ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: Good morning, Boss! Can you believe I’m here on time and ready to go?! I even have a surprise for you.

dIRECTOR: What is it?

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: Well, I overheard you talking to Maude, the Executive Producer about how this episode had something to do with goodness. So, I thought I’d play a song for you.

dIRECTOR: A song?

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: Yeah, hit it, Tech Team!

(FX: Play suggested song "Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Fire")

(Assistant Director dances around as song is played.)

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: How did you like that, Boss? It was a good way to kick off the show today; don’t you think?

dIRECTOR: Well, our show does have something to do with goodness, but I’m not sure that’s exactly what I had in mind.

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: It worked though.

dIRECTOR: That it did, --------! Why don’t you head backstage to see if the actors are ready, and I’ll get things started out here.

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: That sounds GOOD, Boss!

(Assistant Director exits.)

dIRECTOR: Sorry to keep you waiting, Studio audience! Welcome to Kidamazoo Studios!

(LIGHTS: Light up the Kidamazoo Studios sign)

dIRECTOR: Before we go any further, we need to go over our Studio rules. It’s important that we follow these rules so we don’t interrupt the taping of our show.

(SLIDE: Show rule slides one at a time and go over them) OFFERING: Explain how bucket wars works and choose one child to come pray for the offering.

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: I sure would. Tech Team, now would be a GOOD time to throw it up.

(Lily is reading her text message responses to Hannah’s texts.)

(SLIDE: Show Hannah: I can’t believe we got to eat lunch with Lucy today! She only lets the cool kids eat lunch with her.)

L ILY : I know! What an exciting day! Do you think she’ll ask us to sit by her tomorrow?

(SLIDE: Show Hannah: IDK but I’m hoping so!)

L ILY : Me too!

(Mom enters.)

MOM: Oh hi, Sweetie! I didn’t even hear you come in. How was your day at school?

LILY: Oh, Mom, I had one of the best days ever! Remember me telling you about the girl at school named Lucy?

MOM: The girl in your science class that is so popular that she has to have her own table at lunch because all of her friends fight to sit by her? The girl who supposedly has a bigger fan club than One Direction™? (sarcastically) Oh, how I wish I could sit at her lunch table!

LILY: Would you like to guess who was at that table today?

MOM: Umm…let me see, I’m going to have to guess, your brother Logan?

LILY: Ha, very funny Mom! It was Hannah and I.

MOM: Wow! How did you manage that?

LILY: I’m really not sure. You see, I was at my locker and Lucy’s best friend, who is also her personal secretary, came up and said that Lucy has been paying close attention to Hannah and I in science class, and we made the cut.

MOM: Made the cut? What does that mean?

LILY: I’m not exactly sure, but that’s okay, because the next thing she said was that Lucy would like us to join her for lunch today so that she can get to know us better.

MOM: Well, did you get to know her better?

LILY: Well, you see, the newbies sit near the end of the table, so I didn’t really get a chance to talk to her.

MOM: Now wait a minute, let me get this straight. Lucy invited you to sit by her at lunch so she could get to know you better, but it turns out you didn’t even talk to her. I’m not sure I have a good feeling about this one.

LILY: Mom, you’re reading too much into it. Everything is fine. As I move up the table, I’ll get to know Lucy more.

MOM: Lily, I just want you to be wise as you enter this so called new friendship. I don’t want to see you hurt.

(FX: Phone Ringing)

LILY: (answering her cell phone) Hi Hannah. Hold on one second. (puts hand over phone to talk to Mom) Mom, it's Hannah and I really need to talk to her, but don’t worry, I’ll be fine with my new friendship.

(Lily exits while talking excitedly to Hannah about what they are going to wear to school tomorrow.)

(Mom lays down on couch.)

MOM: Oh, this feels good. I think I’ll lie here and close my eyes for five minutes.

(Logan enters on a pogo stick.)

MOM: (sits up quickly) Logan, what are you doing with that in the living room?!

LOGAN: Oh, hi Mom. I didn’t see you there.

MOM: Logan, what are you doing? Both your dad and I have talked to you about bringing that thing into the house. Remember what happened last time? You almost broke your leg and my favorite glass vase.

LOGAN: Oh yeah, I forgot, Mom. I’ll take it back out into the garage when I take the trash out later. (leans pogo stick on chair and sits down in the chair)

MOM: How was your day at school today?

LOGAN: Well, let’s see, I went to my classes, ate my peanut butter and banana sandwich for lunch, and played some basketball in gym class. I’d say it was a pretty normal day. I guess it was okay for being a school day. I live for the weekends, you know?!

