Just a Note of GratitudeKing’s Manor is built upon community support. Words can-

not express how grateful we are for your support. Your memori-als, honorariums and donations make a significant impact on the quality of care we are able to provide. Your volunteerism further enhances the quality of life in our organization. our residents are limited in their ability to go out into the community. When you as individuals and groups come here, you are bringing the com-munity to them and making them feel that they are still a part of society. We all need to feel that we belong, and that we are im-portant, whether we are 8 years old or 80. Thank you for loving King’s Manor and the wonderful people who live here.

Father’s Day

Gary Shelton opens his pizza only to find a handmade tie

The dads in assisted and re-tirement Living enjoyed a father’s day treat. Brenda Blacksher, Man-or activity director with the inge-nious help of her partners in craft, erma Barnhill and Teresa Paetzold, made oversized father’s day Ties decorated with their name and in-dividual designs for our men. They thought they were getting individu-al pan sized pizzas tied up in ribbon and were delighted to find instead, neck ties. We hope all of our dads had a wonderful weekend!

Angels Among Us

It is the little things that happen in our day that can make it good or bad. usually, nothing monumen-tal happens either direction. Big checks in the mail, new babies, and vacations are few and far between. serious issues, though it may seem like they come more often, are not a daily event. But little annoying things happen on a fairly regular basis, as do little wonderful things. Laughing with a friend, enjoying a gentle breeze (a rarity in the Pan-handle), having someone leave a fountain drink on your desk, get-ting a compliment; these are the types of things that can make your day, a good day.

Two Westgate housekeepers, Maggie Goff and deedra Cor-tez took control of the immediate destiny of the residents in the 500 hall. Maggie finished cleaning her retirement houses for the day and instead of heading to the break room, she came in to help deedra with her hall. Becky Williams was working her way down the 500 hall, when the sound of laughter came tumbling out of a room. of course she popped in to witness the fun; only to find Maggie with a curling iron in hand, doing a residents hair, while deedra was cleaning. By the end of the day the hall was shining and the residents were beaming.

every single person has the power to brighten someone else’s day in some small (or perhaps, big) way. These two lovely employees acted on the opportunity presented. I would bet each of those residents if asked that evening would have told you “Today was a good day.”

adella Mathers was a resident here at King’s Manor for over 12 years. she was a person who enjoyed being outside and loved plants and flowers. Billie Jo Gee thought that her mother would be pleased to see the gifts given in her memory being used to beautify the Westgate entrance. as that area has been rather bare, the addition of two beautiful pots planted with Chaste Tree’s or “Butterfly” bushes are a most welcome addition to the area. Last year we re-poured the concrete in the entrance and added a patio set for residents to enjoy and we hope to continue to create a pleasant atmo-sphere in that area. Thank you to Warren and Billie Jo Gee for your support of the project!
