Kidney Health Week (26 May – 1 June): 1 in 3 is at increased risk – are YOU? Kidney Health Week is upon us with an official launch on Monday 27 May at Parliament House in Canberra. The messaging this year reinforces the need for Australians to identify if they are the ‘1 in 3 Australians at increased risk of kidney disease.’ Undetected, untreated kidney disease is a silent killer. Kidney disease is common, harmful and treatable if detected early. We encourage you to do a free online kidney disease risk assessment online by clicking on www.kidney.org.au Thank you from Kidney Health Australia CEO, Anne Wilson Welcome to our first Kidney Catch Up which is designed to keep you informed on how your financial support has enabled Kidney Health Australia to continue it’s vital work. We provide education, advocacy, research and support to Australians affected by kidney disease. Thank you for your loyalty to Kidney Health Australia. Your generosity in donating to us, supporting our appeals, participating in our events, buying lottery tickets and using our KHA Comms phone plans (among others) has enabled us to continue to grow our services in order to ‘save and improve the lives of Australians affected by kidney disease’. Kidney Catch Up is our newsletter that allows us to keep in touch and say thank you for your support. Your contributions help us ‘make a difference’ to the lives of Australians affected by kidney disease. Sincerely, Anne. kidney catch up MAY 2013

Live Donor Leave Scheme – Kidney Health Australia advocacy successLast month the Federal Government announced with Kidney Health Australia a two year pilot of a Live Donor Leave Scheme. Kidney Health Australia, with the assistance of live donors and the broader kidney community, have been calling for a scheme of this nature as a way of providing better financial support for live donors in a sensible, safe manner. The pilot scheme will provide up to six weeks paid leave at minimum wage to employers, who will pass it on to those eligible employees who become live organ donors. Click here for more info.

National Kidney Kids Camp – biggest to date!A record-breaking 79 children took part in last month’s National Kidney Kids Camp in Queensland. Kidney Health Australia’s patrons, Sir Jack and Lady Brabham, greeted the children with kidney disease and their siblings. Thanks to our Kidney Kar Rally supporters, this camp is offered free to families from all over Australia. Now in its fifteenth year, the camp continues building self-confidence in children while providing respite and most importantly FUN! You can read more about our camps here.