MOM: You do like your weekends!

(Dad enters.)

dAd: Did I hear somebody say weekend? I love weekends. Is it Saturday yet?

LOGAN: Dad, it’s only Tuesday.

dAd: Well at least Dove Dynasty is on tonight!

MOM: Hi, Dear. Did you have a good day at work today?

dAd: It was a pretty good day. I was able to mark off a lot of items that were on my to-do list.

(Lily enters.)

LILY: Oh, hi Dad. I didn’t know you were home. Mom, can I have an advance on my allowance? I need to run to the mall to get a new scarf before school tomorrow. I just found out that Lucy has declared tomorrow as “wear a scarf” day. If I want to be in the popular club, I’ve got to get one before tomorrow.

dAd: Wait. Who is Lucy? What’s this about being in a popular club, and what is it you’re going to the mall for?

MOM: Lucy is supposed to be one of the most popular girls at school. She even has her own lunch table, and you have to have an invitation to sit at it.

LOGAN: She IS the most popular girl at school. You have to be cool to be one of her friends. Are you really in her club? She must be getting pretty desperate if she lets someone like you in the club.

LILY: Very funny, Logan!

dAd: Lily, do you know anything about this Lucy girl? Is she someone that you should be hanging out with?

LILY: Dad, it's fine. I want to be Lucy’s friend. Can I get some money and go to the mall?

dAd: You do have your allowance coming to you, so I suppose if you want to spend your money on a new scarf, you can. Go get your money out of my wallet in my bedroom.

LILY: (gives Dad a hug) Thanks, Dad! You’re the best!

(Lily runs off stage.)

dAd: I’m not sure I like this popularity club thing. From my experience, things like that don’t always go so well.

Transit ion | 10:01-10:02

dIRECTOR: Cut, great job on Scene 1! Actors, we’ll meet you backstage in a few.

(Actors exit.)

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: Boss…GOODNESS gracious, did you hear what Logan’s favorite sandwich was? He likes peanut butter and banana sandwiches. That is pure GOODNESS right there! I can taste it now! Hey, Boss, would you mind if I went backstage and made me a sandwich? It will only take me a few minutes.

dIRECTOR: Why don’t we both head backstage and see if there’s anything we can do for the actors. (looks at the audience) We’ll see you guys right after Worship.

LILY: We better get to class. I’ll see you after third hour.

HANNAH: And it will be closer to lunch by then. (both squealing with excitement)

(Lily and Hannah exit.)

(SLIDE: 4 Hours Later)

(Lily and Hannah enter.)

LILY: Hannah, did you get a text from Lucy’s best friend? I got a text saying Lucy would like for me to come over to her house today after school. I am freaking out right now!

HANNAH: I didn’t get a text from anyone. When did she send it?

LILY: Right after lunch. Don’t worry about it, Hannah. I’m sure she just ran out of time and will text you later.

HANNAH: (sounding a little disappointed) I sure hope so.

LILY: I’ve got to get going. I need to pick Logan up from soccer practice. Text me later.

HANNAH: Yeah, I need to run too. Mom wanted me to stop by the store after school.

dIRECTOR: Cut! Great job! Time for a scene change, and then we are going to get right to the taping of Scene 3.

(Actors exit.)

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: GOODNESS, Boss! You sure have us hopping today. All hands on deck for a scene change!

(Change scene to living room.)

dIRECTOR: Well, it looks like we are ready. Places, everyone! Taping of Logan and Lily Scene 3 in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, ACTION!

(Lily is sitting on the couch deep in thought when her cell phone rings.)

(FX: Phone Ringing)

LILY: (answering her phone) Hello.

LUCY: Lily, it's Lucy. I just wanted to tell you I’m glad you were able to come over for a little while today. I was just calling to see if you thought any more about what we talked about.

LILY: Lucy, that’s all I’ve been able to think about. You see, Hannah has been my best friend since third grade, so I’m not sure how I am going to tell her that she didn’t make the cool cut. I know it will devastate her.

LUCY: You do want to be known for hanging with us popular kids, don’t you, Lily?

LILY: Of course I do! I’ve been waiting all school year for an invite to the popular table.

LUCY: Well, then you need to talk to Hannah. I can’t have her show up at the table tomorrow.

LILY: I guess I’ll talk to her. I’ll call her tonight.

LUCY: I do have one solution, if you would like to hear it.

LILY: Of course I want to hear it!

