Well done to these girls. Despite the speed of the term, much has been accomplished and I encourage the girls to take some time in the holidays to review what they need to do to be prepared for Term 2. This term can be very challenging as we enter the colder and darker months and workloads increase. Some careful organisation, planning and preparation can go a long way for a successful Term 2. Although Good Friday and Easter are two weeks away, we concluded today with a school liturgy based around these important Church days. The liturgy, supported by our senior drama classes and music groups, was respectfully entered into, with students being challenged to consider how we can live a life truly based on the message of Easter – hope and forgiveness. Congratulations to all girls who brought back their Project Compassion boxes and those who were involved in the organisation and presentation of the liturgy. It always seems a little irreverent, but after the liturgy we drew the winners of the Easter Egg raffle. Again, thanks to students who contributed towards the raffle and to the Killester Involvement Committee who, together with Ms Cannon, organised this fundraiser. It was great to see many parents at this week’s Learning Conversations. If you were unable to speak to a teacher, please remember you are most welcome to email staff. Dear Parents and Friends,

Here we are at the end of Term 1 and it is hard to believe school holidays are upon us. Most students have worked consistently this term and quickly settled into the routine of school. In particular, our Year 7 students have really embraced life in secondary school. Well done to these girls.

On Wednesday 27th of March, the Year 11 Sport and Recreation class had an incursion where DSR (Disability Sport & Recreation) came to Killester to let the class experience and hear the stories of what it’s like ‘living and moving’ in a wheelchair. DSR talks to thousands of students to raise awareness of disability and promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, encouraging students to think about diversity, acceptance and disability. Experiencing Wheelchair basketball was very fun and interactive, as the students found it difficult to dribble the ball as well as control the wheel-chair, whilst going up and down the court. Taking part in this, I realised that having no control in the legs was very challenging, as the main body part that we rely on to move around are our legs but, overall, the incur-sion was a great experience that taught the class how life should be lived to fullest, and that no one should tell you otherwise.

Special guest speaker, Gary who has been living in a wheelchair for 26 years, really motivated and moved the class to open their eyes, and see how lucky we are to be living in a life where everything is easy access to move from and about to places. He described how travelling in small places, going over bumps and stairs, going to the toilet, even going camping with his children was difficult. Although, he never gave up, or thought it was too much. Gary overcame from those challenges he was being faced whith and strived to live life to the fullest, even if it meant moving in a wheelchair for his entire life. A message that Gary left us to remember was, “If you ever have an accident in your workplace that changes your life, don’t just hold back and stop yourself from exploring the outer world, and limiting yourself from everyday activities. You are just as human as everyone else, but just because your life is now seen in a wheelchair, does not mean that your life has come to an end. Live life to the fullest, and take this as an advantage”.

On Wednesday 27th March, the Yr10 Photography & Film students took part in an all day excursion. We travelled to the Monash Gallery of Art in Ferntree Gully Rd Wheelers Hill to see the exhibition ‘In the Wild’. The exhibition showcased the legacy of Peter Dombrovskis the prolific Tasmanian wilderness photographer.

The students have been studying the Art Elements & Principles this term. With this in mind, Stephanie, the Gallery Education Officer explained & highlighted Dombrovskis’ method of composing his photographs together with the significance of his work in saving the Gordon River in Tasmania.

From there we travelled to Cranbourne Botanic Gardens where the students explored the wild beauty of the Australian aridand eucalyptus gardens under a sunny blue sky. Using school SLR cameras with black & white film, the students had fun composing their own ‘In the Wild’ photographs. These creative artworks will be on display at the 2019 Killester Art and Technology Show & Open day in October. Overall it was a fantastic and enjoyable day.
