Every year, half of our board is elected, or reelected, to run the Club for the following year. This year, the positions up for election are 1st VP, Treasurer, and three Directors: Maintenance, Bar, and Kitchen. Some of our board will elect to stay, while other positions will need to be filled. Francine Bailey and Marlayna MacKenzie have agreed to co-chair the nominating committee. I urge you to consider becoming part of the board and helping us make the decisions that determine how our Club functions. All members are invited to attend board meetings. The first meeting will be Friday, November 9, at 9:00 at the Club. Our staff has worked over the summer to make improvements in our Club, so please take a look around when you come in and appreciate the improvements. Also, Rebecca and Ricardo have been working on their English this summer and are anxious to have more practice by speaking to Club members. So, take a moment, speak slowly, and have a conversation with them. Let's make this a great season by working together and appreciating the good things. My local phone number is 242-1141, and my email address is [email protected].

RESCUE ONE Continued from page 1

During this past summer, the Rescue One Radio Repeater, which provides us our full transmitting power, failed. Betty contacted Ray Lawrence at Islandia who removed and reinstalled our older backup unit to keep us fully on the air. The failed unit has been returned to the Tucson supplier by Carl Overcast, who procured this unit originally. It is being repaired and will be back in service soon. Thanks to Ray and Carl for this very important and timely assistance. As you venture out by land or sea, please always check out and back in with “Rescue One”. We can only help you if we know who, how many, your destination and your return time. Always use (VHF Ch 24) for all emergency services. Our Club medical “First Responders” are trained and equipped to assist. If you have questions or wish to volunteer your expertise, please call Betty or myself. We can use help in many areas of service. May your boats run flawlessly, and this year’s fishing bring you grins. Thanks, and Stay Safe.

—Tom Vala “Turbo” 1st V.P./Rescue One

Indoor Activities Over the summer, at Cathie Nall's

suggestion, we alphabetized the DVDs. Of course, we left off THE at the beginning of all titles, and they're not in strict alpha order. You should be able to find the title you're looking for more easily. A REMINDER....the library does NOT accept magazines or VCR tapes or moldy books. We have limited capacity and few ways to dispose of them. Thanks for your continued support! —Sandie Burnam, Librarian

¡Hola otra vez mis amigos! Who knew we would be ready to go for another year so soon. Time flies – enjoy every minute of it. And to help you enjoy it, we have a plethora of outdoor activities for your pleasure. Drop in pickleball has started on Wednesday October 2. Dr. Dale and Bill heated up the court and are ready for any comers next Wednesday. There will be drop in pickleball every Wednesday weather permitting (at 9:00 a.m. for the time being but as the season advances, this will change). When there is more demand we will add another day (or — DRUM ROLL …….. — two). The only exception will be when there are other events in progress – such as bean bag. Putt Putt begins Monday November 5 and Ladies Bocce begins Tuesday November 6. The first Goathead of the season is scheduled for November 15. Get your balls shined up and your sticks cleaned because it promises to be a great season. Sergio (the hurricane) made some minor adjustments to the course and you can no longer rely on that soft spot that was there last year so get out there and find the hard ones (spots that is). And then the climax of November will be the Bean Bag Tournament on November 28, 29 and 30. I am sure Richard will have some surprises in store for all you beaners. And finally – I know you are all concerned about the dwindling supply of T shirts. Well never fear – Betty to the rescue. More have been ordered so you can replenish your stock and fill all your Christmas stockings with a truly unique gift that can only be found at (Continued on page 5)

