Kym’s Korner I had the pleasure this week, of accompanying our school leaders to both the National Young Leaders Day and the Mayoral Morning Tea. All of your year six leaders were invited to apply for one of the four positions available and I was very pleased with the quality of the applica-tions. I was proud to see our leaders so engaged by the speakers and brimming with ideas on leadership and how to help others.
Next week Mrs Trenaman and I will be attending a regional conference on Maths for two days. Miss O’Leary will be covering our class on Wednesday and Thursday. Lachlan Matthews will be completing some work experience in the 5&6 classroom next week as well. Thankyou to Mrs Thornton and Mrs James for working with our students this term. Next term Mrs McDon-ald will return to her role as SEP teacher and she will also be taking on learning support.
Miss Dowe has been very busy organising the Easter Eggstravaganza! I hope you all have a fun and enjoyable day. Happy Easter to all of you, enjoy your rest over the holidays and come back full of energy for term two.

Donations are being accepted for the P&C Annual Easter Raffle. Donations can be dropped off to the school office. Raffle tickets have been sent home. This is a huge raffle, in the past we have had over 100 prizes!! Please remember the pro-ceeds from this fundraiser will help every student in our school.
Last year we applied for an Anzac Centenary Local Grant, in which we were successful. This week we had a new me-morial installed next to our flag pole. Thank you to JH
Wagner & Sons. This area is a work in progress as we have plans to build a garden area
around it.
Last Friday four of our year six students at-tended the National Young Leaders Conference
in Brisbane along with three-thousand other stu-dent leaders. Our student leaders were given the opportunity to write an application for one of the four positions at the conference and our talented
winners were Casey, Jeanie, Taylah and Alex. At the conference there were a number of wonder-ful guest speakers including Mike Martin, Exec-utive Director of Halogen Foundation, the spon-sor of the event, wildlife and conservation advo-cate Bindi Irwin, organ donation advocate Coen Ashton, Juliette Wright founder of the charity
website ‘Givit’ and James Norton technical advi-sor and inspiration for the movie ‘Paper Planes’. While listening to these speakers it became ap-
parent that each of them had something in com-mon, they have all had to deal with adversity, setbacks and disappointments in their lives.
However they all made the conscious decision to move on and keep trying, never giving up and making the most of their lives to go on and be-
come successful leaders inspiring others. Our four leaders were able to learn a lot from
their experience and they truly enjoyed the day!

Newsletter Update
This will be our last hard copy newsletter sent home with students. In a push to reduce our
carbon footprint, we are encouraging all families to access our newsletter via our website. An
email is sent to everyone who has provided their email address with a link to our website when
each newsletter has been uploaded. Please also take the time to download the free QSchools app (link available from our
website). This app is fantastic for adding date claimers to your personal phone calendar, keeping up with news etc. Please make sure when choosing Wellcamp State School as one of
your “favourite” schools, that you allow for push notifications. This comes in handy for last minute
announcements.
If you don’t have access to the internet, and you still require a hard copy of the newsletter, you can collect one from the
office from 3pm on newsletter days.

Head Lice It is important for you to regularly check your child’s head for head lice. If you do find head lice, commence treatment immediately and be sure to complete the process of treatment. This will help prevent head lice from spreading. Remember to keep checking your family member’s heads every 2 days until there are no head lice found for 10 consecutive days. Thank you.
FROM THE GUIDANCE OFFICER FAMILY SQUABBLES
Parents often worry about brothers and sisters quarrelling. A certain amount of quarrelling is normal for children in families. It is one of the ways that they learn how to get on with other people. Quarrelling can be positive. Sometimes, however, you will need to step in when tempers become frayed and you can see that things are getting out of control. What causes quarrelling? Learning to get on with others Arguments between brothers and sisters are one of the ways that children learn to respect other people’s belongings and feelings. It is one of the ways children learn to solve problems. Learning to argue fairly and without hurting each other will help them get on with others. Parents’ attention Children in families also fight about parents’ love and attention. To children love means time and attention. Young children do require more attention, but allocating time to an older child is just as important and will make for better relationships all round. Health When feeling unwell, resistance can be low for coping with adversity. We may be more sensitive to comments and less able to manage our own emotions. What parents can do Here are some steps you can take to help lessen quarrels.
• Protect the needs of each child, for example prevent older children’s activities from being interfered with by younger children and vice versa.
• Spend special time with each child on a regular basis. • Allow each child to own some special things of their own that they don’t have to share. For
younger children, see that there is more than one of the same toys, such as matchbox cars, so that they can play together without having to share. Two second hand bicycles are often better fun than one new one that has to be shared. If you have three children make sure that the same one is not left out every time.
• Invite other children over – children learn social skills through exposure and practise • Children need their own bit of space which will not be interfered with by others, even if it is
only a drawer. • Try not to compare children with each other - this always leads to bad feelings. • Be generous with hugs and affection to all your children –even the teenager that appears to
pull away – deep down they love the contact. • Make ground rules. Get your children to help you make some rules about what behaviour is
not allowed in your home, for example: name calling or hitting, compared to being respectful. Then if you have to step in, you do so because someone has broken a rule, not to take sides.
• When you can see that children are feeling upset, help them to find ways to express their feelings. For young children, this might be through play that includes water play, painting and playdough. For older children and adolescents, it may be something like going for a run or playing their music, and especially using the opportunity to talk with them and teach them how to problem-solve for themselves.
• Maintain good health - Healthy, active children may exhibit greater tolerance / resilience and manage their emotions more appropriately when needed
Children need adults to teach them how to solve problems, and while squabbles may be annoying and stressful they also may be the means of teaching resilience as well as developing skills for managing relationships throughout our lives.
