Live in the NowMany people are waiting for that great day when Jesus returns before they enjoy the benefits God has promised in His Word. Thank God for that great day, but it’s important for us to under-stand that the father wants us to enjoy all of His benefits today.

John 10:10 says that Jesus came that we might have life, and have it to the full. I like the New Living Translation of this verse. Jesus says, “ ‘My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.’ ” That word rich has a differ-ent meaning from what most people give it. It actually means a “full supply.” So Jesus is saying that He came to give us a life that is fully supplied. Hallelujah! That’s God’s promise for today!

Grab hold of what the Lord says in His Word. Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day of healing and deliverance. Today is the day of protection and provision. Today is the day of favor and success with God. Not tomorrow, not yesterday, but today is the day He wants to move in our lives!

I encourage you, don’t remain in the regrets of the past or live in fear of the future, but live in the now. Live while it’s today and enjoy the full, abundant, over-the-top, blessed life that the father wants you to have.

If you’re ready to live “today,” this month’s issue of The Word of Faith is the place to start. Dad’s article on page 14 will show you how to turn your finances around. And my article on page four will explain how every obstacle can become an opportunity.

Happy Independence Day

Have you ever noticed when you’re walking down the street, if some-thing catches your attention, you somehow find yourself drifting in that direction? Suddenly someone yells at you, “Hey, look where you’re go-ing!” But the problem is, you’re going where you’re looking!

The Same pRinciple iS TRue in every area of life. What-ever we’re looking at, that’s where we’re going. That will be our destination. This is why God wants us to focus on His Word and not our circumstances.

We see an example of this in the lives of the children of Is-rael. God promised the generation of Israelites who came out of Egypt that He would give them a land flowing with milk and honey. When they got there, they saw how good the land was. But they also saw giants and fortified cities. The vast majority of them

chose to focus on the obstacles. What they saw held them cap-tive, and they stayed in the wilderness. Only Joshua and Caleb believed God’s promise, and they eventually entered the Prom-ised Land. (See Numbers 13:26–14:24.)

If the children of Israel had focused on God’s promise to give them the land, they could have entered in with Joshua and Ca-leb. God was giving them a great opportunity. But those Israelites looked at the obstacles instead of the opportunity. They focused on their circumstances and received nothing.

Every time an obstacle comes across our path, we need to say what my dad used to say—“This is just another opportunity to prove that God’s Word works!” Every obstacle is an oppor-tunity. Looking at the obstacles in life that way will change our perspective. It will change how we feel and talk. It will change everything!

Joshua learned the secret of how to see things that nobody else could see. God told him to “meditate on [the Word] day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do” (Joshua 1:8 NLT).

Seeing things that no one else can see is what Paul was talking

Think AbouT: What obstacles are you facing? Do you see them as opportunities?

Triumph Over The Bumps Of Life

about when he said to look at the unseen realm (2 Cor. 4:18). When others are looking at the obstacles, we’re looking at the opportunities.

Joshua and Caleb saw themselves living in the Promised Land, and they eventually possessed the land. I’ve heard my dad say thousands of times, “See yourself with what you need. See yourself healed. See yourself without lack. See yourself blessed.” In other words, see yourself possessing what the Word of God says is yours.

When Joshua led the next generation of Israelites into the Promised Land to possess it, the circumstances and obstacles had not changed. There were still giants and fortified cities in the land. But this new group looked at God’s Word instead of the circumstances.

When the Israelites crossed the Jordan River, the first obstacle they faced was the great walled city of Jericho. God told Joshua, “ ‘I have given Jericho into your hand’ ” (Joshua 6:2 NKJV).

This generation of Israel-ites listened to God’s instruc-tions and obeyed them. He told them to march around the city once every day for six days. Then on the seventh day, they were to march around the city seven times, and sev-en priests were to blow the trumpets. When the people heard the trumpets, they were to shout, and the walls of the city would fall down.

The Israelites focused on the unseen thing that God had told them would happen if they obeyed His instruc-tions. When they obeyed, the walls of the city fell down flat. Then they went in and took possession of the city (Joshua 6:3–20)! They didn’t look at the large, walled city as an obstacle. They focused on the opportunity God had

given them by looking at the unseen, and they went on to take the land.

