Interviews with Britain's Next Top Model Series 6 Girls

Winner of Britain's Next Top Model Series 6

Tiffany

"My style icon is model Carmen Kass (j'adore dior

model) because she is elegant yet edgy"

How has winning Britain's Next Top Model

changed your life?

The biggest change winning has made to my life

so far is moving country. My hometown is Malta so

I've moved since winning the competition. I've

completed the Company photo shoot and I am so

excited to see it in print! I did the shoot a day after

I had won the competition.

How was working with Elle Macpherson?

She is such a genuinely very nice woman and she even called me on the

phone after I had won the competition to see how I was.

Any favourite fashion trends this season?

I don't really follow fashion trends as I like to invent my own style and I love

vintage items that are one of a kind.

What would be your ultimate campaign?

Burberry

Page 11: Kindred Sole Edition Issue 2

Runner Up of Britain's Next Top Model Series 6

Joy

"I've just signed to Models 1, the modelling agency

that the winning model is signed to so I am so

pleased to have been signed to them too! Another

big step I've made since being in the competition

is I've left my hometown of Leeds".

What was it like working with Elle?

Elle was amazing and so involved in the show;

and if it wasn't for her a lot of the designers and

people who featured in the show wouldn't have.

She was a real driving force behind BNTM. She

was involved in so many aspects of the show producing, editing and very

hands on throughout. She even called me into her private dressing room on

'results night' which was so nice!

What would be your dream campaign to feature in?

Estee Lauder, Roberto Cavalli - more trend led companies.

Who's your style icon?

Kate Moss because even in her casual street style she looks great!

Known as the people's favourite in Series 6

Charlotte

"Being in the competition hasn't changed who I

am. I am still the same crazy person!!"

Who's your style icon?

My mum! I love vintage styles and raiding my

mum's wardrobe to find fashion treats.

Do you follow fashion trends?

I don't like following fashion trends. I think if you're

confident and comfortable in what you are

wearing that's fashionable and the best way to be.

What campaign would you like to feature in?

Ooohh that's a tough one! I don't really mind and don't have a specific brand

in mind but would love to feature in a hair/makeup campaign!

What is your most recent purchase?

My Shoes! (girl after our own heart buying shoes)

GLOBAL COOL LAUNCH NEW CAMPAIGN

INSPIRING YOU TO „TURN UP THE STYLE, TURN DOWN THE HEAT‟

At Britain's Next Top Model Live 2010 we caught

up with the people behind the green lifestyle

organisation, Global Cool who are inspiring

people to get stylish at home and use less

energy.

The campaign, fronted by TV fashionista

Gemma Cairney, shows people how to re-

fashion their much-loved jumpers into this

season’s latest trends as a way of encouraging

them to turn their thermostat down. ‘Turn Up The

Style, Turn Down The Heat’ is a nationwide

campaign with fashion events taking place in

cities across the UK.

As the official charity partner of the BNTM Live

2010, Global Cool hosted the ‘Global Cool

Lounge’ where visitors had the opportunity to

get expert advice from a team of stylists on how

to re-fashion jumpers - customising existing

knitwear to create unique, uber-stylish pieces.

Throughout this campaign Global Cool aims to tackle the 30% of an average Brit’s carbon footprint

created by home heating. Typically, a UK household could save approximately £55 per year by

turning down the thermostat by just one degree.

Kindred Sole Edition attended the ‘Turn up the style, turn down the heat’ workshops which were

brilliant! Overall, 181 jumpers were given some TLC, and were revamped from drab to fab! It was

great to see people of all ages getting involved for such a great cause and creating their very own,

unique knitwear!

Gemma Cairney

Gemma Cairney's latest fashion venture is for

the charity 'Global Cool' promoting the campaign

"turn up the style, turn down the heat". We

caught up with Gemma on the ever so kitsch

sofa to find out more!

"I've been learning how to make pom-poms

which is really cool. I've even made my own

jumper with my initials on." We asked Gemma

what the best thing about 'turn up the style, turn

down the heat' was - "It's really nice to have an

item that you have made and that is individual to

you!"

Gemma told us how mum's and daughter's had

been in the Global Cool

lounge and been competing to make the best jumper.

