Las Posadas Processions begin on

the 16th and last until the 24th

Parties are held every night in different homes and people celebrate the journey that Mary and Joseph took looking for lodging (Posada).

Las Posadas Las Posadas last

for 9 nights. People go to a

different house each night and have a fiesta.

They sing, dance, eat and break a piñata.

La Noche Buena

The Posadas end on the 24th (La Nochebuena).

Everyone goes to mass at midnight (La Misa del Gallo).

Families gather and have a feast after mass.

El Nacimiento On December 24,

la Nochebuena, the nativity scene is completed and the baby Jesus is placed in the manger.

The twelve days of Christmas

The children anxiously await the arrival of Los Reyes Magos on January 6.

They prepare and leave their shoes by the door filled with hay for the camels.

El Día de los Reyes Magos

When the children awaken on January 6 they find the shoes are empty and their gifts have been brought by the three wise men.

El Día de los Reyes la Merienda

Rosca de Reyes is a sweet bread served on January 6. A figure of baby Jesus is hidden in it.The person who finds it has a party on Candelmas, Feb. 2, when the holidays come to an end.

El Día de la Candelaria The Nativity scene is put away. A party is given by the person who

found the baby Jesus in the Rosca and tamales are served.

This is the end of the holiday season.