When Caleb was 40 years old, Moses promised him all the land where he placed his foot. Forty-five years later Caleb said to Joshua, “Give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day” (Joshua 14:12 NKJV). The mountain he wanted had giants in it, but he didn’t focus on the giants. Instead, he looked at the opportunity of having that beautiful mountain as his possession. He looked at the fruit that was growing there and thought about

how nice it would be to build his house overlooking the plains where his other relatives were living.

All of those years in the wilderness, Caleb had meditated on having his mountain. Forty years of wandering with that group of unbelieving people did not change his way of thinking. He didn’t become discouraged; he kept looking at the promise. He saw the situation the way God saw it. And God gave Caleb his mountain!

Possessing the PromisesGod created us to rule and reign in life, not to be dominated and reigned over. Christ won the battle for us by defeating Satan. But we must “fight the good fight of faith” (1 tim. 6:12) to receive the victory God has for us. this fight involves three basic areas:

3

1

2

You must fight to believe something. // the devil will do everything he can to get you not to believe God’s Word. Fight for your beliefs by continually feeding upon that Word.

You must fight to sAy something. // When the devil whispers something in your ear, refute those thoughts immediately by saying what the Word says.

You must fight to do something. // it’s important that you act as though the Word is true. God wants you to act like the victor he created you to be—not cast down or defeated.

onE oF ThE hAPPiEsT mo-ments of a man’s life is when his child is born. Nothing can quite compare with it. But once the baby is born, being a good father doesn’t come automati-cally. It takes work. Here are some points that will help dads everywhere.

Responsibilityfathers are responsible for their children. In this day and age, it seems that many dads leave this responsibility to their wives. In situations of divorce or sepa-ration, a father may not live with

his kids, but that doesn’t relieve him of his responsibility. He is still responsible for them.

When we think of responsibil-ity, we immediately think of finances. And that is a part of our responsibility, but it is really only one part.

MEn hAVE A sPiRiTUAL RE-sPonsibiLiTy To RAisE ThEiR chiLdREn in ThE wAys oF god. Unfortunately, a lot of fathers also leave this responsi-bility to mothers. If we want our children to grow up to be godly people, we have to be godly in front of them. Whether we like it or not, our kids will become just like us.

Just because a father believes in God doesn’t mean his chil-dren will automatically follow after the Lord. children won’t live a godly lifestyle if they don’t see it practiced in the home. If

a dad doesn’t lead by example, he can’t expect his kids to learn on their own.

It’s the fathers’ responsibility to show love to their children. It’s common to hear young people say, “My parents don’t love me.” It’s not that their parents don’t love them; it’s that their parents don’t show that love. A hug, a kiss on the cheek, and uplifting words go a long way and make a big difference.

RelationshipdEVELoPing A RELATionshiP wiTh chiLdREn bEgins ThE MoMEnT ThEy ARE boRn, and that means spending time with them. My dad and I had a lot of fun together while I was grow-ing up. I can’t remember a time when we did not go to football games or car races. Watching the races and games was al-ways special for me.

It’s important that dads support their kids while they are grow-ing up. It means a lot to kids to have their parents watch them play sports or attend their school plays or chorus recitals. Even though my dad was very busy and traveled a lot while I was growing up, he still made time to develop a relationship with me. He made it home to watch my football games or other sport activities. Some-times that meant rearranging his schedule, but he did what-ever was necessary to be there.

We also talked a lot. I knew I could tell my dad anything, and

I told him a lot of things. I knew I could trust him. Even today, my dad is my best friend.

God established the family unit before He established anything else. So it’s important to keep the family together. And this takes work. Good relationships between fathers and their chil-dren don’t happen automati-cally. They happen when dads take a genuine interest in their kids and are there for them no matter what. All families face challenges. Kids have their own minds and sometimes mess up. But it’s always good when the dad is involved in the kids’ lives.

RewardA father’s reward is seeing his children grow up to be godly adults and watching them raise godly children. But we have to do the first two R’s before we receive a reward. When we do them, we have a reward not only here on earth but also in Heaven when God says, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”

no onE is PERFEcT.

If you haven’t been the father you should have been, ask your heavenly Father for FoRgiVEnEss (1 John 1:9), and then work to REsToRE the relationship with your chil-dren. It may take time, but you will receive a reward if you don’t give up.

