KÜTTNER GMBH & CO. KG

A globally acting group of companies has developed from the engineering company once founded in 1949 by Dr. Carl Küttner. Nowadays, their main focus is on building turn-key plants for the metal producing and pro-cessing industry, especially in the fields of process and smelting technology as well as of materials handling.

The business unit Foundry Technology projects and sup-plies state-of-the-art technology meeting even the highest expectations of progressive foundries. Processing plants for two different foundry types are first and foremost built: for the serial production of green sand castings and for investment castings made in no-bake sands.

Our scope of services comprises the design and engineering, delivery, assembly, as well as the start-up and commissioning of the entire plant including control system and data processing.

Worldwide personnel of Küttner-Group counts more than 550 employees, their owners themselves being active within the company.

FOUNDRY TECHNOLOGY Investment Castings in No-Bake Sand

COMPLETE SYSTEMS – EVEN FOR LARGE INVESTMENT CASTINGS

Knocking out large castings is an extremely noisy and dusty affair, thereby accumulating huge amounts of used sand, chills and core crabs as well as ceramics – all of these pending for being reconditioned to properly reclaimed sand. Why not assigning this challenging job to Küttner?

Dipping into our linecard shows that we can perfectly serve any of your needs:

• Charging installations for electric induction furnaces

• Moulding sand mixers of varying designs putting through up to 100 t/h

• Shake-out stations for large moulding boxes of up to 100 t load

• Proven components for mechanical moulding sand reclamation

• Primary and secondary dedusting systems

KEY COMPONENTS FOR SHAKING OUT AND RECLAMATION

Shake-Out Stations Küttner builds complete stations with shake-out grids for loads of up to 100 t. In the layout of our shake-out stations, much impor-tant operational experience is taken account of, e.g.:

• the oil lubrication of the excenter shaft drives used for the heavy-duty grid stations,

• designs with buffers even for the heavy-duty handling of big and weighty moulding boxes,

• special hood layout optimised in accordance with fluid mechanics so as to reliably collect emissions occurring during shake-out,

• large automatically powered gates incorporating proven safeguards.

The Vibratory Lump BreakerThis rugged unit serves for breaking up any lump of resin-bound moulding as well as core sand down to single grains. It further allows for scree-ning out foreign material.

Additionally, it is well suited for unpoored and broken cores. Metallic residuals and foreign par-ticles present in the material flow are automatically discharged from the crushing tray via a pneumatic flap, by changing the vibration direction.

Airlift for Elevating Hot Return SandThis unit combines two technologies, i.e., fluid-bed and continuously blowing injection process for vertical transport. It is especially suited for hot return sands, as it goes without any valves or rubber parts.

Mechanical friction serves for release of the binder coatings of the conveyed goods during transport and when impinging in the hopper, followed by visual separation.

Cooler Designs for Reclaimed Sand: Shaft or Fluid-Bed CoolerTwo designs have established for cooling reclaimed sand:

Shaft cooler

Working on the principle of gravity, the shaft cooler is further adjusted to final temperature by tempe-rature measurement and a slider positioned at the run-out side. Water serves as coolant.

Fluid-bed cooler

Although needing an additional fan for air cooling plus a dedusting, fluid-bed coolers are compact and more insensitive towards residuals.

Fully automatic crane system

The handling plan is of crucial importance for the design of the charge make-up crane. To meet this challenge we developed the so-called Kangaroo-crane with on-board bunker, so as to quickly collect small components. It is also possible to operate the unmanned crane by laser-beam distance measurement.

Additives

Bigbags became widely accepted for charging additives, whereas carbon is mostly delivered pneumatically. As soon as the master computer has calculated the alloy composition for the respective melt, the material is batched into a transport bucket running on rails to the charging car.

Charging Cars

Various designs are available matching different applica-tions. This spans the whole range from light-weight open vehicles up to soundproof structures for heavy demands, so-called Jumbos. Docking to the furnace hood, the charging car allows the complete capture of all emissions during charging.

Continuous Mixers for Preparation of Moulding Sand from 1 to 100 t/h In the fields of mixing, Küttner prefers the time-tested mixer, the design of which has perfectly been adopted to the challenges of today´s foundry technology.

These continuous mixers are of robust design, easy to operate, and further distinguish by performance, service life, cost effec-tiveness, and they are technically sound. This especially results in a moulding sand blend of high quality, minimum consump-

tion of binders and activating agents, short cycles and mixing intervals, as well as in easy handling and control.
