Westok are the inventors and

world-wide patent holders of

cellular beams and USFB (Ultra

Shallow Floor Beams).

Westok first started manufacturing

cellular beams in the mid 1980s

and as a member of the British

Constructional Steelwork

Association (B.C.S.A.) and The

Steel Construction Institute

(S.C.I.), provides its clients with

high quality workmanship, unique

products and fast, knowledgeable

and friendly customer service. In

conjunction with the SCI, Kloeckner

Westok continues to develop

the company’s own structural

engineering design software,

to both the British codes and

Eurocodes.

Kloeckner Westok predominately

sell cellular beams, USFB and

plate girders into the construction

market. The projects vary from

multi storey office blocks, where

the benefits of clear column free

spans are well recognised by

architects and developers, schools,

retail projects, stadia for the long

span cantilever sections and car

parks which benefit from cellular

beams due to the economy of long

spans and the large web openings

TECHNICAL INFORMATION Westok engage in a process of continuous improvement. We sponsor research activity to collect relevant technical information on the performance of our products.

OFFICE BASED DESIGN SERVICEInstant technical advice and full designs from Westok’s Technical Department.

REGIONAL ADVISORY ENGINEERSAdvisory Engineers can attend project design meetings to help optimise the design of a specific project, and to help engineers gain a familiarity and expertise in cellular beam design.

TECHNICAL SEMINARSIn house technical seminars can be arranged to promote the efficient design of cellular beams, and proficiency with the associated software, CELLBEAM.

Westok offer their CELLBEAM software freely for use by individual applicants.

All cellular beam designs are carried out using the analysis program, CELLBEAM, written by The Steel Construction Institute. The results are based on full scale destructive testing:

Software Details

Design can be carried out to both BS5950 and Eurocodes.

200MHz CPU running a video card with a minimum display resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, 256 colours or better.

height, by allowing the services to run

within the web penetrations rather than

Westok beams are very frequently employed in single storey schemes, large-scale supermarket projects and modern retail/leisure developments. The 15-18m span frequently adopted for the retail sector is an ideal application for the Westok cellular beam, particularly in ‘Stores on Stilts’ projects.

construction and also cellular columns.

Westok cellular beams and columns are

frequently employed where the steelwork

is exposed and the architect seeks a

modern ‘look’.

bridges, rail gantries, pipe bridges.

These applications tend to be relatively

long span but lightly loaded. The expanded

Westok cellular beam has increased inertia

properties without any gain in weight, and

The Construction Products Regulation (CPR) places new legal obligations on manufacturers, distributors and importers of construction products within the EU. Coordinators (RWC) to IS 14731, we are pleased to have achieved CE Marking certification. The audit was carried out by the Steel Construction Certification Scheme (SCCS). Fabrication work is carried out to the BCSA National Structural Steelwork Specification 5th Edition (CE Marking), or to more stringent project-specific requirements where required.

Profiling,Cambering, Manufacture and Fabrication of Westok cellular and plated beams takes place in a modern 9,000 m2 facility in Stourton, south Leeds, conveniently located off the M621 in very close proximity to both the M1 and M18. Fabrication work is supported by twenty-one linked overhead cranes. The maximum lift capacity in the works is 20t, and this facilitates the movement and fabrication of very heavy plate and box girder sections.

environment with a complex circular and rectangular

Requirement

900 deep cellular beams with precast concrete floors on

a 15m x 7.5m grid.

Birmingham Council Offices, Woodcock Street.

Project

Architectural requirement for cellular beams to create

sufficient air flow within the building. Alternate circular/

elongated cell pattern provided to assist with the

ventilation strategy of the building.