Do You Know Where

You’re Going?Have you ever been driving or walking somewhere and found yourself completely lost? No matter which way you turned, nothing looked familiar and you had no idea where you were. Do you remember the feeling of relief when you finally found the right way?

Perhaps you feel lost in life. Maybe you don’t know where you’re going or what you’re supposed to do. Well, someone does know. God tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, “ ‘I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for’ ” (Message). If you’re lost and need to find your way, simply pray this prayer:

God,I come to You in Jesus’ Name. I admit that I’m lost and need help in life. The Bible says, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Rom. 10:9 NLT). I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus, Your Son, from the dead. And I confess Jesus as my Lord. Therefore, according to Your Word, I am saved. I look to You to take care of me. Show me where to go and what to do. In Jesus’ Name, amen.

If you prayed that prayer, welcome to God’s family! We would like to send you some materials to help you in your new life with God. Email us at [email protected] or call us at 1-800-54-Faith (543-2484).

JameS and BeveRly Rackley know that God has a sense of humor. After graduating from Rhema Bible Training Center in 1976, James spent years ministering to the Indians and Eskimos in the arctic of northern Canada. At the coldest, temperatures there dropped to 77 below zero. When he married his wife, Beverly, a 1977 Rhema graduate, she joined him in his arctic missions. Five years after they married, God led them to the jungle of southern Mexico. “It was my faith that worked,” Beverly laughed.

From the start, the Rackleys’ ministry to Mayans and Mexicans in this remote jungle has been unique. It all began in 2000 when they sponsored a pastor to go out into the jungle villages and hold Vacation Bible Schools. “This pastor said there had never been any kind of spiritual activity for the jungle children,” James recalled. “He’d done his homework. He knew where to get curriculum and transportation, and he had a plan to teach the workers.”

With tears running down his face, this man explained that the only thing he didn’t have was the money to fund this outreach. He needed about $700 in U.S. currency. Without hesitation, James and Beverly agreed to sponsor him, assuming it was a one-shot deal. When the report came back, this pastor had touched

15 villages. He unexpect-edly brought notes from the children to the Rackleys, thanking them for their help and asking them to hold VBS again the next year.

“Of course, we said yes,” James exclaimed. “We’d been minis-tering in the villages and had noticed that 100 percent of the chil-dren would respond for salvation. This really boggled my mind until one pastor explained to us that they had never realized the importance of giving children an opportunity to accept Jesus. They thought the kids were OK because they attended church.”

This only added fuel to the Rackleys’ fire. The very next year they sponsored another jungle VBS. Only this time, they partici-pated themselves to see what was happening. “We reached 32 vil-lages that year,” James noted. “At that point I realized we had a tiger by the tail and that it was not a one-shot deal. We had to reevaluate what we had done and what we would do in the future.”

That year was only the beginning. James and Beverly con-tinued to bring in and train children’s workers from the jungle, teaching them how to do lessons, crafts, songs, and memory

verses. Before the start of VBS season in July, they’d provide each teacher with a resource package filled with basics like construction paper, coloring sheets, glue, and crayons. As Beverly explained, “If we ask you to do some-thing but put no resources in your hand, it’s like we’re asking you to bake a cake with no ingredients. So we came up with the idea for the resource packages.

“That’s what Rhema taught us,” she con-tinued. “We learned the Word and the Spirit, but we also learned not to be just hearers only. We learned to apply things to our lives. That’s what we’re teaching these teachers.”

More than 11 years after the Rackleys’ first VBS, their ministry is still going strong. In 2005 God provided them with property of their own in Bacalar, a city in the Mexi-can state of Quintana Roo. Dubbed the Oa-sis Center, the property houses dormitories, shower facilities, and a full kitchen and dining room—all of which were funded by Rhema churches and partners.

Teachers gather at the center several times annually to receive multiple days of training. The training—which includes housing, food, and classes—is provided at no cost to attend-ees, thanks to the Rackleys’ Adopt-a-Village program.

The results James and Beverly have seen speak for themselves. To date they have im-pacted the lives of more than 60,000 precious

children in the Mayan jungle of southern Mexico and northern Belize. They have con-sistently seen 40 to 50 percent or more of those children accept Jesus, which adds up to 30,000 children being born again. And the numbers are growing. In 2011 alone, the Rackleys and their team of teachers reached more than 150 villages and 15,000 children.

