Law

• Protects plants and wildlife • Gives civil and criminal penalties for

any violations to law• Prohibits trading of wildlife, fish, and

plants that have been illegally taken, transported or sold.

• Originally created to protect game species

• Now serves the purpose of preventing spread of exotic species.

• Introduced by John F. Lacey• Administered by the Departments of the

Interior, Commerce, and Agriculture. • Specifically by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife

Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
