Finch Report FindingsJune, 2012 Landmark Report

Open Access is the future of academic publishing

Focuses on access, not hosting issues

Recommends Open Access Gold publishing model Article Publishing Charges

Questions Remain for UNM & Similar Size Institutions:Funding Source of APCs?Would authors pay to publish in smaller academic journals? Are the Finch Recommendations Sustainable?

Annual Working Papers

OJS requires some kind of unique issue identifier, whether title, volume or issue numbers. Since this is a working paper series, issues are designated by year.20Flexible Scheduling

Content can be added on the fly to any issue once it has been created, regardless of publication status.21Role Based Landing Page

Roles are administered by journal managers. Available tasks and actions will depend on each users role. A journal manager who was not also enrolled as an editor would not have to view or address editorial tasks. Likewise, a user enrolled only as an editor would not have an option to view admin tasks.22Customizing the Content

Five step setup process allows admins to make changes to site policies at any time. The final step within this process allows admins to make changes to the main page content, banner elements, layout and CSS.23Customizing the Look

Creating a Theme

Customizing the Template

Default site behaviors can be changed by editing the underlying php/SMARTY templates. In this case, the clients wanted the author role to be enabled by default for new registrants. Adding a conditional statement to the php made it possible to activate that role without affecting the default behavior of other hosted journals.26Inter-Society for the Electronic Arts InternationalISEA: An international non-profit organization fostering interdisciplinary academic discourse and exchange among culturally diverse organizations and individuals working with art, science and technology.