At one VBS in the city of Valladolid, there was a lady who had her arm bandaged and tucked under her shirt. “You could see she was in pain,” Beverly recalled.

After they asked her what was wrong, the woman revealed a shocking sight. “There was a bone sticking out of her arm,” Bev-erly said. “We laid hands on her and the bone popped back in place—just like that. I thought, ‘Whoa, that really worked!’ ” Com-pletely healed, this woman began to sling her arm around. And that afternoon she was one of the workers for the VBS.

“It’s really amazing how hungry the peo-ple are,” Beverly noted. “They’re taking what we’ve taught them to the parks and cities—not just to churches. One lady took what she learned to another state and taught 300 teachers. We give God all the glory.”

“The most exciting thing is to see the faces of thousands of children during VBS—to see tears flowing down those faces as hearts are opened to the Word of God,” James added. “Children are the world’s greatest natural resource, and we believe we can change a nation—one child at a time.”

wE ARE insTRUcTEd to pray “for kings, and for all that are in authority.” Have you ever won-dered why God would want us to pray for kings? When study-ing history, we very seldom find a king who was saved. Someone may ask, “Do you mean God would bless those leaders even though they weren’t christians?” Emphatically, yes! whEn wE PRAy FoR ThosE in AUThoR-iTy, wE ARE PRoMisEd “a qui-et and peaceable life.”

The passage from first Timothy continues:

1 TiMoThy 2:3–43 for this is good and accept-able in the sight of God our Saviour;4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

This is the ultimate reason God wants us to pray for the leaders of the nation we live in. god wAnTs ALL MEn To bE sAVEd And To coME To ThE KnowL-EdgE oF ThE TRUTh.

As christians, we should be concerned about our nation, but we shouldn’t put politics before christ. We should be interested, and we should vote and do all we can to have good govern-ment. But the main thing we should do is pray.

Some people say that christians shouldn’t be involved in politics. Well, let’s not let the devil take over everything! We’re just not to put politics first to the point that we neglect christ and the church.

It’s so easy to criticize, but the Bible never tells us to do that. I’ve found that it’s hard to criti-cize someone you’re praying for.

And the same is true when we’re praying for our government lead-ers. christians have the author-ity, power, and know-how to turn things around in government if we’ll take advantage of it. But wE’LL noT chAngE Things by cRiTicizing; wE’LL chAngE ThEM by gETTing on oUR KnEEs And inTERcEding.

one example of intercessory prayer in the Bible is found in Genesis 18:20–32. This pas-sage of scripture records the story of how God wanted to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because their sin was so great. But Abraham kept interceding for the cities until God said, “I will not destroy it for ten’s sake” (v. 32).

What a tremendous statement! God said He would spare those wicked cities for the sake of 10 righteous people! Sodom and Gomorrah were so sexu-ally impure that their sin gave us the term “sodomy.” (See Gen. 19:1–11.) Yet because Abraham interceded on their behalf, God said He would spare those cities if He found in them 10 righteous men.

If God was willing to spare So-dom and Gomorrah because

a righteous man interceded, will He not honor our petitions when we intercede for our cities and nations? I believe there are more than 10 righteous men in America today, don’t you? I believe there are people who will take their place in interces-sion just as Abraham did. As we do, the will of God will be con-summated, we will lead quiet and peaceable lives, and the Gospel will go to the ends of the earth._____________(Editor’s Note: This article was adapt-ed from one by Kenneth E. Hagin that appeared in the March 2001 issue of The Word of Faith.)

i lefT my laST paSToRaTe in 1949 and went out in field ministry, going from church to church holding revivals. After I’d been out on the field a solid year, from February 1949 to January 1950, my records showed I’d earned $1,200 less than my church had paid me for the previous 12 months.

Plus, the church had furnished our parsonage, which was the best we’d ever lived in. They also paid the utilities and all of my expenses to conventions. And they were always buying clothing and other gifts for my wife and me.

After I went out on my own, I had to pay my own rent, utili-ties, and convention expenses, as well as my traveling expenses to and from meetings.

