA Regional Food Bank is to collect and distribute nutritious food to people at risk for hunger in LA County– 4,000 SQ miles with the largest population of any county in the nation.
Food is distributed through a network of 680 partner agencies that include food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, and youth and senior centers.
