Method of OperationBy means of a feeding system, consisting of avibratory feed trough and a magnetic drum, thechips are transported into the flaking chamberthrough the gravity separator “Cleanomat” anda distribution system.The rotating turbo impeller accelerates the chipsand pushes them against the interior of the knifering where they are flaked by the knives installedtherein. The desired flake thickness is for themost part determined by the knife projection.The flakes are transported through a definedgap between knife and wear shoe and aredischarged vertically to below out of the machine.
The well-proven counter-rotating principleThe knife ring is chain-driven by a gear motorcounter-rotating to the impeller. This provencounter-rotating operating principle ofPALLMANN flakers assures uniform use of allknives and reliable discharge of the flakes.Theresult is a high cutting performance, constantflake quality and uniform wear.Furthermore, the counter-rotating principle ofthe knife ring ensures proper flake dischargeeven at extremely high moisture contents, i.e.no clogging of the flake channels and no materialaccumulation on the outside of the knife ring.

Constant flake quality - specifically set
Knife SettingThe knife packages, consisting of knife holdingplates and knives are, as a standard, set outsidethe machine in a setting device to the preciselydesired knife projection.When using a sharpening- and setting robot,type PZSE, the setting of the knives is performedfully automatically.
Setting of the beater platesThe simple and precise setting of the impellerbeater plates in the machines by means of afixture permanently ensures good flake quality.

Fighting wearEasily exchangeable, respectively re-grindablewear parts protect the interior of the knife ringand the turbo impeller. Good flake quality canalso be achieved in such a way over longerperiods of time.

Optimum capacityKnife ring flakers should always be fed by meansof a vibratory feeding trough in order to achievecontinuous material feeding and optimumutilization of the installed electric force. Ourintegrated feeding system represents the idealsolution and consists of:- Vibratory feeder with coarse- and fines
discharge- Transition cover with integrated magnetic
drum separator for separation of ferrous contaminants
- Heavy gravity sifter “Cleanomat” for separation of stones and NE-metals etc.
The air produced by the knife ring flaker shouldbe dissipated by means of an exhaust systemwith integrated dust filter.
