Careers CornerTwo 2016 Year 12 students dropped in for a visit this week. Liam Higgins is studying a double degree in Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Global Studies at Australian Catholic University in Brisbane. Kiani Evans is also studying a double degree in Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of International Studies through Griffith University (Nathan Campus) in Brisbane. Both ex students are loving their tertiary studies but admit to missing their school days.

Tiarnah Strudwick also from the class of 2016 dropped by to visit her old school. Tiarnah completed a School Based Traineeship as part of her Year 12 Studies and is now working full time at Nazareth Residential Aged Care in Brisbane. Tiarnah loves working with the elderly and believes her School based Traineeship she completed at Crowley prepared her well for employment in this field. Relocating to Brisbane was exciting and challenging, but she is thrilled to have full time employment. Tiarnah recommends a career in Aged Care and doing a School Based Traineeship if the opportunity arises.

Support Unit Excursion To Lake AinsworthThe Lennox Head Surf Lifesaving Club were amazing in helping the Ballina Coast High School Support Unit staff and students improve their surf awareness, swimming, rescuing skills and board paddling.

The day started off with 12 students willing and keen to get in the water. First they learnt how to read the surf, and the dangers of the water. ‘Flags’ involved the kids having a great time diving and sprinting in the sand!!

Finally the kids could enjoy the surf, competing in an individual race around two surf club members, 20m out into waist deep water, 20m along the waves breaking and 20m back in.

Students then participated in activities at Lake Ainsworth where the surf club members taught the students how to do tube and board rescues. Plenty of students showed promising rescuing abilities, others enjoyed the challenge.

We finished off the day with an introduction to the rubber ducky and the jet ski. They also had the opportunity to go on a few beach trips in the All Terrain Vehicle and were shown what to look out for when you are on roaming patrol.

A huge thank you to the volunteers Bob, Andrew, Adam and Sam. They did a wonderful job organising and coordinating the activities, all with a massive smile on their face.