Kristina O'Connor is the founder of online shopping

haven StoreSociety.com - where fashion addicts

and fashion stores connect. This month we catch

up with Kristina who was featured in The Best 100

Entrepreneurs and Leaders behind British Fashion

Websites for 2010 by Drapers. Find out Kristina's

inspiration behind Store Society her fashion faux

pas and who her fashion icon of the year is!

How would you describe Store Society?

I would say it's a fashion search engine, a place to

discover hundreds of new stores and thousands of

items. It's also a community for fashion lovers

where members can share their style, upload

pictures of their favourite items and 'follow' other

members whose style they love. They can also add

stores to their 'store list' to receive notifications of

all the latest offers and new items.

What was the inspiration behind Store Society?

The inspiration came when I was invited to a fancy

dress party and the theme was 'space'. I spent

hours on different search engines typing in words

like 'futuristic' and 'spacey', and the results were

completely irrelevant. I wanted to create something

that made this process easy.

Store Society supports the retail industry, who

has supported or inspired you?

I would say first and foremost my parents inspire

me, my dad with his ambition and drive and my

mother for her strength and kindness. In the world

of business I would say I have a lot of respect for

Mark Zuckerberg, what a whirlwind he has

experienced. Can you imagine a Store Society

movie?! Haha! Also Duncan Bannatyne is someone

I look up to, his autobiography is very inspiring.

What has been the best thing about Store

Society so far?

The best thing has been having the idea in my

head, to working with designers and actually seeing

the website working and being used by people all

over the world. It's a very satisfying feeling!

How would you describe your own style? What

inspires this?

I would say that my style is quite eccentric. I dress

to express how I am feeling, rather than following

the latest trends. I've got some mad pieces in my

wardrobe including a full length bunny rabbit

jumpsuit to a beautiful lace wedding dress that I got

for £40 at the market! I buy what I love, and I dress

only to please me!

What trend will you be following this season

and which one will you do without?

Velvet is something I always return to in winter. I've

got rich purple, silver and red wine velvet leggings.

They look great mixed with casual pieces and are

very luxurious! I have to say I will be doing without

the cape this season. I find it impractical and

unflattering unless you've got legs like a 6ft

supermodel!

What has been the biggest Fashion Faux Pas

you have made?

I wouldn't say it was a faux pas, but when I was 14

I presented an award at the National Television

Awards to my dad. I wore a beautiful silk black

trouser suit but I wore it with just a bra underneath!

There was quite an uproar about it and I remember

seeing dad's shocked face as I entered the stage,

but I thought it looked great and it's not like there

was anything to see at that age!

As we are racing towards December who has

been your fashion icon of the year?

I wouldn't say she is my fashion icon but someone

who has been setting trends and doing her own

thing is Rihanna. She's so edgy and pulls it all off

with her incredible figure and confidence!

Favourite Tweeter/Blogger to follow?

That would have to be me! @kristinaoconnor See

what I get up to from day to day, from recording in

a music studio with Cee Lo Green to arguing with

the Parking Permit woman from the council! Follow

@storesociety to be kept up to date with the latest

items and exclusive offers from Store Society!

Violet Revolution is the place where you can

discover the latest women's fashion trends, style

advice and uncover high fashion boutiques in

Chicago. Kindred Sole has been following Violet

Revolution on Twitter for some time and we all love

the approach to fashion that the blog has.

Where did your passion for clothes come from?

My mom forcing me to shop when I was younger,

haha!

What makes Chicago a fashion destination?

When tourists come here, they usually explore all

the shops on Michigan Avenue, but there's so

much more. There are several neighbourhoods in

Chicago, as well as some suburbs, that are known

for their boutique shopping. On top of that, we have

quite a few top design schools here (SAIC, IADT,

Columbia College plus others) and as a result,

quite a few Chicago-based designers. Macy's

department store also supports the Chicago

Fashion Incubator program where designers in

residence cultivate their skills and participate in a

fashion show during our "Fashion Focus Chicago"

fashion week (which was just last week!).

What's the best thing about being a fashion

blogger?

Being able to write about something I love. It also

gives me the opportunity to learn about new stores

and keep up with the latest styles. As we get older,

we tend to get set in our ways and, consequently,

stuck in a style time warp if we don't make an effort

to keep up with what's modern and trendy.

