Has more than 1 200 scientific and pedagogical fellows, among whom there are 137 professors, 188 Doctors of Scienc-es, 341 associate professors and 719 PHDs;

More than 13 000 students, internship doctors, masters, resident medical practitioners, post-graduate students and doctors of sciences, among whom there are 1 200 foreign citizens;

International standard diploma: Diploma Supplement; Partner of Consortium of European Universities: in September of 2011, joined the association of signatories of Magna Charta Universitatum.

HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY

1840 The Greatest Rescript was signed by His Imperial Majesty Nickolas the First, whereby the medical faculty was established at the University of Saint Vladimir in Kyiv (29 of April, Old Style).

1841 Decision of the Professors’ Council of the University of Saint Vladimir was adopted, whereby the medical faculty had to be opened in September of 1841. The first admission of students: 29 students.

1842 Activities of the medical faculty commenced according to a new Charter, whereby teaching some additional disciplines was established pursuant to the organizational structure and a chair of state medical science was created.

1853 Anatomy theatre of the medical faculty was established.

1881 The students’ scientific society “Clinical Society of Medical Students” was organized.

1885 Surgical and therapeutic hospitals were built.

1888 The obstetrical hospital was built.

1920 The Kyiv Institute of Healthcare, which united the medical faculty of the University of Saint Vladimir, the Women’s Medical Institute, and Medical Faculty of the Ukrainian State University, was created.

1921 The Kyiv Institute of Healthcare was renamed into the Kyiv State Medical Academy, which thereupon became the Kyiv Medical Institute.

1930 Publishing of the newspaper “The Red Medical Practitioner” commenced; in 1936 it was renamed into the “Medical Personnel”.

1941 The Institute was evacuated.

1943 The Institute resumed its activities in the city of Kyiv.

1946 The Kyiv Medical Institute was named after the Academician A. A. Bohomolets, President of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic.

1965 The Museum of History of the Medical Science was organized (from 1982, it was called the National Museum of Medical Science of Ukraine).

1992 The Institute was reorganized into the state medical university named after A. A. Bohomolets.

1995 The University was granted the status of the National Medical University named after A. A. Bohomolets.

2003 The University became a co-founder of the Inter-University Center of Cooperation of the Eastern and South-Eastern Europe, which included 33 universities from 14 states of the European region.

2007 The University became a partner of the project of the European Union: Erazmusundus External Cooperation Window Lot 6 и Lot 7.

2011 The University joined the association of signatories of Magna Charta Universitatum, Bologna, Italy. In 2011, the University won a competition and joined the program TEMPUS.

CLINICAL FACILITIES

The University’s clinical chairs in cooperation with medical and preventive institutions of the city of Kyiv have been performing a considerable volume of medical and consultative works. 53 clinical chairs of the National Medical University are located on 137 clinical facilities of medical and preventive institutions.On the annual basis, employees of clinical chairs of the University carry out treatment activities for more than 200 thousand patients, including more than 80 thousand patients requiring curative treat-ment. More than 60 thousand surgical and gynecological operations are conducted and 12 thousand deliveries are assisted. 34 thousand children are treated at the pediatric chairs. Using the facilities of the Stomatological Medical Center of the National Medical University named after A. A. Bohomolets, a number of republi-can medical and methodological centers have been operating: periodontology, neurostomatology, prevention of stomatological diseas-es. As of today, more than 300 jobs have been created, which results in ensuring individual practical activity of each student.Using the clinical chairs of the university, 9 republican and 20 city special-ized centers coordinating activities of the inter-oblast centers, city hospi-tals, have been conducting their intensive works.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION National Medical University named after A. A. Bohomolets is active in cooperating with the World Health Organization and European Regional Bureau of the World Health Organiza-tion. The University entered into 43 agreements with international and foreign organizations and establishments; it is a participant of 27 educational and 49 scientific international projects. The University is a partner of the European Union Program “Erasmus Mundus” for ensuring mobility of students and lecturers; in cooperation with the Caroline Institute (Swe-den), the educational and scientific program for training of young scientists is being imple-mented. The University has been fruitfully cooperating with the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX), European Association of the Healthcare Schools, International Association of Medical Education of Europe, European Regional Bureau of the World Health Organization, Federation of Healthcare Institutions of France La FEHAP, Consortium of European Universities, Agency of International Development, with the Fogarty Fund, “Renaissance”, Fulbright Fund, Legal Association of Southern America, Charity Fund of “Medical Assistance”, the Inter-University Center of Science and Cooperation of the Eastern and South-Eastern Europe (Italy), European Association of Public Health, Eastern European Network of Universities (Poland), German Service of DAAD, and Agency for International Development (USA). EDUCATION OF FOREIGN STUDENTS

During the latest years, the countries geography is extending and a number of foreign citizens studying at the University are increasing. More than 10 000 medical practitioners from 64 countries of the world have received their professional education at the University for more than four decades. The most experienced experts representing professors and tutors of the National Medi-cal University named after A. A. Bohomolets, who have 15 and more years of experience, are working with foreign citizens. The academic process is based on uniting of principles of individual studies, objectivity and penetration into the language environment and practical orientation; its efficiency is confirmed by the following fact:

As of today, more than 2 100 students and more than 200 masters, resident medical practitioners and post-graduate students from 65 countries of the world study at the National Medical University named after A. A. Bohomolets. Foreign students are taught in three languages; Ukrainian, Russian and English. More than 1000 citizens from 40 countries of the world are taught in English.Foreign students take an active part in activities of scientific groups, multi-specialization Olympiads; take prize-winning places in sporting compe-titions. On the annual basis, our University admits foreign students to the following faculties: medical (training in specialty “medical business”); stomatological (training in specialty “stomatology”); pharmaceutical (training in specialty “pharmacy”); foundation studies course, wherein the applicants get basic knowledge in physics, biology, chemistry, Russian or Ukrainian.National Medical University named after A.
