Kent Archery Association
NEWSLETTER
May
2016
Greetings,
Yesterday I was at the Kent Invitation and everybody complained about the heat and the wind so what happens.. As I
type this it is pouring down with rain.
There are a number of articles that need care full reading in this issue as well as some that are about KAA archers
achievements so enjoy!!
As usual all the errors contained herein are mine!!
Mark
KAA Website and Mike Brighton
Thos of you who read the AGB website (as I am sure you all do !!!) may have seen
that the KAA website won the website of the year award from AGB. The award was
collected from the AGB AGM by B. Beaney in April. The site was created by Mike
Brighton who unfortunately died last year so the Committee would like to dedicate it
to his memory; a suitable certificate will be presented to Jane, his wife, in due course.
More Good News
While on the subject of good
things.. Have you heard about
Sittingbourne Community
College Archery Club? Apart
from Adam Kenyon being
awarded a Bronze plaquette at
last year’s AGM the club has
now won the ‘Junior Club On
Target Award’ seen here being
presented by David Reader
from AGB.
Cancellation
It was with a collection of heavy hearts that the KAA committee decided to cancel the inaugural ‘Un sighted bows’
tournament in May. This was down to the fact that there were just too few entries to make it viable in terms of
volunteer’s time, venue cost and so on. The committee will look at the situation for next year. On a personal level I
now have a Sunday off but as the event was asked for by Bare Bow and Long Bow archers it was very disappointing.
The KAA invitation was held on May the 9th at Vigo. Now I am not sure how this happened but the County Captain’s
Team beat the President’s Team YET AGAIN.
The results have been sent out but here are the top archers from the day:-
RECURVE Stevie Kent 1025 143 56 & Sophie Castle 1160 144 87
COMPOUND Michael Kells 1242 144 117
LONGBOW Cliff Gadd 531 109 11 & Irene Crouch 373 101 6
BAREBOW Ian Day 576 112 10 & Sheila Ovenell 615 125 17
Don’t forget that all scores of Kent Bowmen and above are eligible for this event so make sure your scores go in to the
County Captain
B. Beaney

Even More Good News!!
Bayley Rose Sargent went to Hungary to represent our country. This is what she posted on line:-
Finally home from the European Youth Cup in Hungary. It was such an amazing experience for my first ever
international with GB! After getting over my nerves on the Tuesday morning I went on to shoot 670 in qualification
which ranked me 5th out of 15 and is also a competition PB for me. I finished up 7th individually after winning my 1/8
match but losing my quarter finals match. However, Rebecca, Abbie and I won silver in the team event! It was such a
brilliant week and I hope there will be more to come! It seems very surreal that only two years ago I was competing
in my first outdoor tournament and now I have competed internationally for my country. I'd like to thank Jon, Simon,
Nichola, Chris5na and the rest of the GB team for all your support and also a big thank you to # MerlinArchery # mybo
# op5cron # arrowsocks.
All we can say really is WELL DONE!!

While on the subject of National teams a
note from Neil Dimmock about EAF
The English Archery Federation (EAF) is a body
set up by the five English Regions within The
Grand National Archery Society (GNAS) to
select and manage teams for International
events where it is appropriate for England (as
opposed to Great Britain) to participate.
The EAF has squad participation and organises
weekends and other coaching events to
further these aims. Details of how to be
considered for any of the activities please
refer to the Federation web site,
www.englisharcheryfederation.org
The Regions also require the EAF to run
National tournaments and administer such
English Awards deemed appropriate (e.g.
English Crosses). Entry forms for the major
EAF tournaments are also downloadable from
this site.
Management of EAF is in the hands of elected
representatives from each region and is
independent of GNAS / ArcheryGB.
Recognising GNAS / AGB as the UK Governing
Body for the sport, where appropriate, EAF
will work in conjunction with GNAS/ AGB and
a Director with responsibility for regions has a
standing invitation to attend all EAF
Committee meetings.

Jane Brighton has a foam boss for sale: Contact the President or Chairman via the website if you are interested in
it… this is a message from her.
This is measuring JUST the foam
Height of foam target area is 88 cm; being square the width is the same as the height.
Depth of the foam is 22cm
Once I uncovered it, the foam target area is actually made of four squares; 2 x 2.
In the shed there are 2 more of the spare blocks not 4 as I had originally thought.
The wooden stand: Folded dimensions
From floor to top this is approximately; 178 cm high and 106 cm across. (This measurement is more of an iffy one
but approximate, I am only short and lost the battle with the metal tape measure!)
Condition:
The foam target face: This has been stored on the target frame, covered and is barely used, there are next to no
arrow marks in the foam, as Mike didn’t have much time to shoot it.
Wooden Frame: With a little wood preserver to freshen up the look; the stand is still currently sound wood.
I can’t see any brand marks on it anywhere obvious, to identify its make
I have taken photos of the target covered and with target faces on and with them removed, so let me know if you
would like me to send you those. I’ll need to make them small for emailing.
It has been stored outside but under a covered area and with the tarpaulin covering front and sides and the back
of the target protected by a building.
The tarpaulin cover: This has split slightly in one corner but there is no damage to the foam and only a little
weathering on exposed area of the frame itself at the lower exposed areas of the wood. ie fading of the wood.
Help.. Field Crew duties
It was really nice to see a few new faces on the field crew team for the Invitation event and the committee would
like to say ’Thank you’ to them.
All KAA tournaments need a lot of work but when the work is shared by a number of people it really helps.
The work involves:-
Marking out the field the day before the shoot
Setting out the field in the morning of the shoot.
Helping to find arrows etc. during the event.
Helping move the bosses into correct position at distance changes
Clearing the field after the shoot.
Volunteers do not need to do all of the above and can help for all or part of either day. Please get in touch with
Tony Henwood ( [email protected] ) or Mike Higgins ( [email protected] ).
