Harbor. It actually has two main sections: one for fresh seafood, another for dried
seafood. The name of the area comes from Jagal (small rocks) and ch'i (a pure
Korean word describing villages next to the seashore). Originally, the area had
many small rocks. In modern times, a wharf has been built and much of the area is
concrete and lined with buildings, so no trace of the namesake remains. Every year,
the Jagalchi Festival celebrates the area and its products

Haeundae Beach (해운대해수욕장) is probably the most famous beach in the country.
"Haeundae" was so named by scholar Choi Chi-Won (857~?) of the Silla Kingdom (BC 57~AD
935). When he was walking past Dongbaekdo Island, he was fascinated by it and left the
carved words "Hae Un Dae" on a stone wall on the island. Haeundae is 1.5 km long,
30~50m wide, and spans an area of 58,400㎡. The white sand is rough and sticks easily to
your skin. The sand of this beach is composed of sand that comes from Chuncheon Stream
and shells that have been naturally eroded by the wind over time. Haeundae Beach is also
famous for the various cultural events and festivals held throughout the year. At Haeundae
Beach there is a Folk Square where you can enjoy traditional games such as neoldduigi
(seesaw jumping), Korean wrestling, tuho(arrow throwing), tug-of-war and yutnori. There is
also the Beach Culture Center and the Beach Library. Numerous people visit every year

ROAD DETAILS PIC
1. Hagwi ~Aewol
Course
Take Ilju Road from Jeju City to Hallim, and turn towards the ASEA Broadcasting Station
in Hagwi-ri. There is seven-kilometer drive course showing a wonderful view of the black
lava shoreline, emerald beach and rare wild flowers. You can stop at the observation
platforms or cafes and relax in a picturesque setting. On days when the waves are high,
it is great to watch them crashing over the rocks.
2. Mt. Songaksan ~ Mt.
Sanbangsan Course
It is a wonderful drive course about 5.6 kilometers. If your car is smaller than a 12-passengervan then drive up Mt. Songaksan for some peaceful ocean scenery and fabulous views of
Hyeongjeseom Island and Mt. Sanbangsan. It is also worth going to Yongmeori (Dragon Head
Shore) and the Hamel Monument, both at the base of Mt. Sanbangsan. Hendrick Hamel was a
shipwrecked Dutch sailor who spent many years in Japan and Korea around the turn of the
17th century before returning home and writing Europe's first report about Korea
3. Sinsan-ri ~ Seongsan
Inchulbong (Sunrise
Peak) course
Along Road 12 from Pyoseon to Seongsan, is an SK fuel station. Pass it and take the coastal
road to Sinyang Beach, Seopjikoji, and Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak). Also enjoy
gathering shells and strolling around at a fishing spot along the shore in Jongdal-ri. Along the
coastal road you can see stone towers that look like they might be breakwaters, but actually
built by people who believe this effort will help grant their special wishes.
4. Sehwa ~ SeongsanInchulbong (Sunrise
Peak): recommended
A habitat of the munjuran (Crinum), Tokkiseom Islet is about 1.6 kilometers from Sehwa on the
way to Seongsan. You can walk to the islet at low tide, but don't linger too long or you might
get your trouser legs wet wading back to the mainland. Two kilometers up the road is the birdhabitat Hadori, quite well known; stepping across the stones to the islet here imparts a
marvelous feeling that will bring you back to do it again. Continuing along the curving road is
an observation platform in Jongdal-ri, made of an old ship from which you can see Udo Island
and the magnificent Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak).

Tower, one of the most representative tourist attractions in Seoul, loved by tourists and residents alike.

To get to the cable cars without having to walk too much, take the Namsan Oreumi, (Namsan outdoor

3:30 PM to 4:00 PM
Mt. Namsan is a symbolic mountain located at the center of Seoul. Although not as high as othersurrounding mountains, Mt. Namsan is a very popular nonetheless as a resting site. At the top, there are
various facilities such as Palgakjeong (octagonal hall), Seoul Tower, Maritime Aquarium, fountains, and
Namsan Library. You may take a cable car to the top or walk up the stairway path. Other than this path,
there are many other walkways to Namdaemun, Hoehyun-dong, Taegyero 3(sam)-ga, Jangchung Park,
Itaewon, Huam-dong and much more. The driving courses here are also popular for couples.
Walk at the Park
Namsan Park is a historical site. You will find Bonghwadae (beacon mound) at the top as it was once the
center of capital defense. During the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) the capital was changed to
Hanyang,(current Seoul) and to protect the city from invasions, castle walls were built on the 4 major
mountains like Mt. Bukaksan, Mt. Inwangsan, Mt. Naksan and Mt. Namsan. On Namsan peak, five beacons
were built to report the news from local governments to the central government with a five-signal system.
4:00PM - 5:30 PM
Also on the top of Mt. Namsan, there is the Palgakjeong Pavilion, which has a fantastic view. At Seoul Tower
(479.7m), you can view the whole landscape of Seoul and the West Sea beyond Incheon. The rotating
restaurant in the Seoul Tower also boasts excellent views. With excellent night view, you should try having
dinner at the tower. It would be a great experience to visit Namsangol Traditional Korean Village which is a
village of 5 traditional Korean houses.

into foods like gim (seaweed), gimchi, and ginseng, while the Chinese show interest in clothing and

Also referred to as Seolsan and Seolbongsan, the mountain was named Seorak
('Seol' meaning 'snow' and 'Ak' meaning 'big mountain') because the snow would
not melt for a long time keeping the rocks in a permanent state of white. In
November 1965, the Seorak Mountain district was designated as a Natural