LUCY: Well, you are Mrs. Wigglesmith’s teacher helper, aren’t you?

LILY: Yes, I do help her during sixth hour. Why?

LUCY: We have a science test in her class on Friday. I have to get an A on the test or I won’t make the honor roll. If you can get me a copy of the test, I’ll let Hannah join us at the lunch table.

LILY: Lucy, I don’t know if I should do that. That wouldn’t be the right thing to do.

LUCY: Popular or not popular? Hannah or no Hannah? It’s up to you. Let me know what you decide. Tootles.

(FX: Dial Tone)

LILY: (shaking her head) Man, what am I going to do? This is a hard one. Part of me wants to be the popular girl so bad, but stealing a test wouldn’t be the right thing to do.

(Lily sits quietly thinking. Dad enters and sits on couch.)

dAd: Well hello, Sweet Pea. I’m surprised to see you home. I thought you had plans with your new friend Lucy tonight.

LILY: (sounding preoccupied) I did, but now I’m home.

dAd: Did you have fun?

LILY: Kinda...

dAd: Did Hannah get a hold of you? She called the house, and I told her you were at Lucy’s.

LILY: No and thanks.

dAd: Logan won a million dollars today!

LILY: That’s nice.

dAd: Okay, what’s up Lily? I just told you Logan won a million dollars, and you didn’t even get excited or tell me to stop acting that way.

LILY: Sorry, Dad, I just have a lot of thinking to do. I’ve got a tough decision to make before tomorrow morning.

dAd: Well, you know I’m here if you need me.

(Dad gets up and starts to walk off.)

LILY: Wait dad, can I talk to you about something?

dAd: Of course, that’s what dads are for.

(Dad walks over and sits on couch.)

dAd: What’s up, Pumpkin?

LILY: Have you ever had a tough choice to make?

dAd: Of course I have, many times.

LILY: How do you decide what‘s the best for you and the people involved? And what if it’s something you want really bad?

dAd: Lily, when I have a choice in life I always ask myself "WWJD?" What would Jesus do?

LILY: What if other people are involved?

dAd: If the decision involves more than just me, I always put myself in their shoes. How will that person feel if I make this decision?

LILY: Have you ever made a wrong choice?

dAd: Of course I have; we all do at one time or another.

LILY: What did you do?

dAd: Well, in the situation I’m thinking of, I had to go apologize to the person and tell them I was wrong.

LILY: I wish this decision were an easy one. This is one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make.

dAd: You want to tell me about it?

LILY: Well, it has to do with Hannah and Lucy. You see, Lucy doesn’t think Hannah is cool enough to sit at the popular table. So, I can either tell Hannah she can’t sit there, which of course will devastate her, or I can take a copy of Mrs. Wigglesmith’s science test to give to Lucy. Then, she will let Hannah sit at the table.

dAd: Whoa! You are in a tough spot, but I think the answer is pretty easy.

LILY: Easy? How can this be an easy answer?

dAd: I think you know the right answer. In fact, I think you can find the answer with one of the fruits of the Spirit.

LILY: What do you mean, Dad?

dAd: I think your answer is the fruit of goodness. Goodness is doing what God wants you to do. What do you think God wants you to do in this situation?

LILY: I know what God wants me to do. It would be wrong for me to take that test. Besides that, Hannah is my best friend, and I don’t want to see her hurt.

dAd: Now you’re talking, Lily.

LILY: If Hannah can’t sit at that table, then I don’t want to sit at the popular table either.

dAd: You and Hannah are both popular in my book.

LILY: (hugs Dad) Thanks, Dad! You’re the best! I think I have a few phone calls to make.

dAd: I’m proud of you for making the decision that God wants you to make. Way to show some goodness!

LILY: It sure feels good to make the right decision! I’ll let you know how the phone calls go.

(Lily exits as Logan enters.)

LOGAN: I thought I heard you talking about me?

dAd: Logan, why do you think we were talking about you?

LOGAN: I heard the word goodness and that describes me. I’m good to the ness!

dAd: You are definitely something else.

LOGAN: Thanks, Dad!

(Mom is backstage.)

MOM: (shouting) Logan Herbert Brooks, I need you in the kitchen right now! Why is there mud all over my floor?!

LOGAN: I gotta go, Dad! (yells) Coming, Mom!

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: Wow! That was full of GOODNESS! I really liked it.

dIRECTOR: --------, I’m glad you liked it.

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: I’m glad that Lily made the right decision. I’m glad she chose GOODNESS.

dIRECTOR: Speaking of goodness, let’s head back stage and tell the actors how good they were today while -------- comes out and shares the Word with our Studio audience.

