EFFICIENCY IS IN OUR DNAEFFICIENCY AND ENERGY-SAVINGS IS PART OF OUR CULTURE

From the day the company was founded in 1942, Marcus Transformer has focused its technology on providing its customers with the most efficient and cost-effective products available on the market. Having set its own

high standards for over 60 years, Marcus already met the efficiency standards mandated early in the 21st century. The table below illustrates the efficiency of a Marcus Transformer in 1962 versus the recently mandated standards.

MARCUS SUPREME™: CONSTRUCTIONWhile loading varies depending on the application, no-load core loss is always present 24hours a day. Utility grade wound cores have been used solely for oil-filled, pole-mounted transformers where losses equal lost revenue. Marcus pioneered the application of the wound core to dry-type distribution transformers where losses equal lost revenue. First we introduced our single gap oval core, then the multiple-gap model and now finally the DG Octa-CoreTM.

2012: THE MARCUS SUPREME™ (MHE)Following the Marcus tradition of producing transformers with the lowest losses and therefore the Lowest Total Cost of Ownership we introduce the MARCUS SUPREME™. We have combined the Marcus technology with the most cutting-edge, modern materials available to produce the most effective transformers available today.

The MARCUS SUPREME™ generates a minimum of 33% less losses than the regulated standards (CSA C802.2 and NEMA TP-1) mandate and meets the most severe efficiency levels of the recommended DOE CSL-3 as seen in the chart below. This translates into significant dollar savings for both retrofit and new installations.

THE DISTRIBUTED-GAP WOUND COREAT THE HEART OF ENERGY SAVINGSAROUND THE CLOCK EFFICIENCY

ENERGY SAVINGS = $ DOLLAR SAVINGSThe installation of a MARCUS SUPREME™ in place of a less efficient transformer will result in a savings in both the short term and in the Total Life Cycle of the installation.

Projects ideally suited for the highest efficiency transformers are both retrofitting older facilities and upgrading new construction.

RETROFITSTransformers installed in buildings completed before the standards were implemented were not designed with efficiency in mind and consume more power than today’s units. The replacement of these transformers by the MARCUS SUPREME™ can provide significant savings and constitutes an excellent opportunity to reduce your electricity bill. In many cases, payback will occur in 2 to 4 years.

Example 1: Replacing a 45KVA non-compliant transformer, continuously loaded at 50%, by a MARCUS SUPREME™ will provide you with a $618 saving for one year, $18,540.00 over a thirty year period.

Example 2: Replacing a 112.5KVA non-compliant transformer, continu-ously loaded at 75%, 16 hours per day and 35% loaded 8 hours per day by a MARCUS SUPREME™will provide you with a $1,210.33 saving for one year, $36,310.00 over a thirty year period.

($1494 savings x 16 hours/24 hours + $643 savings x 8 hours/24 hours = $1,210.33 30 years x $1,210.33per year= $36,310 total)

NEW INSTALLATIONSAlthough transformers compliant with the present mandated minimum efficiency are superior to the older non-regulated units, the chart on the right, demonstrates how there are savings available by installing a superior transformer. The critical factor in the choice of transformers in a new installation should be the Total Cost of Ownership.

TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP = INITIAL COST + OPERATING COST

Since the MARCUS SUPREME™ has a life cycle of 30 years. The savings made during the life of the transformer far outweigh the initial purchase price.

This example shows the economy that can be achieved using a MARCUS SUPREME™ instead of transformer compliant to CSA 802 and DOE level 1.

Example: Using (4) x 225KVA, (2) x 150 KVA and (1) x 45 KVA at 35% continuous load. One year saving is 4 x 364 +2 x 280 + 2 x 117= 2230 The 30 years lifetime savings would be $66,900
