51st European ConventionMay 24th to May 27th, 2018 in Baveno

Dear Kiwanian Friends,

It is a privilege and a pleasure for me to invite all of you to the 51st KI-EF Convention in Baveno, Italy, on the shores of Lake Maggiore.

In that charming lakeside town, full of history and natural beauty, Kiwanis members will come from all over Europe, but also unexpectedly from other parts of the world, to spend a few days in serenity and joy and, at the same time, deal with several institutional obliga-tions: elect the new Vice President, confirm the 2018/19 European Board and elect the new Trustee to the International Board that, for the next three years, will occupy the seat that has been occupied with rare skill and exceptional spirit of service by Marcel Kreienbühl who all European Kiwanians and I personally and affectionately thank him.

The opportunity will also allow us to talk about the future and the new legal entity - Ki-wanis International Europe - that is at heart to all of us, taking stock of the situation and illustrating the next steps.

We will also have the opportunity to talk about the new European Common Service - Happy Child - which now, involves almost all the districts and we will do it together with Mohamed al Jounde, who was awarded in 2017 the Children‘s Peace prize by the Interna-tional Foundation for Human Rights The Kids Rights Foundation, and who will have a special part during the inaugural ceremony and will answer our questions in the workshop on Friday.

Also on Friday we can participate in other interesting workshops - Happy Child, K.I.E. etc.

From the artistic point of view, there will be a concert by the Fanfara dei Carabinieri, the performance of a young, but already well known, soprano, and a children‘s choir. I do not tell you anything else to avoid spoiling the surprises.

All in Baveno, then, where in joy and friendship, in front of breath-taking views and good food and good wine, we will write together another historic page of our European Federati-on always under the banner of service for less fortunate children.

And we will all do it together because Together we can!

Auditors´Report

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE BOARD KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL-EUROPEAN FEDERATION AUDITORS’ REPORT ON THE 2016/2017 FINANCIAL STATEMENTS

We have been appointed as auditors of Kiwanis International-European Federation (KI-EF) by the European Convention held in Paris (France) on Saturday, 15th July 2017.

In accordance with the terms of our appointment, we have audited the accompanying financial statements of Kiwanis International-European Federation as and for the year ended September 30, 2017 which show a balance sheet total of € 302.011 with the annual result from “Operations” in the amount of € 16.740, from “Contractual Programs” in the amount of € 17.520 including the release of reserves of € 29.000 and from “Conventions” in the amount of minus € 2.164 including the rele-ase of reserves of € 50.000, therefore a total amount of € 32.097 including the release of reserves of € 79.000.

These financial statements are the responsibility of the members of the Board KI-EF. Our responsi-bility is to express an opinion on these financial statements based on our audit activities.

We conducted our audit in accordance with generally accepted standards. Those standards requi-re that we plan and perform the audit to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free of material misstatement. An audit includes examining, on a test basis, eviden-ce supporting the amounts and disclosures in the financial statements. It also includes assessing the accounting principles used, and significant estimates made, as well as evaluating the overall financial statements presentation.

We have obtained from the Treasurer the explanations and information necessary for performing our audit.

We believe that the audit evidence we obtained is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion.

In our opinion, the financial statements give a true and fair view of the financial position of Kiwa-nis International-European Federation as of September 30, 2017 and of its results for the year then ended, in accordance with the generally accepted accounting standards and the requirements of Kiwanis International-European Federation bylaws.

Personal motivationWith over 25 years of dedicated Kiwanis service at different levels of our organization, I declare myself willing to serve as KI-EF President. My Kiwanis jour-ney has been extremely gratifying, full of learning ex-periences, valuable networking and personal growth. Wishing to give more, I am eager to explore yet another path. With your help and support, I believe I have the experiences, the passion, the enthusiasm, and the “servant leader” mentality to lead the Federation forward. As transition elaborations continue, it is in our hands to forge a new future for Europe. We should embrace this change and play an active part in this resurgence.• We need to support the Kiwanis I-Plan and adopt it

within the Federation• We need to tread carefully but decisively toward a

new KIE• We need to stop membership bleeding• We need to apply financial accountability and

operational transparency at every level of the Fede-ration

• We need to constantly scrutinize and evaluate Federation programs

• We must face all our issues and challenges based on the European philosophy of close cooperation, cross-cultural/linguistic and national respect and a bonding historical cohesion.

The winds of change are blowing and I need windmills not walls!

Personal motivation

Deployment of modern equipment is a conditio sine qua non. Use by encouraging members is just as important. A professional PR policy can help substantially here.• More women included in our clubs and in

control, at all level of Kiwanis• Young Professionals: the development of our

YP organization gets all the attention, as well the contacts with JCI.

There is increasing interest among young people in Kiwanis and we must make use of that interest to lay a broad foundation for the continuity and growth of the districts. May I remind you that when I was governor, I char-tered the club “Young Professional Belgium-Luxembourg” and the club “Young Professi-onals Juventus Brugge”, and so the 120 junior members of our district became full members of Kiwanis. They, and all young people can count on my support.

Personal motivation

I would be extremely pleased to assume the role of Vice President and am confident and motivated that together we could bring about changes in Europe during my potential term. My role as the Governor of the largest KI-EF district has taught me a lot and I have realised that one can achieve much with lots of passion, motivation and a happy disposition. With this positive attitude, I would like to make my own personal contribution, as only when you feel good yourself, you are more likely to show a willingness to show commitment according to Kiwanis‘ motto “serving the children”.

Elio Garozzo

Catania, ItalyKiwanis Club Catania EstItaly-San Marino District

Biography: Born 1961, married to Jitka 2014. Two sons, Agatino and Eduardo

Law degree from Giustino Fortunato University.

Alternative dispute resolution expert, accre-dited by the Italian Ministry of Justice. Enjoys sailing and tennis. Passionate about the Middle Ages and medieval law.

Member of Kiwanis Junior Club Catania Centro since 1982, past Italy-San Marino District Governor.

Whydidyoudecidetorunforoffice?

To bring my long experience and my enthusi-asm in “serving the children” to the office of trustee on the Kiwanis International Board.

WhatqualifiesyoutobecomeanofficerofKiwanisInternational?

I know how Kiwanis works because of my long experience in the Kiwanis Family since 1982, occupying many positions in and outside of Italy. My Kiwanian life shows my aptitude for improving the Kiwanis impact, especially in achieving concrete results while serving children and my community, and promoting club growth.

Henk Oostdam

Boskoop, the NetherlandsKiwanis Club of Rijn en GouweThe Netherlands District

Biography:Henk (born1965) joined Kiwanis in 2005 and became almost immediately involved in leader-ship positions. After being club president, Henk served years as district chair for youth growth, developed various strategies to rejuvenate clubs and served in several KI-EF committees. As governor, Henk served on the Kiwanis International-European Federation Executive Board.

Whydidyoudecidetorunforoffice? The world is changing. Kiwanis needs to adapt, find ways to do its work closer to regions and clubs. Culture defines who we are and how we act towards younger generations who volun-teer in the context of projects while not being club members. I would love to take on that challenge at the Kiwanis board level.

WhatqualifiesyoutobecomeanofficerofKiwanisInternational?

In addition to my job as a tax advisor, I am also a government lobbyist. I know how (proposed) rules influence what we do. As a servant leader in various volunteer organizations, I have 30 years of experience in sharing this knowledge and developing and implementing strategies for those organizations.

HowwillyouleaveyourmarkonKiwanis?

Rejuvenation of Kiwanis is of the essence and I will continue to strive towards that. While working together with our regional leadership, I’ll strive for Kiwanis to accommodate regional differences for a more effective organization as a whole.
