Supporting La Purisima’s Student Council
It has been a long tradition that LPCS Student Coun-cil chooses an organization to donate the collection from each Friday 8:15 am school Mass as part of their mission/student learning expectations of “Extend Your Hand”. The first trimester is a global organiza-tion, the second trimester is a national group, and the third trimester is a local community organization. They research the group, check its rating, and send the group for approval by the principal. First trimester's group was Sante Kasando, a health clinic located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is one of the clinics founded by the Sisters of the Company of Mary. LPCS will be sending the Sisters a check for $1,760.00, which they will forward to the clinic. Second trimester’s collection is for the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Please direct any questions regarding this collection to the student council faculty advisor Ms. Valdez at [email protected].
P B M Prayer blankets and shawls are available in the Par-ish Office. If you or someone you know is experienc-ing an illness or going through a difficult time, a blan-ket or shawl made with prayer and care can provide
a wonderful comforting hug. Donations of fabric, flan-nel, yarn and money are welcome, and can be
dropped off at the parish office. The Prayer Blanket Ministry meets every 2nd Saturday of the month in the conference room opposite the Trinity Hall 9-

Next week, March 14-15, we will take up the Collec-tion for the Church in Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. For many in Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe, a rising secular culture difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers present ob-stacles to practicing the faith. LP Fish Fry—2020 We are assembling the team to put on the Fish Fry 2020, the
24the year of the LP Fish Fry. We are in need of leads in sev-eral areas and workers in most areas. If you are anxious for the return and success of the Fish Fry, please let us know that you
would like to help rebuild this great parish event. The lead spots open include: Team Taco, pizza warmer, fish fryers, in-ventory, hall cleaning, and trash management. Team members are needed for the Fryers, cleaning, set-up, front counter, pur-

Fish Fry for All Program
Many generous donors have contributed over $5,000 to help defray the food costs for the Fish Fry. Still many cannot afford the Fish Fry. The “Fish Fry for All” program will allow the less fortunate of the parish to attend as well. For $7.00 per person, your donation will provide a Fish and Chips or Fish Taco Dinner plus a soft drink. Coupons for these dinners will be dis-tributed through the Trinity Guild. Please place your donations in the special containers at the Cashiers Station. You may also drop your donation at the Church Office. Don’t just give up something for Lent. Do something positive and help those less fortunate to enjoy the Fish Fry this year.

Có nhiều người thắc mắc: Ăn chay là gì? Ph ải chăng là để dằn vặt thân xác, hành khổ con người cho Chúa vui lòng? Hỏi như vậy là chưa hiểu đạo, chưa hiểu hết ý nghĩa của việc ăn chay. Chúa đâu phải quá độc ác, bệnh hoạn, vui lòng khi thấy con người chịu khốn khổ. Ăn chay một phầ để hy sinh đền tội, nhưng mục đích chính của việc ăn chay là thao luyện tâm hồn chống lại quỷ dữ. Ngày nay người ta quên sự có mặt của ma quỷ. Nhưng ma quỷ vẫn có đó và vẫn tích cực hoạt động nhằm phá hủy thế giới, tiêu diệt con người. Ma quỷ rất tinh ma xảo quyệt nên người ta khó nhận ra âm mưu, dấu vết của chúng. Nhìn vào ba cuộc ma quỷ cám dỗ Đức Giêsu, ta thấy ma quỷ rất tinh khôn. Nó có kế hoạch, có chiến thuật, tấn công nhiều đợt, nhiều bước. Thoạt tiên ma quỷ tấn công vào những bản năng sơ đẳng nhất nơi con người: bản năng sinh tồn, bản năng thống trị, bản năng đối nghịch. Kéo chú ý của người ta vào những nhu cầu rồi, ma quỷ tiến bước thứ hai, đó là phóng đại những nhu cầu đó lên, làm cho người ta lầm tưởng rằng, đó là những nhu cầu cấp bách, phải thỏa mãn ngay tức khắc. Khi ta đã hoàn toàn mê mẩn vì cái bẫy nhu cầu, ma quỷ mới đẩy ta đến bước thứ ba, đó là tìm thỏa mãn những nhu cầu theo ý riêng mình. Cách giải quyết đó ngược lại với ý muốn của Thiên Chúa. Mục đích sau cùng là của ma quỷ là xúi giục ta phản loạn, không sống tâm tình người con hiếu thảo với Chúa, chống lại Chúa và sau cùng lìa xa Thiên Chúa. Khi ma quỷ phóng đại nhu cầu, muốn cho Chúa Giêsu tưởng rằng con người chỉ là vật chất, chỉ sống nhờ bánh vật chất, vật chất là tất cả đời sống. Chúa Giêsu đã sáng suốt chỉ cho ta thấy vật chất không là tất cả, bánh vật chất của trần gian là cần, nhưng bánh tinh thần của trời cao còn cần hơn. Ma quỷ vẫn đang tiếp tục tạo nên những cơn cám dỗ. Ta rơi vào âm mưu ma quỷ khi ta muốn có tất cả và có tức khắc. Ta hoàn toàn nằm trong vòng tay ma quỷ khi ta dùng mọi phương tiện để thỏa mãn những nhu cầu, bất chấp ý Thiên Chúa. Mùa chay này, Chúa kêu gọi tôi về với Chúa. Muốn trở về với Chúa, tôi phải chiến đấu chống lại ma quỷ. Muốn đủ sức chống lại ma quỷ, tôi phải luyện tập bỏ ý riêng mình và tìm vâng phục ý Chúa. Hãy đặt ra cho mình một chương trình sống mùa chay bằng tăng cường hy sinh, cầu nguyện, ăn chay và làm việc bác ái. TGM Giuse Ngô Quang Kiệt

Những sinh hoạt/hội thảo đều được phép của Đức Thánh Cha ban Ơn Toàn Xá dành cho những ai đến tham dự. Sắp đến Hội Dòng sẽ tổ chức buổi Đi Bộ và Cầu Nguyện (Pray-a-thon), thứ Bảy 25 tháng 4, 2020, tại Mile Square Park (Freedom Hall), từ 8 giờ sáng đến 2 giờ trưa.