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: That sounds like a GOOD plan!

(Director and Assistant Director exit.)

Sermon | 10:14-10:30 (VIDEO SUPPLEMENT AVAILABLE) Close Up: Fruit of the Spirit: The fruit tells if you’re sweet or rotten! Intro: This month, we will be discussing the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Just like fruit grows on a tree, fruit grows on us too. All of us have fruit, some is sweet and some is rotten. The fruit that the Holy Spirit brings our lives when Jesus comes into our hearts is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. As we chase after God and His will, this fruit will become more plentiful in our lives. Have the kids repeat the nine fruits of the Spirit (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control) This morning we are going to talk about GOODNESS. Final Cut: Goodness: Doing what God wants me to do! Pray Text: Romans 12:21b MSG Don’t let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good.

• Everyone in here knows what it means to be good, right? • Ask the kids how they would define “being good.” • “Being good” can be defined as doing what you have been told, without causing any

trouble. • I think all of us at some point have been bad or done something you weren’t suppose to

(i.e. stayed up late to watch a TV show when you were suppose to be in bed, snacked

during the day when your mom told you not to ruin dinner, not cleaning your room when your parents asked you to, etc.)

• Most of the time, if someone asks if you have been good, it means they want to know if you are doing what you are suppose to be doing, or are you doing what you have been asked to do.

• All of us know the difference between right and wrong. • The super cool thing about life is that we have the freedom to choose right from wrong. • This goes all the way back to when God created Adam and Eve. God put them in the

garden and told them they could eat the fruit from any tree, except the one in the middle of the garden. That tree was called the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. When the devil came along to tempt them to eat from that tree, they ended up giving in and eating from the tree God told them not to.

• For every choice that we have in this life, there is ALWAYS a consequence. • A “consequence” is the thing that happens after you make a choice. Consequences

can be good or bad. • For example, if you choose to stay up late to watch TV all night, the consequence will be

that you are tired the next morning. • If you choose to study hard for your test at school, the consequence will be that you will

get a good score on your test. • For everything in life, there is a choice and a consequence. • Adam and Eve made the choice to not do what God said, but to eat the fruit He told

them not to. The consequence of that was that sin entered the world. • God has given us the power to do the right thing and do good. • In the Bible, all over the place, it tells us to be good instead of bad. God doesn’t tell us to

be good unless He knows it's possible. • God is the definition of good. Every one of you that has the Holy Spirit living on the inside

is able to do good and do what God has told you to do. • When you are faced with a situation at school or at home, you can choose to be bad or

good. When you ask God for help to make the right choice, He will always lead you the way He wants you to go.

• The more times you make the right choice and be good, the juicier that goodness fruit will become.

• Every one of you has the fruit of goodness in your heart; we just have to ask God to help us be good, and do what He wants us to do!

Object Lesson: For this object lesson, you'll need a container, vinegar, and baking soda. Explain to the kids that the container represents you. The vinegar represents goodness and good choices. The baking soda represents bad choices. Start out with some baking soda in the container. Explain to the kids that we all make bad choices in life from time to time. It’s important that those bad choices don’t fill our entire lives though. The only way to make bad choices go away is to start making good choices and doing what God wants you to do. Explain that the vinegar represents good choices and when you start to show the fruit of the Spirit of Goodness, the bad choices will start to go away. Pour the vinegar into the container and the backing soda will react with it causing a bubbling up that will overflow outside the container. Talk about when you are around others and you are making the right choices, goodness will start to rub off and overflow onto your friends as well. When you start to make good choices, you begin to overflow in goodness. Confession: Father God, I thank you that you are good! Because you live on the inside of me, I have the fruit of goodness in my heart. Thank you for helping me make the right choices. In Jesus’ name.

dIRECTOR: ---------, you are definitely something else. I’m glad I get to work with you.

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: Aw, thanks, Boss! Why don’t you head backstage and enjoy a GOOD glass of lemonade. I’ll close up out here.

dIRECTOR: Sounds good! I’ll see you backstage in a few minutes.

ASSISTANT dIRECTOR: Who would like to play a GOOD game? Awesome, but first, let's do the Final Cut! Tech Team, throw it up!

Game | 10:30-10:40 For this game, we are going to be using a pedometer. With one or two students, attach the pedometer to a headband and place it on the student’s head. They have to shake their head to try to get the pedometer to 100 steps in a minute or just as fast as possible. Whoever gets 100 steps the quickest, wins.
