GARDEN VILLAGE PRINCIPLES
KENNETT GARDEN VILLAGE PRINCIPLES
1. To nurture the growth of a strong inclusive community that successfully integrates existing and new residents.
2. The Community Land Trust (CLT) will have a long term stewardship role – owning and managing land, homes and local facilities for the benefit of the community.
3. Through the CLT, existing residents will play a key role in shaping and managing the new place – acting as custodians in the early stages and encouraging involvement of the new residents as the community grows to maturity.
KENNETT GARDEN VILLAGE PRINCIPLES
4. There will be generous, well-managed green space linked to the wider countryside with:
• a new village green at the heart of the village;
• a mix of private and shared gardens to suit different lifestyles;
• increased biodiversity – encouraging wildlife into the village;
• edible landscape – planters, allotments, orchards, foraging hedgerows;
• an integrated sustainable drainage system.
KENNETT GARDEN VILLAGE PRINCIPLES
5. A range of types and sizes of beautiful and imaginatively designed homes; including affordable homes owned and managed by the CLT.
6. A quality charter and design code to ensure a high standard of design and construction is maintained.
7. Local amenities including a school, village hall and shop within walking distance of homes.
8. Local employment opportunities appropriate to the rural setting including hi-tech and small scale enterprise.
KENNETT GARDEN VILLAGE PRINCIPLES
9. A movement system that prioritises walking, cycling and public transport including an improved pedestrian and cycle route to Kennett railway station.
10. Natural traffic calming aiming to restrict speed of vehicles to 20mph within village.
