Embark on a powerful journey of revelation and authentic self-expression as we explore the vi-brant heart of the ancient Yoga traditions and expand the common understanding and practice of Vinyasa Yoga. Although ‘Vinyasa’ refers to the importance of linking movements with breath, it also has a deeper meaning: ‘The ritualistic laying down of a pattern, committed to over time and ap-proached skillfully as an ongoing, unfolding process.’ This comprehensive 200hr training program embodies the essence of yoga, which is UNION by combining mindful, integrated teachings from individual systems such as Classical Hatha, Tantra, Kundalini, Anusara, Ashtanga, Bhakti Yoga and both traditional and modern styles of Vinyasa, sound and vibration plus experiential anatomy and Tension and Trau-ma Releasing Exercises™.Our intention is to guide each individual student towards their unique true expression as a practitioner or a teacherof this incredible and personal evolutionary path. SAT NAM, OM TAT SATincredible and personal evolutionary path.

TRE™ is a gentle, simple and profound technique that facilitates the lengthen-ing and relaxation of the psoas muscle. This relaxation provides a very effective release of physical and emotional tension and stress. The psoas muscle acts as

a guardian of our lower belly. In its role of protector of our organs, it contracts and tightens in response to life’s traumatic experiences large and small.

TRE™ (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises™) was developed by Dr. David Berceli. He has used it successfully all over the world for two decades

working with soldiers, firefighters, police officers and survivors of war, earthquakes and other traumatic circumstances to help alleviate the many

symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

Maria Alfaro is a native Italian who lives in Santa Cruz, California. She has been designated as a TRE™ Trainer by Dr. David Berceli, creator of TRE™ Maria has been

teaching Yoga internationally since 1997 and she also has a background in martial arts and Esalen Massage. Since 2004 she has taught TRE™

to thousands of people and led TRE™ workshops and trainings in North America and in Europe. She also assisted Dr. Berceli

in numerous trainings both in the US and in South Africa. Please visit Maria's website or contact her with any con-

cerns about this workshops and any questions about the TRE™ Certification Program.

MIND & MEDITATIONA LEVEL II MODULEBALI, INDONESIA

MASTER YOUR MINDDeepen your practice of meditation, clarify the relationship between you and your mind, and ex-plore the basic nature and dynamics of the mind. Our relationship to our own mind is pivotal in effectively realizing our true nature and fulfilling our potential. Yogi Bhajan often reminded us that we come to Earth to experience our humanity and recognize the One Infinite Being that creates all and which is in all. The greatest power is the ability to act with a Neutral Mind, to use intuition along with applied intelligence and to lean on the Infinite through the sacred science known as prayer. This course was designed by Yogi Bhajan PhD, the Master of Kundalini Yoga, and it is based on his doctoral thesis of psychology and yoga. It uses Kundalini Yoga concepts and techniques as tools to open oneself to inner transformation. This is a KRI Level Two Certification program in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan®. It is one of five required to achieve KRI Level Two Practitioner Certification by KRI Level I certified instruc-tors.

Exercise & Good Nutrition Aloneare Not Enough for Optimum Health

By Carl

Page 29: Kula mag 16 October/November/December

So many people wanting to experience greater levels of health, higher levels of vitality, and unlimited supplies of energy head off to the nearest gym, plus

start paying more attention to the food they eat. Then they think they are done. Well they would be done if all we are is a physical me-chanical body that required regular move-ment and fuel for our bodies. But here is the truth – you and I are so much more than the bodies we inhabit.

When we talk about increased health, free-dom from disease, resilience, recovery from trauma, high levels of vitality, and boundless energy; if we don’t consider the mind and heart in the equation we are missing a major part of the equation – which unfortunately is the norm. We need to recognize we are much more than a mechanical 100 trillion cells, but the result of an amazing symphony between body, mind and our emotional bio-chemistry. If we address just one part – the observable physical part – we will never be our best, or most happy.

So the formula for optimum health that needs to be shouted from the rooftops is to not only address the physical aspect of ourselves – physical activity, nutrient rich diets, detoxifying and quality rest – but also to closely address aspects of our mind, heart and the lifestyles we live. The fields of psychoneuroimmunology and epigenetics, for example, shows that our thoughts, emo-tions and the related biochemistry, actually affect the way genes are expressed in our body. Genes of health and healing, or genes

of illness and disease, are turned on or off, according to our environment - especially the internal one created by our beliefs and level of consciousness.

Most of us are clear that physical activity and good nutrition are essential for opti-mum health, but it is time we collectively realized that it is not enough. If you are not at the same time as exercising, also paying attention to your level of mind and the sta-te of your emotions, you won’t achieve the results or happiness that is possible. Addi-tionally, if you don’t see the circumstances of your life having a major impact on your health, then it is time to look again. That to-xic relationship is not just ‘metaphorically’ toxic, it is actually toxic for your body. It will cause you ill health. That job you hate is not just sucking the life out of you; it is actually sucking the life and health out of your body.

So what are we to do? I am all about solu-tions. So let me share with you some great places to start. Firstly, keep moving that body (yoga is one of the best). Exercise is great not only for body health, but for brain health too. Continue to make great choices nutritionally. A rule of thumb is to eat food as close to its source as possible. Cut out processed foods as much as possible and please do away with flavoured drinks, which are the scourge of the last 40 years. Excess sugar does a lot more than just rot your teeth (the hardest bone in your body).

To maintain the most ‘clean’ internal envi-ronment and reduce the load on your body, eat organic and natural foods. Reduce the amount of toxic chemicals you put near, on, or in your body so your body has more time

and energy left for health and healing. Get 7-9 hours of sleep a night. You can survive on less, but that is not the same as thriving. Do an audit of your life and tidy it up. Do you need to get rid of some things (or people) that are unhealthy for your life? Know that you are worthy of the best, and that you are capable of so much more when surrounded by the right environment and people.

Now a very quick peak into the mind. Get conscious. Slow down. Pay attention to where your attention is focused. What stories do you tell yourself about what you can and can’t do? Are you one of your best cheerleaders or do you need to fire the old you? What are your beliefs? Are they serving you or not? How about the language that comes out of your mouth? Is it optimistic or pessimistic? You do know that optimists not only live longer, but also are healthier, and tend to earn more money? Time to practice that optimism!

Know that if you audaciously apply all the things I mentioned above, your health would not only be back in your hands, but it would start heading in the right direction for the long-term. You will never be the best you can be, or achieve the best you can, or enjoy life fully, if you don’t pay special attention to your health. And remember: not just the body. Make sure you give equal attention to the mind, emotions and the bigger picture that is your life, because they all play a very positive (or negative) role in your health, vi-tality and happiness.