During that first year on the field, my clothes and my car had worn out. The car had four bald tires and no spare. In fact, it got so bad I sold it for junk! We lived in a three-room apartment. Ken, our son, didn’t have a bedroom and had to sleep on a little rollaway bed in the kitchen!

I was holding a meeting in East Texas when I went to the Lord about our financial problems. I went on a partial fast, and each afternoon I spent several hours in prayer. On the third day, I had all my statistics laid out in front of me and said to the Lord, “See how much better off I’d be if I stayed in my church? That’s what I wanted to do anyhow.”

I’d gotten hold of Isaiah 1:19, “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land,” and I quoted it to the Lord again. I reminded Him that I had earned $1,200 less than the last church I pastored had paid me. I reminded Him that my clothes had worn out and I was on foot without a car.

I kept saying, “Lord, You said right here in your Word, ‘If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land,’ and I am not

eating the good of the land. My children are not ad-equately fed. We are not adequately housed.

I know the problem is not with You be-cause You don’t ever change. Where is

the problem?”The still, small voice of the Lord

spoke to my spirit, my innermost being: “The reason you are not eating the good of the land is that you don’t qualify. You are obedient, but you aren’t willing. So you don’t

qualify to eat the good of the land.”I made a little adjustment down

on the inside of me and got willing in 10 seconds! But then the Lord had to

correct my thinking. Wrong thinking de-feats us a lot of times. Our minds are filled with

what we’ve been taught, whether it’s scriptural or not.

How God Taught Me About Prosperity

The subject of prosperity is currently so misunderstood in the church world. The Lord Himself taught me about prosperity. I never read a book about it; I got it directly from Heaven. it blessed me and my family so much i want to share it with you.

The Lord said to me, “Go back to the Book of Beginnings.” (I knew He was talking about the Book of Genesis.) “You know I made my man Adam?” he continued.

“Yes.”“Adam originally was the god of this world. He ruled and

dominated it. That’s the way I planned it. When Adam sold out to Satan, then Satan became the god of this world (2 Cor. 4:4). I’m not withholding adequate food and clothing from your little children—that’s not Me! It’s the devil. He’s the god of this world.

“The money you need is on the earth. I’m not going to rain money down from Heaven. I don’t have any money up here. And if I did rain money down, it would be counterfeit, and I’m not a counterfeiter. The silver and gold are down on the earth where you need it.”

“Then what should I do?” I asked.“In the first place,” He replied, “don’t pray anymore about

money the way you have been praying.“number one, claim whatever you want or need, because it’s

down there on the earth. And Satan has the most control of it.”“Now, Lord,” I said, “I can believe that You want to meet our

needs—but our wants?”He replied, “You claim to be a stickler for the Word. In the

23rd Psalm it says, ‘The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not WANT’ (v. 1). And it says in the 34th Psalm, ‘The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not WANT any good thing’ (v. 10).

“number two,” the Lord continued, “say, ‘Satan, take your hands off my money.’ It’s Satan who is keeping it from coming to you—not me. And number three, say, ‘Go, ministering spirits, and cause the money to come.’ Ministering spirits are sent to serve you. Did you ever read in the Book of Hebrews where it says that angels are ‘ministering spirits, sent forth to minister FOR them who shall be heirs of salvation’ (Heb. 1:14)?”

I could see it then: for years, angels had been standing around me doing nothing because I had never told them to do anything.

Before the Lord spoke to me, I would pray, fast, weep, and cry and still barely skim by. But I got right up off my knees and went into the church. (I was staying in the parsonage next door.) With fear and trembling, I stood on the platform in that empty church and said, “I claim $150 this week. Satan, take your hands off my finances. Go, ministering spirits, and cause the money to come.”

I knew enough about faith to know that that settled it. There was no use repeating it, so I walked out of the church and back to my room.

I received the money that week. I tested this out time and time again, and I got the money I claimed every time. What about your situation? The same thing is true concerning you. If you’ll follow these steps, it will work for you too._____________(Editor’s Note: This article was adapted from Kenneth E. Hagin’s minibook How God Taught Me About Prosperity.)

wE ARE AnoinTEd to preach the Gospel—to tell people that Jesus has come! He has redeemed mankind. In fact, Hebrews chapter 7 says that He has redeemed us completely. He saved us to the uttermost. Anything that was broken, He fixed. Anything that was distorted, He straightened. Anything that was fractured, He com-pletely remade. Hallelujah! Jesus created a brand-new species of in-christ people, and every area of our lives is planted in His death, burial, and resurrection—in His first coming.

