    DAY OF THE DEAD

    CULTURE AND DRESS IN MEXICO

    RELIGIOUS IMPORTANCE

Generally, the more urban the setting within Mexico the less the religious and cultural

significance is retained by tourists, while the more rural and Indian the greatest place is

religious and economic import holiday . Because of this, this observance is usually of

greater social importance in southern Mexico than in the northern part of the country,

which is characterized by more dilute Indian cultural influence .

The traditional observance calls for a feast during the early morning hours of November2nd, the Day of the Dead proper , though modern urban Mexican families usually observe

the Day of the Dead with only a special family dinner featuring " bread of the dead "( pan

de muerto ) . It's good luck to be the one who bites into the plastic toy skeleton hidden by

the baker in each rounded loaf . Friends and family members give one another gifts

consisting of sugar skeletons or other items with a death motif , and the gift is most prized

if the skull or skeleton is embossed with his name.

TWO IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT THE MEXICAN DAY OF THE DEAD

    * It is a holiday with a complex history, and therefore its observance varies quite a bit by

region and degree of urbanization .

    * It is not morbid occasion, but rather a festive time.

This is an older festivita that has transformed much over the years , but it was intended in

prehispanic Mexico to celebrate children and the dead. Therefore, the bestway to describe this Mexican holiday Day ie it is a time when Mexican families remember

their dead and the continuity of life .

The original celebration can be traced to the festivities held during the month of the Aztec

god of Miccailhuitontli , ritually presided by the goddess Mictecacihuatl ( "Lady of the

Dead" ) , and dedicated children and the dead. The rituals during this month also offered a

feast dedicated to the chief deity of the Aztec war , Huitzilopochtli. In the calendar of

Azteca , this ritual fell roughly at the end of the Gregorian month July and early August ,

but before the conquest was moved by Spanish priests to coincide with the Christian

holiday of all hallow eve ( in Spanish : " All Saints Day " ) in a futile effort to transform this "

a profane " to a Christian celebration. The result is that the Mexican is now celebrating the

Day of the Dead during the first two days of November , rather than at the beginning of

summer, but remember the dead they still do , and the modern festival is characterized by

the traditional Mexican blend aboriginal and introduced Christian features old .

    WHAT IS

Generalizing broadly, the day's activities include visits from families to the graves of their

close kin . In family members engage in sprucing up , to decorate it with flowers , to clarify

and to enjoy a picnic, and interacting socially with other family and community members

gathering at the cemetery. Families remember out telling stories about them. Prepared

meals for these picnics are sumptuous , usually featuring meat dishes in spicy sauces, a

special egg - I spoil bread , cookies , chocolate and sugary sweets in a variety of forms of

animal or skull . Family altars are profusely decorated with flowers flowers , and decorated

with religious and ( in smaller villages ) with offerings of food, cigarettes and alcohol

amulets. Because of this warm social environment, the colorful setting , and the

abundance of food, drink and good company this commemorations of the dead has

pleasant overtones for most observers , despite the open fatalism exhibited by all

participants, that festive and absolutely live interaction with an important social ritual is a

way of recognizing the cycle of life and death that is human existence.

    WHEN SURGE

The Day of the Dead on November 2 arises .

That day , the withdrawal of the soul of the child is gradually as they enter the adult , who

will remain at home until the afternoon of day 2, which is believed to return back to the

    kingdom of the dead.
