As a Catholic School we are a community, which celebrates our Catholic Story and traditions and recognise Christ is at the centre of our lives:

‘Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.” Matthew 5:1-12

Throughout the month of November we offer prayers to remember those who have passed

away and to thank God for their lives. We celebrate all the known and unknown saints and

martyrs of the Christian faith on All Saints Day, November 1st every year. This year All

Saints falls on this coming Sunday. We pray for all those who have died in Christ in the hope

of rising again on All Souls Day, November 2nd. By remembering in a special way we are

reminded of all who have lived as faithful Christians and who continue to encourage us in our

own faith. Death is not the end but a beginning of a new life because we share in the

resurrection of Jesus.

Our Parish is holding a special Memorial Mass on Tuesday, November 10th November at

7.00 p.m. in St. Michael’s Church. Please see information in this newsletter under News

from St. Michael’s Parish. Let us pray for those who have passed through death to new life.

Eternal God, source of life and salvation

we recall the great gift of all those

we have known and all those we haven’t,

who now share eternal life with you in heaven.

We give thanks for their lives.

We give thanks for their witness

to the Gospel in their own times,

and we give thanks for their contribution

towards shaping a better, more just society.

We pray that we will be faithful to your call

and persevere in our efforts

to continue the mission that has been passed on to us.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.

Congratulations to the parish children who received the Sacrament of First

Holy Communion last weekend. The ceremonies for the Sacrament of First

Holy Communion continue over the coming weekends. Please keep these

children and their families in your prayers as they celebrate this important

time in their initiation and faith development.

News from the Deputy Principal– Mr. Simon Greely

SFX VCAL Last Thursday we had another visit from the St. Francis Xavier Year 11 VCAL students.

They worked on skill development with our grade 1s and grade 3S as part of their course.

Our children enjoyed the small group interactions and the SFX children were grateful for

the opportunity to work in our school. The last session for this year will be on Thursday.

Swimming Unfortunately we were not able to organize our formal swimming lessons as part of our PE

this year. I have been assured by Cardinia Life that we will have our booking back for

December 2016. It will consist of 5 X 45 minute lessons on aquatic education and water

safety using the YMCA Swimming Lessons Program. Details of the cost will be forwarded in

term 1 and will go on your school fees notice.

Towards the end of term 4 in PE lessons I will have a focus

on water safety using up-to-date information from the Life

Saving Victoria website. This will be good information for

children to have leading into the holiday break.

Soccer Goals With the new A-League season having started there has been a

rush on soccer balls and space to play soccer. With this in mind we

have provided another set of soccer goals for children to use

(making it 3 sets altogether). Hopefully this will allow more

children to play if they choose to.

Creativity and design is continuing to take place throughout the school.

In the Senior Learning Community, advertising has been the main focus.

In 4/5, students designed logos as part of the product that they will soon sell at their

upcoming Market Day.

The 5/6’s have been very busy using technology to make commercials to advertise their

products for Market Day. Take a look at the Grade 5/6O Blog to see these terrific videos.

http://56obryan.global2.vic.edu.au/

How wonderful we are to have great technology at St. Brigid’s that students are able to use

to enhance their learning. Staff are currently looking at further technology to be purchased

for 2016.

Don’t forget to check out all of our Blogs to see the great learning happening throughout the

school....and don’t forget to leave a message!!

Have a great week everyone.

Interfaith Dialogue

Year 5/6 are currently studying a Religious Unit based on Discovering our Christian

Heritage. The aim of this unit is to understand and respect the role of diverse religious

traditions, particularly in the Australian context. Students are expected to explore the

common beliefs and understandings in Christianity, Judaism and Islam, describe some of the

rituals and symbols, customs and practices of our sister religions and help students recognise

the importance of interfaith work in the promotion of dialogue between people of different

traditions.

On Wednesday November 18, St. Brigid’s students in Years 5/6 will travel to Minaret Islamic College in Officer to participate in a pioneering program which opens the pathway for

Interfaith Dialogue. Yesterday, I met with the Leadership team of Minaret to build a

program where students come together based on respect and with an opportunity to engage

with each other’s differences and commonalities. All students at St. Brigid’s and Minaret are

potential leaders in our country in the future, which is why I believe this program is so

important.

It is anticipated that students learn from their peers about the basic fundamentals of Islam

including the 5 Pillars of Islam and that the main tenet of Islam is the absolute oneness of

God (Allah). Students might also explore some of the prayer customs and have their peers

explain some of the rituals in a Muslim's daily life.

In exchange, students from Minaret will learn about what it means to be a Catholic and will

inevitability have questions that they might ask. This would include that there is only One

God that Christians believe that Jesus was the Son of the Father and learn about what

Christians must do to inherit eternal life. It is anticipated that Minaret will visit our school

early next year so that they can witness how we bear witness to our Catholic Faith.

The Harmony Project is financially supporting this program and I wish to acknowledge my

colleagues from our sister school for being so open and for hosing our Year 5/6 students for

this important event. It is anticipated that this will become an ongoing relationship between

our schools so that all students at St. Brigid’s might have the opportunity to interact with

Minaret in the coming years. More information for parents will become available in coming

weeks.

need for greater emphasis on our own

relationships with each other. Every life

and every death has an impact on someone

else. We will be remembered as we have

lived.

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord,

and let perpetual light shine

upon them.

May the souls of the faithful departed,

through the mercy of God

rest in peace.

Amen.

Yours in friendship and unity,
