ATTACHMENT “B”

PGY-1 Supplemental Department Benefits Under the terms of the agreement between, Resident Name and the University of Kansas Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics, the following will be furnished to the resident by the K.U. Children's Center Foundation or its successor in interests for the period of this Agreement (July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013).

1. The Department of Pediatrics will pay the application fee for a temporary permit to practice medicine in Kansas at KUMC and its affiliates while in residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

2. The Department of Pediatrics pays for Candidate Membership to the American Academy of Pediatrics, this will provide residents with the professional journal, The Red Book, and access to Pedialink.

3. The Department of Pediatrics pays annual KUMC Student Center Activity Fees and Library Assessment.

4. The Department of Pediatrics pays for KUMC Parking Permit for the "Red" parking zone. 5. The University provides residents with fifteen days of vacation, ten days of sick leave and

two-three days of Continuing Education for Step 3 with pay. 6. The Department of Pediatrics provides residents with a $750.00 allowance for purchase of

professional educational materials (please see Department of Pediatrics Residency Policy Manual for details)

7. The Department of Pediatrics provides coverage for residents to attend residency related social events - as determined by the Chairman until midnight.

8. The Department of Pediatrics provides $200.00 reimbursed toward a one year membership at Kirmeyer Fitness Center

9. The Department of Pediatrics will pay or reimburse for USMLE/COMLEX Step 3 registration (first attempt) if registered prior to April 1st (please see Department of Pediatrics Residency Policy Manual for details).

10. The Department of Pediatrics provide residents with the following educational materials; a Harriet Lane, Nelson’s Essentials of Pediatrics, and Zitelli Atlas of Pediatric Physical Diagnosis textbooks.

11. The Department of Pediatrics pays for initial (one attempt) of BLS, PALS and NRP certifications (if not taken at KUMC, then reimbursed at KU rate)

12. The residency program provides a variety of health snack food in Pediatric Medical Education Center

13. A locker will be provided to you to store personal belongings in the Pediatric Medical Education Center. In case of loss or damage to locker key, a $25.00 replacement cost will be the responsibility of the resident.

14. Residents will receive a $300.00 orientation bonus to be received in July 2011 according to the schedule provided in the information packet.

15. The Department of Pediatrics will provide at no cost the Pediatric Resident a pager during his/her period of training. In case of loss or damage to pager, a $50.00 replacement cost will be the responsibility of the resident, payable within 30 days of loss/damage. Twenty-five dollar late fees will be assessed beyond the 30 days.

Attachment “C” Resident Job Description

Pediatric Level 1(PGY 1): The PGY 1 junior resident will be responsible for the care of their assigned patients under the supervision of a senior resident or faculty member.

• Inpatient rotation responsibilities: completion of an admission H&P containing a complete history, physical examination, developmental assessment, differential diagnosis and management plan; maintenance of the daily ongoing medical record; and entry of discharge summary into O2 which should be done at the time of discharge but which must be done within 48 hours of discharge

• Outpatient rotation responsibilities: care of patients as assigned by their senior or faculty member • Teaching responsibilities at this level pertain to medical students assigned to the same rotation.

Residents will assume progressively increasing responsibility for patient care according to their level of training, ability and experience. The level of responsibility accorded to each resident will be determined by the faculty. PGY 1 Responsibilities: The PGY 1 junior resident will provide patient care under the supervision of senior residents and attending physicians. They are given graduated responsibility for patient care based on training received during the course of residency as well as the experience and knowledge gained by each resident. Junior Residents will: 1. Study/Read during down times on each rotation 2. Completion of monthly board study requirements as determined by the ITE 3. Assist fellow residents- it is not a matter of IF you will be asked to help a colleague but WHEN 4. Write complete admitting medical histories and perform physical examinations, to include developmental

assessments and growth charts 5. Generate a differential diagnosis and management plan 6. Discuss with the supervising resident and/or attending the history and/or physical findings and present a

diagnostic and therapeutic plan 7. Record daily progress notes after assessment of patient and modify notes based on further examination of the

patient and discussion with the attending and/or supervising resident 8. Write orders for patient care based on the plan 9. Provide daily care of patients including common procedures and follow up on x-rays and lab results 10. Develop discharge plan including prescriptions, home health care, and follow up along with the attending

and/or senior resident 11. The PGY 1 resident is responsible for completing the discharge summary within 48 hours of discharge,

and must have all discharges summaries completed at the end of each rotation 12. Closely work with the students, participate in their bedside teaching and follow patients with them 13. Communicate with the patient, the family, attending, other health care professionals on the treatment team

and the referring physician as delegated 14. Be responsible for inpatient junior call as per schedule 15. Participate in Core Curriculum, Resident Conferences, Rounds, and other educational and teaching

conferences. It is expected that PGY 1 residents will be self-directed learners, including continuing education outside of the structured residency educational Program.

