Kick Start Your Summer Workout Plan in 5 Easy Steps
Whether you’ve worked all year to get into shape for the summer or want to embark on a
new workout plan, getting the right start is critical for achieving and maintaining the
results you want. The summer presents unique challenges for your routine, from timing to
hydration to recovery. As you prepare to start your training plan, keep the following tips
in mind so that you can look and feel great while staying safe in the summer heat.
1. Stay Hydrated – With temperatures rising, it is imperative that you maintain a
healthy level of fluids so you can stay hydrated. Drinking cool water before a
workout will allow your body to get the start it needs in the morning. This way,
you will get the most out of your workout. During the summer, your body will
rapidly lose water and nutrients in the heat. Drinking an electrolyte replacement
drink, such as Vitalyte, helps your body replenish nutrients that are lost so you
can regain the energy you need to keep going.
2. Beat the Heat – Since it is hotter outside than it was even just a few weeks ago,
you may be more tempted to sleep in or skip the occasional workout. However,
being smarter about your summer workout plan will lead to results. According to
Mayo Clinic, exercise and air temperature increase the core temperature of your
body. Combat this by adjusting your schedule to work out early in the morning
before the warmest part of the day, or later in the evening when the sun is going
down. You’ll allow your body to stay cool, especially when you are exercising
outdoors.
3. Invest in Smarter Clothing – Working out in the summer is about staying cool
and hydrated so that you can stick with your training plan and feel great doing so.
During the summer, your first inclination may be to wear looser fitting clothes for
ventilation. However, those that are prone to chaffing will find that loose clothing
combined with added sweat during a hot workout can make things much worse.
Instead, wear clothing that is fitted, but not too tight. Light colors also help reflect
sunlight so you don’t absorb extra heat.
4. Start Slowly – Now that the weather has turned the corner and the days are
heating up, you need to be sure to ease into your summer workout plan. Your
body takes time to adjust to its surroundings, which is why it is smart to start
slowly in terms of intensity so that you achieve results. Over the course of a week
or two, do a little more each day to work up to full speed.
5. Recover Correctly – Recovery after a workout is just as important as the
workout itself. Once you complete your training for the day you likely will not
have as large an appetite as you normally would. However, by eating a Vitalyte
chia bar, you are able to regain energy and put necessary nutrients back into your
body.
Planning ahead this summer will help you stay on track with your training so that you can
stay healthy and feel great all year. To learn more about electrolyte replacement drinks