What A/W trend will be getting you through the

season?

I have to say I'm a fan of the military look. I have a

few jackets that have already pulled me through a

few cool days here.

Favourite Tweeter/Blogger to follow?

Wow, that's tough. I'd probably say DailyDivaDish

She's a fellow Midwestener, and the pictures she

incorporates into her posts are really beautiful and

inspiring. Twitter, I don't think I could pick one.

Probably other Chicago fashion mavens including

@shoelovadotcom @At_First_Blush_ are a few as

of late and you guys, of course ;)

What's your biggest style tip for 2010?

Leggings/jeggings became quite popular this year.

Sometimes I see these worn in a not-so-flattering

way. My style tip would be to wear them with a top,

jacket or dress that covers your behind, but not

past your mid-thigh.

In your Blog Violet Revolution what is your

most asked fashion question?

Hmm..well, I tend to get asked about styles (what

styles look good on me/my body type, what styles

are in) and colours or prints the most

How would you describe your style?

I'd describe my look as "fashionably real" which to

me means some cutting edge fashion mixed with

real world clothing. Like I'd maybe wear your Block

Pump Hi shoes, which are eye-catching, with a

motorcycle jacket and skinny jeans, which are

trendy but practical.

What is your fave shoe trend of the season?

Heeled lace-up bootie, like the Bronx Rasor Boots

you guys have, has grown on me this season. I like

that you can wear them casually or dress them up.

Bloggers & Celebrities - They really did say this:

@Caryn_Franklin Old models, young models,

middle aged too... all are great. Femininity is

diverse. Beauty is diverse.

@henryholland Get off my hair aiden. I can't take

another Jedward fiasco

.

@hotpatooties To the P to the O to the T. To the A

to the T to the OhOhOh, POTATO - OK, will stop

this now.

@Schofe Isn't it strange that when you call the

'sales' number of a company they pick up in a flash,

but when you call 'service' it takes 3 hours!!

Page 18: Kindred Sole Edition Issue 2

REDFOOT FOLD UP BALLET PUMPS

Cosmopolitan Magazine call them "Party Pumps. Belle shoe is the perfect

accompaniment for those days when you want to channel Mulberry's muse,

the preppy Miss Chung - buy you don't have her bank balance!"

The most on trend boots for Autumn Winter 2010 are fashion military boots. Embrace the trend with the Dark brown lace up 'Cadet' boots or take

influence with the Tan mid calf 'Furlong' boot this season everybody needs a pair of fashion military boots.

Cadet Boots Furlong Boots

BROGUES:

MUST HAVE SHOES OF THE SEASON

Brogues are the must have shoes of the season. Stylish and practical they are a great fashion

alternative to every woman's love affair with ballet pumps. From flat brogue shoes to high heel ladies

brogues every woman should own a pair. A favourite amongst celebrity fashionista's Sienna Miller to

Alexa Chung. Brogues can be worn casually with chunky knits and tights to skinny jeans or worn with

smart tailoring for a fashionable work wear look.

Jazzy brown brogues

Leather brogues are one of the most versatile shoe styles of the

season however we love Jazzy brown brogues as they take it

one step further. These brown brogues are so versatile as you

get two looks from one shoe. Jazzy brown brogues detachable

gold inspired lace tassel. Wear with the tassel for an individual,

stylish look. Wear without for a simple, casual look.

Herald White Brogues

Herald white brogues by the coveted designer label Bronx are

one of our best sellers and we can see why! Herald brogue are

transitional through seasons and with brogues being on trend

right through to next year Herald ladies brogues are an

investment buy. Herald white brogues form part of Bronx shoes

vintage inspired collection. Each Herald brogue is treated

differently so each brogue shoes are exclusive to the wearer.

Lois Brogues

Lois tan brogues have taken inspiration from traditional ladies

brogue styling but have a feminine edge to them. Lois tan

brogues by designer Velvet Bee is made from tradition brown

leather with feature brown suede panels. Lois tan brogues has a

low court heel making these shoes have the perfect modern

interpretation of the traditional Oxford Brogue.

Have your say and tell us which brogues are your

favourite...! email: [email protected]
