EDITOR'S PAGE CLYDE'S CORNER

July 1968

Dear Cousins-by-the-dozens:

We are beginning to make progress toward the completion of the

Quarterlies for 1968. It is hoped that it will not be too long before we

can get them finished and mailed to you and we will look toward getting

those for 1969 under production.

When we deliver the three last issues for 1968, we want you who have not

joined for 1969 to come on in and pay your dues and get on the waiting

list with those that have already paid.

This issue is filled with much Alabama material which I collected several

years ago from many counties, and feel that some might have significance

for many branches of the family that settled in parts of Alabama. Many

from these branches have moved on to other states. It is hoped that some

of you that have made inquiries about various branches in Alabama will

find some leads that will be worthwhile to our searching.

It is always interesting that there are others all along getting the

genealogy bug. I'm glad that there are so many of the Kimbro-Kimbrough

family that are taking an interest. I'm sure that there are many that I

still know nothing about.

My daughter has come through with the typing and cutting of stencils for

this issue making it possible to provide you with another issue. If I

can get the mimeographing done along with getting the date ready for

publication we should get out several issues but it still takes time.

There is gardening, fishing, working on inventions, church work, lodge

work, and a variety of other things that have to have their place in my

life as well as genealogy so you see that it takes one that is busy to

get things done even thought it takes a lifetime sometimes.

I want to say a kind word for those who have maintained membership in the

Association not knowing whether or not they would ever get another

quarterly. My records are not the best but I do have those credited that

have paid in advance and it is so shown and my wife has been advised as

to the action to take in case something might happen to me.

While on this subject I will say that the material that I have on Kimbro-

Kimbroughs will be given to the Archives in Montgomery except for the

extra copies of Quarterlies which I hope the Association will make some

plan for dispensation. They should go to the next editor should you

continue as an organization. Often new members want some of the back

issues.

/s/ Clyde H. Kimbrough - Your editor.

THE BIRMINGHAM NEWS, JANUARY 25,1967.

"ALEX CITY HAS PRETTIEST GRAND JURY"

"This is the prettiest looking grand jury I ever saw," said Dist. Atty.

Tom F. Young. And his statement won't be challenged.

Eleven of the 18 members of the Tallapoosa Grand Jury in session this

week are women, undoubtedly the largest single number of women ever to

serve on any jury in Alabama.

Well, how does a woman-dominated grand jury compare with the all-male

grand juries which were usual until the U.S. Supreme Court said that all-

male juries were unconstitutional?

"I've found them to be very efficient, they are conducting the affairs of

the grand jury in a very business like manner," said Young, with

conviction.

About the only difference he indicated was that there has to be less

smoke in the grand jury room. Not as many of the women smoke.

Young said practically all of the women jurors are housewives, although

some also have jobs such as secretaries and insurance executives.

Mrs. Carlisle Gunn, a recent Mrs. Alabama, if one of the eleven.

(Note: Mrs. Gunn is dau. of Prof. Theo D. Kimbrough of Alexander City,

Ala.)
