For your reflection…

Don’t Look Back

Another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”

(Luke 9:61-62)

When have you faltered or looked back during your journey of faith?

What can you do to be a stronger follower of

Jesus this week?

YEAR OF MERCY ~The Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy ~

This article is a continuing series on the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy. For the next several weeks we will highlight one or two Works of Mercy, and also suggestions and words of advice for living them out in our daily lives.

BEARING WRONGS PATIENTLY

Do not be bitter about wrongs done against you. Place your hope in God so that you can endure the troubles of this

world and face them with a compassionate spirit. This work was introduced to many of us while growing up using

the phrase “offer it up.” Justice is important, but so often today, seeking justice turns into unjustified anger or

violence. The key word is Patiently. To work for a better situation, while patiently accepting (bearing) the difficulty

we may currently be in is not always easy – but then again, neither was the Cross.

Frustrated with someone? Step away from the situation, take a few deep breaths, pray the Our Father, asking God for patience.

*On Monday, July 4, Mass will be at 9:00 a.m. instead of the usual 7:00 a.m. Please make note of this change.

PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS If you have offered a Mass for someone, and would like to present the bread and wine used at

the Mass, please see the ushers before Mass, and they would be happy to assist you.

A MASS IN REMEMBRANCE OF VICTIMS OF VIOLENT OR TRAGIC DEATH is being offered by the Diocese of Scranton. This Mass is offered for the families and friends of those who have died in tragedy, especially through murder, suicide and accident. The Mass is scheduled for Thursday, July 14, at 7:00 p.m. in St. Peter’s Cathedral in Scranton. All persons who have lost a loved one through tragic and traumatic death are invited to this liturgy. We ask that the names of deceased loved ones are registered on registration forms which are available in the parish office or accessed on the Service and Social Concerns webpage on the Diocese of Scranton’s website, www.dioceseofscranton.org. Questions concerning this Mass may be directed to the Office for Parish Life at 570-207-2213.

FINANCES AND ONGOING STEWARDSHIP ~ THANK YOU!

FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS for the weekend of June 18-19, 2016 $4,190.25 Sunday Offertory; $211.00 Loose; $2,232.00 Secondary Envelopes; $325.00 Cemetery

PARISH CAMPAIGN - EXTERIOR PROJECT--We thank those who have made a pledge to the project to replace the roof and repair the front façade etc. We have now reached 34.8% of our goal, with 15.4% of Households pledging, but we have a long way to go. Consider making a pledge - Today. A commitment of $2.50 a week would add up to a Pledge of $260.00 paid over two years. Little gifts add up.

Picnic News and Notes

CABBAGE FOR HALUSKI will be SAUTÉED on Tuesday, June 28, beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Sacred Heart Hall.

CALLING ALL BAKERS!

We need your help in making the Bake Sale a success at the Summer Picnic. As many of you know, we sell out each night due to the fabulous goodies that are prepared with LOVE of the Parish. If you could bake for all three days or just one, it would be appreciated. If you need me to pick up the baked goods, have questions or want to work the stand, please call Rose Rava at 570-457-4346.

BEAUTIFUL BASKETS Please call Carol Shultz at 570-883-9814 to discuss a basket or to arrange pick-up or drop-off of your basket.

STAND ITEMS Please call Denise Decker at the rectory for information on new donated items that are needed to fill up the stands, variety items, toys, etc. We still need prizes – look for sales!!!

FLEA MARKET ITEMS to be accepted on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9:00am – 5:00pm, at the FRONT ENTRANCE OF SACRED HEART. Please call the rectory with particular questions or concerns – PLEASE, NO computers, electronics equipment, stuffed animals, clothing or shoes!!!

VOLUNTEERS Our picnic is a success because of the many volunteers who show up to help, but more workers are always needed in all areas of the picnic, especially in food preparations, grounds set up, working the stands and grounds clean-up after the picnic—your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Many have called, to offer their help, but more is needed. Without your help, this picnic and our Parish cannot continue to be a success!! Please see David Tighe for information on volunteering needs, especially for questions concerning youth service hours for Confirmation, high school, and college requirements.
