Leslie McClinton, the team’s lone sen- ior, scored 18 points in the win. Sopho- more guard Lexee Jenkins added 11. “I was proud of our team for the inten- sity they played with against Karnes City,” said McClinton. “The entire team contributed for the Bi-District victory.” “I believe that if we continue to play as a team and stay positive, we can beat Boling.” “I especially would like to thank our parents for their continued support throughout the season.” Schultz added, “If we play sold defensively and take care of the ball and rebound, we should be all right against Boling.” “Our girls are playing with a lot of confidence because of the success they had in softball and track last year, and the success they had in vol- leyball this year.” “The girls have really stepped up and every- one is contributing.” The Blanco Lady Panthers play Boling in Area playoff action tonight in Flatonia. Game time is 7:00 PM. Boling finished as champs of District 26-AA with an 11— 1 record. It was the Bulldogs’ first district title since 1988— 89, and will be their first trip to the playoffs since 2005—06. “Boling has a 6’ 1” girl who is very long,” said head coach Stuart Schultz. “They also have a guard who picks her spots to play.” “They play a 1—3– 1 zone defense, and will press a 1— 2—1—1 full court press. I feel good about our quickness and speed.” The Panthers punched their ticket to the Area round by defeating Karnes City 50—41 in a Bi-District contest held in Luling Tuesday night. It was a game of momentum. Blanco led the Badgers 26— 11 at one point of the second quarter, only to have their op- ponents fight back and actually take a short-lived 1-point fourth quarter lead. A stingy defense and clutch shooting (both from the field and at the line) down the stretch secured the Panthers’ victo- ry. “I am so proud of the girls,” said Schultz. “They kept their composure when things got ugly.” “I knew it was going to be a battle, because Karnes City is in the toughest district in Region 4.” Board of Trustees Matt Herden, President Troy Immel, Vice President Kirk Felps, Secretary Tim Nance Charles Riley Bernie San Miguel Darrel Wagner Superintendent Dr. Buck Ford Leslie McClinton (photo Diana Schwind)

BISD Spanish teachers Shirley Johnson and Edit Quintanilla were recognized at Monday night’s school board meeting. “These are two of the hardest working teachers at Blanco High School,” said high school principal Dustin Barton. “These two teachers work long hours and go above and beyond of what is required.” “I often see their vehicles in the parking lot when I leave work. They are dedicate to ensuring the students of BHS suc-ceed when learning Spanish.” “Starting this year, BHS now offers four levels of Spanish.” “They also work together to sponsor the Spanish Club” Barton went on to note the various cultural/club activities they engage in, the work they do with struggling students, and other services they provide for the school.

Blanco Boys Reign as Co-Champs of District 27-AA

Play Ingram Tonight to Determine Playoff Seeding

“We found a way to win, and at this point, that’s all that mat-ters,” said head coach Jeff Akin following Blanco’s 50—49 win over Johnson City Tuesday night that secured the Panthers’ District 27-AA co-championship with Ingram. “We knew Johnson City would come out strong. Then their best player (Jaxson Riebesehl—29 points) got rolling and hit some really tough shots—he’s a real good player, and Dave (Ramirez) made him earn everything he got.” A non-elimination game with Ingram to determine playoff seeding will be played tonight at Boerne Geneva High School at 7:00 PM. The two teams, which finished the district season with 7—1 records, split the season series. “This is really turning into a very good rivalry,” said Coach Akin. “I think each team brings out the best in the other.” “We let one get away the first time through in a game that still sickens me, and we put it on them pretty good over here. I guess the rubber game was inevitable.” “I think the team is confident in what we can do, and I’m sure Ingram is as well. It’s an interesting clash of styles—theirs predicated on offense, and ours on nasty, in-your-face de-fense.” A win by the Panthers tonight will secure a first-round bye in the state playoffs. A loss, and Blanco will probably play Schu-lenburg in San Marcos on Tuesday night. “It’s difficult to win seven games in a row against teams that have scouted and planned for you all season,” said Akin, refer-ring to the Panthers’ run after their opening loss to Ingram. “It’s a credit to these young men’s focus that they were able to get all the way through that. They took things the proverbial one game at a time until they were finished with their goal.”

The Blanco Boys golf team finished third out of twelve teams at the Ingram Warrior golf tournament held Monday at Schreiner golf course in Kerrville. “We shot 336 as a team, which is very good for a first tour-nament,” said coach Scott Balmos. “We are looking for our third championship in three years.”