16. Provide on-going care as the primary physician to continuity clinic patients, be available to patients at all times, and arrange coverage for patients when unavailable

17. Preparation and registration for USMLE Step 3 to be completed prior to February 1 of the PGY1 year. 18. Other expectations as outlined in Performance Expectations in the Pediatric Residency Handbook Performance Evaluations for PGY 1 Residents The Resident Review Committee will review resident performance on a quarterly basis in October, January, April and June/July. Decisions to not renew contracts or to not promote will be made before March 1st whenever possible in accordance with the Institutional policies. TECHNICAL STANDARDS FOR GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION

THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS MEDICAL CENTER

An AA/EO/Title IX Institution Instructions to Resident/Fellow: Please read carefully the following information. Because the M.D. and D.O degree signifies that the holder is a physician prepared for entry into the practice of medicine within postgraduate training programs, it follows that graduates must have the knowledge and skills to function in a broad variety of clinical situations and to render a wide spectrum of patient care. Therefore, all individuals admitted to the University of Kansas Medical Center Graduate Medical Education program must meet the following abilities and expectations with or without accommodation(s). 20.2 Technical Standards for Graduate Medical Education

20.2.1 Applicants for graduate medical education must have sufficient gross and fine motor skills to be able to independently perform physical examinations of patients and to record their notes and orders. The applicant must be able to physically perform the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures required of physicians in their specialty, and also those that may be required of any physician in an emergency setting. Examples of such procedures include but are not limited to phlebotomy, placement of a nasogastric tube, endotracheal intubation, thoracostomy tube placement, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, manipulation of surgical instruments, and wound suturing and dressing, to list only a few. These activities require both gross and fine sensory-motor coordination, equilibrium, and hand-eye coordination. 20.2.2 Applicants must have sufficient use of the senses of sight, hearing, and touch so as to be able to conduct independent examinations of their patients and to observe or detect the various sign and symptoms of the disease processes that will be encountered in the routine course of their training. The applicant must also have sufficient sensory capabilities to conduct evaluations and examinations in any emergency setting that are reasonably anticipated to be a part of their training program. Examples of the components of such evaluations and

examinations include visual observation of the patient, auditory auscultation and/or percussion of the chest and abdomen, and tactile palpation of the chest, abdomen and extremities. 20.2.3 Applicants must have the ability to efficiently and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with patients, faculty and staff physicians, residents, nurses, and other members of the allied health, academic, business and administrative units of the Medical Center, both in the routine course of patient care and operation, as well as in the event of emergency or crisis. Examples of such communication include written documentation of the history and physical examination, written and/or computerized entry of patient orders and directions for patient care, verbal presentations in rounds, presentation of didactic conferences, oral presentations at academic conferences, and submission of papers for publication. 20.2.4 The applicant must have sufficient cognitive skills to be able to organize, analyze and synthesize complex concepts and information in order to identify and diagnose pathologic processes, formulate appropriate plans for patient management and participate in a graduate medical education program. Participation in the educational program assumes cognitive ability sufficient to acquire and maintain the basic information and fund of knowledge required of all residents in a given program as well as the ability to demonstrate mastery of such information and knowledge through the written and/or oral examination processes including, but not limited to, in-service examinations and the certifying examinations of the various medical specialty colleges and boards. 20.2.5 Applicants must have sufficient behavioral and social skills so as to effectively interact with patients and their families in the examination, diagnosis, treatment, and counseling processes. The resident must also effectively and constructively work with their fellow residents, staff physicians, and nurses as well as personnel in the allied health, academic, administrative and business units of the medical center. The applicant must be capable of perform assigned clinical duties for up to 80 hours/week, on the average. Under certain circumstances, the applicant may be required to exceed this average, but the duty requirements will be in compliance with the policies for graduate medical education. The applicant must also be able to function effectively as a member of the health-care team, academic program, and medical center as a whole under conditions that may change rapidly and without warning in times of transition, crisis or emergency.
