Knights of Columbus Resurrection Council 11116 Assembly 3280
Our Lady of Joy
Knights Newsletter January/February 2017
Council News
Grand Knight’s Message
Brother Knights of Council #11116 Hope all is well in your lives. 2017 is running at a rampant pace. We all want the Best for our Faith, and our Country this year. We need to ask ourselves, what can we do as Brothers of the Knights of Columbus to make a difference. My first answer is to lead with Love and Compassion. Know that everyone has issues in their lives. Be willing to take the time to listen, and not pass judgment. Help in a kind fashion to help our Brothers and Sisters identify answers to their problems. Our Council is on its' way to Star Council. Thanks to all of your positive actions. We as Knights are judged many ways, how we conduct ourselves at Church, and in public. We are considered Leaders in our Church. Our attitude about all issues is very important. As Brothers we need to see issues from the other person's point of view, remember be kind! I look forward to our March Business Meeting, we have New Brothers to invite to our Fraternal Brotherhood, I think you will really like them! God Bless!
Vivat Jesus, Randolph Moore Grand Knight

Resurrection Assembly News
Faithful Navigator’s Message Brother Sir Knights, It is the beginning of the Lenten season, a time that affords all of us an opportunity to take stock of our spiritual lives and make those adjustments that will serve us well in our journey of faith. I wish all Sir Knights and Brother Knights a prayerful and holy Lenten season. With the arrival of spring, the exemplification schedule for the Admission, Formation and Knighthood Degrees will become very active in anticipation of the Patriotic Degree Exemplification on June 11. Invitations to Knighthood Degree Brothers, inviting them to attain the highest level of the order, will be sent out in April. It is hoped that all Formation Degree Knights gain their Knighthood degree in preparation for the extraordinary Patriotic Degree exemplification ceremony in June. Take the time, to make the time, to be active in your Assembly. It actually requires very little effort to participate and contribute to the good works of charity, ministry and brotherhood. As Catholic men, we support each other in faith and friendship so reach out and attend a business meeting, attend the Car Corral, work in ministry in the parish and importantly, be thankful for the blessings of Knighthood. Vivat Jesus! SK Gerry Faithful Navigator Sir Knight Mike McDaniel Patriotic Degree Certificate FN SK Gerry Dale presents SK Michael McDaniel With his Patriotic Degree Certificate

