QUESTION 1
The final marks in statistics subject of 80 students at a private university
are recorded as given bellow.

Answer the following
a) Find the highest marks, the lowest marks, and the range of the data,
b) The marks of the five lowest ranking students,c) The marks of the student ranking tenth highest,
d) Develop a frequency table
i. How many students received marks of 74 or above
ii. How many students received marks 85 or below,
iii. The percentage of students received marks higher than 67 but not higher
than 85 marks.
e) Find the mean, mode, median; determine the shape of the distribution.f) Develop the cumulative less than table
g) Plot the histogram & polygon.
h) Plot the cumulative polygon.

a) A coin is weighted so that Pr(H) = 2/3, and Pr(T) = 1/3. The coin is tossed three
times. Answer the followings:
i. Obtain the sample space of the experiment.
ii. The probability of each simple event,
iii. Let random variable X represent the number of ‘H’ in each simple event,
develop the the distribution table of X,
iv. Obtain E(X), E(X2), and Variance of X

b) Box A contains nine coins numbered 1 through 9, and Box B contains five coins
numbered 1 through 5. A box is chosen at random and a card drawn from it. If the
number on the drawn card is even, find the probability that the card was from Box
A.