Welcome back to a new season. We're even having a welcome back

“Grill Your Own” dinner on November 3. This is being organized by your board members to say Welcome Home! We have lots of great meals planned, some new, some happily repeated favorites. We are still in need of three organizers for breakfasts. We are always looking for new volunteers (or seasoned volunteers) and new menus are welcome too. Come give it a try. We have great backup staff for our chefs so don't be intimidated by the task. It's a great way to meet new people and also spend time with your friends. Empty breakfast dates are December 9, January 6, and March 31. Please contact Sandie Burnam, Pat Friesen, or me if you are interested or just have questions. We're here to help. The meals sponsorship program is an important part of keeping our Club running. It is also a great opportunity for you to participate if you feel you are unable to organize or work in the kitchen. Remember, this Club runs on volunteers. We need two sponsors for Dinner on December 1. Carl and I will be cooking chicken fried steak, a real comfort food dinner, including a favorite dessert of fried ice cream. We also need sponsors for breakfasts on November 11, January 6, and March 3. Please contact Sandie Burnam if you would like to sponsor a meal. Pat, Sandie, and I look forward to seeing you and are diligently working to provide you with a season full of great meals. Kino Bay has some of the world's best cooks! —Terri Overcast, Kitchen Director

Kitchen OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES (Continued from page 4) Club Deportivo in Kino. There is no doubt that – just like the old masters – the value of these shirts will increase and in 100 or 200 years, you could retire on the proceeds from selling only a few thousand Club Deportivo T-shirts. Be still my beating heart – there is even more fantastic news – this year we will be adding an original Club Deportivo baseball cap to our repertoire. What could be more fashionable than showing up at your next formal with a Club Deportivo T-shirt and baseball cap. I can hardly wait. See you at the games!!! – Bill Chisholm, Outside Director Dude (ODD)

Maintenance & ConstructionHey, all. Welcome back to a new season. Well, the inside of the Club has been painted and is looking great. There is still some work to be completed to doll it up yet some more. The LED light and fixture replacement will wrap up soon, finally. I have purchased a set of Horseshoes, and if we have enough interested in playing, I’ll work with Bill Chisholm on setting up, hopefully, two playing locations in the storage yard. The south entrance is getting a facelift, new paint, welcome sign, and new overhead light. The clothes collection box will be replaced with a decorative deck box. (Continued on page 7)

Fisherfolk, We have only about a week and half of fishing reports, so I will combine October’s report with November’s and publish it in the newsletter next month. If you would like for your activity to be included in the monthly report, please send your information and any photos to my email address: [email protected]. Thanks, and good fishing to you! — Matt Curtis, Fishery Biologist

FROM THE FRONT OFFICE Welcome Back! It’s great to be starting another fun-filled season here at Club Deportivo. The club is now open for our 2018-2019 season, it is great to see familiar faces come in. The Board of Directors has been busy over the summer months compiling new ideas and thinking about new events to add to our activities calendar for this new season. We hope you will enjoy the season’s offerings and participate in as many as you are able. We are always interested in new ideas and thoughts on how we can make your membership experience better. Feel free to stop by and let me know how we can help. Remember our office hours are 8:00 am to 12:00 noon, and 2:00 to 5:00 pm, Monday through Saturday. Please stop by to pick up your 2018 Membership Directories, they are a great way to stay in touch with your friends. If your contact information changed over the summer, please pick up a Member Update form and bring it with you when you come in to pay your dues. Directories are available and located in the Radio Room along with other Club items we have for sale. I would like to personally thank each of you who have come in and paid your dues early this year. Your dues help us provide our services for you and your guests. I am very excited to announce that you will see new faces this season as we have several new members who joined our club over the summer months. Thank you for referring friends and family members. Lastly, Rebecca, Ricardo and I worked with you in mind over the summer, we hope this season is the most enjoyable yet and look forward to sharing another amazing season with you and your families. Here’s to a great 2018-2019 season! — Betty Martinez, Club Manager

MAINTENANCE & CONSTRUCTION (Continued from page 6) I made a five-drawer storage cabinet for aluminum foil, shrink wrap, to-go boxes, and whatever else is under one of the prep tables in the kitchen. It will be here in February. That’s the good news. Then there was the major roof leak in the kitchen during the storm! After investigation, we decided to completely remove the current sealing material and repair the roof. My feeling is that it will be an expensive process. —John Nicola, Director, Maintenance & Construction