From the Faith Committee Chairman – February 2017 The Catholic Men’s Conference was presented on Saturday, February 4th to a sold-out auditorium at Xavier College Preparatory. The Theme was year two (of three) of Bishop Olmsted’s Apostolic Exhortation “Into the Breach”. Year one was all about Catholic men immersed in accepting Jesus’ invitation of friendship “in Him, with Him, and through Him”. Knowing about Jesus isn’t enough. Knowing Jesus personally is more paramount then what we, as men, did and do to know our wives. The Theme in Year one was; “A New Apostolic Moment - The ‘New Evangelization’”, also known as discipleship. As disciples, we are called to introduce others to Jesus Christ through our good actions and our witness of God in our daily lives. The Second-Year Theme is; “A Field Hospital and A Battle College”. All of us are sinners and in-need of spiritual healing…… the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist defined the “Field Hospital” as in spiritual. Prayer, Scripture reading, and, at least one hour of time spent in the OLOJ Adoration Chapel are basic to Theme’s one and two. The “Battle College”? Bishop Olmsted says; “The Church is, and has always been, a school that prepares us for spiritual battle, where Christians are called to ‘fight the good fight of faith’ (1 Timothy 6), to ‘put on the armor of God’, and ‘to be able to stand firm against the tactics of the devil’ (Ephesians 6:11)”. OLOJ is currently conducting several ‘college level’ classes as well as a more fundamental class to grow our knowledge of and in Jesus and His Church. Bishop Olmsted adds; “With this letter, then, my sons and brothers, I urge you to heed Jesus’ call and to let Him from your mind and heart with the light of the Gospel ‘for the purpose of being sent’. That is why this letter is an Apostolic Exhortation. I am hereby exhorting you to step ‘into the breach’ – to do the work of Christ’s soldiers in the world today. “These Men they call Knights” (KC Booklet 937 7/11) is a little booklet given to me when I went for the 2nd and 3rd Degrees and it states on page -2- : “A Knight accepts the teaching authority of the Catholic Church on matters of
11
faith and morals and aspires to live in accord with the precepts of the Catholic Church – that is – he is a practical Catholic. As Knights, we support our parishes, serving as “the strong right arm” of our priests and bishops, standing in solidarity with them and providing them with whatever spiritual and temporal support they need”. This statement more than implies we are called to support Father Jess’ initiatives to strengthen the OLOJ Family, the Domestic Church per Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson, and Bishop Olmsted’s “Into the Breach”. Do not sit on the sidelines! Be that “strong right arm” of Father Jess implementing and promoting his initiatives! Vivat Jesus! SK Cliff McGraw, Chairman, Faith Committee
From the Communication Committee Chairman We continue to look for opportunities to enhance and improve our communications efforts for the Sir Knights in the Parish and the community. Please be sure to wear your Patriotic Degree Badges to all Parish, and Assembly functions! This will provide you an opportunity to engage with and answer questions for potential future Knights. Please call me at 480-302-0695 and/or email me at [email protected] if you would have any ideas on how to enhance our communications endeavors in the community. REPETITION, REPETITION, REPETITION So I'm repeating this again, let's get our membership drives going before we run out of time this Fraternal Year! We are just past the midpoint of our Fraternal Year, in reviewing our growth and achievements, we still have work to do to achieve Star Council. Some councils are off to a great start while others have some catching up to do. The good news is there is still time! Let's get together soon for Membership Drives, Fraternal Benefits Nights, or whatever ideas you have to meet our council goals. I'm here to help your councils succeed and to protect all that Venerable Fr. McGivney envisioned for our great Order. Keep up the good work!
Ask Eligible Men to Join
Today, I want to address the growth of the Order. Membership growth is the fuel that keeps this great fraternal engine running. All of our charitable works at the council, state, national and international level are thanks to our hard-working members. And more members equals more charity.
We know that the membership blitz is a tried and true way for councils to get more men to join. We see these pushes often in March, in celebration of Founder’s Day, and again in October. These drives are successful because brother Knights have increased visibility speaking or presenting during and after Masses and at special events. We must remember that we have a duty to ask each and every Catholic gentleman to join our ranks for the good of the Church, the community and the Order.
During the rest of the year, we often “forget” to ask men to join and to bring their families into the Knights of Columbus family. You probably know an eligible Catholic man you could ask today. What if the only reason he hasn’t joined is because no one has asked him yet?
When telling a prospect about the strengths of the Order, don’t forget our greatest fraternal benefit: our insurance program. This is often a “selling point” to a potential member who is on the fence. Many members become Knights simply to be able to buy coverage to protect their family. Soon after, they realize the good our charitable works do for their community, and they are proud to be members.

As your professional Knights of Columbus insurance agent, I look forward to helping us grow in fraternity in any way that I can.
God Bless, Mr. Wes Casaus PGK, PFN, FDD Field Agent (623) 640-0436 [email protected] My Field Agent Site Member of KofC since 2005

Degree Information The Degrees of the Knights of Columbus
Admission Degree
Formation Degree
Knighthood Degree
Patriotic Degree
The Patriotic Degree is the most visible arm of the Knights of Columbus and represents the last principal of the order: Patriotism. This includes promoting responsible citizenship and love and loyalty to their country. Members of the Patriotic Degree are asked to participate to join in the Honor Guard, which serves at patriotic and civic functions. All Knighthood Degree members are highly encouraged to further their advancement in to the order by becoming a Patriotic Degree member. Members who wear the emblem of the degree are committed to conduct themselves honorably as Catholic gentlemen in both their private and public life as well as patriotically for the good of the country. The Patriotic Degree sword represents their reverence for the Eucharist and the Pope, Bishops, and hierarchy of the church, and displays publicly their willingness to protect the Church and Priests.