However, for our lives to sing, for our lives to have the pur-pose God has ordained, we must also plant ourselves in the second coming of the Lord. Then we’ll have a purpose for our lives.

There’s a purpose in us hav-ing healed bodies, for ex-ample. It’s not just because there are things we want to do in life. No! There’s some-thing Jesus wants us to do, and we can do it better if we are healed.

It’s the same with our fi-nances. Jesus was made poor so that through His poverty we could be rich. We can use our faith in this fact to access divine grace that explodes in our lives in abundance. While we

could just be so happy to have more and more, God has given us power to get wealth so He can establish His covenant in the earth. Why? Because Jesus is coming again!

There’s also a great pur-pose for our children. I look at my kids and I think of the destiny upon their lives. It makes me wake up every morning with purpose to be a mom. I’m anointed to be a mom. Why? So they won’t drive me up the wall? No! I’m anointed to work to-gether with the Holy Ghost to help form these people for their divine purpose. In the world to come, I won’t be their mom. But the one I call Lord will be their Lord. I want them to know Him, and that gives me purpose for my kids.

Just as a guitar serves no purpose unless it has been strung, so oUR LiVEs hAVE no PURPosE UnLEss ThEy hAVE bEEn sTRUng bETwEEn ThE FiRsT And sEcond coMing oF ThE LoRd. The Apostle Paul fin-ished his course because he was “strung.” He used eternity to help people un-derstand how to live now.

In Romans chapter 14 he told the Romans to quit judging and looking down on each other. It wasn’t just because they’d be hindered from receiving their bless-ings. It was because they would one day stand before the judgment seat of christ (vv. 10–12). In Second corinthians 1:14 he said that the very reason he was writing to the people in corinth was that Jesus is coming again and he want-ed them to have a good re-port on that day. He wanted to be proud of them.

And then we see in Ephesians 1:21 that Jesus is raised above all princi-palities and powers and might and dominion, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come. There is a world to come! And that gives us a reason to live now.

In Second Timothy 4:1–2 (Amplified) Paul said, “I charge [you] in the

presence of God and of Christ Jesus, Who is to judge the living and the dead, and by (in the light of) His com-ing and His kingdom: . . . preach the Word!”

in ThE LighT oF JEsUs’ sEcond coMing, PAUL sAid wE ARE To PREAch ThE woRd! There are so many other verses we could go to. But the reason Paul preached was not to have a great ministry; it wasn’t to see how many people he could get on his mailing list or how much money he could get.

No, Paul was “strung.” His Epistles are full of the rev-elation of what Jesus did in His first coming. But those Epistles are also full of reminders that Jesus is coming again. Paul built his ministry knowing that he did not want to stand be-fore Jesus in the end having just experienced the bless-ings. He wanted to help other people get there too.

There is a first coming, and there is a second coming—something now and some-thing then (1 cor. 13:12). And like Paul, we need to hook up to that fact. Then the father will tune every area of our lives. He’ll play our finances, our families, and our bodies. And while we’re alive on this planet, we’ll become part of His plan for that second pivotal event—the return of Jesus christ._____________[Editor’s Note: This article was adapted from Patsy Cameneti’s message at Kindle the Flame 2011. Action needed: Have you talked to God today? Set aside time to get into His presence, because He’s

ready to listen and help you through every situation.

God haS Given uS everything we need to live successful, godly lives. In His Word, He has given us many promises. But how do we take advantage of them? How do we move into His greater plans for us? To live victoriously, we must know the Fa-ther. It is the most important thing we need to do.

Peter tells us something about this.

2 PETER 1:3–4 (nLT)3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to KNoW HIM, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. 4 And because of his glory and excellence, he HAS GIVEN US GREAT AND PREcIoUS PRoMISES. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.

The key to living life down here on earth is getting to know our God! Just as it takes time to develop natural relationships, though, it also takes time to get to know the Father. It doesn’t happen instantly—even if we are living in the “instant” micro-wave age.

Think about it. It used to take an hour to bake a potato in the oven. Even though it now takes only five minutes in the microwave, I still find myself sitting there wondering, “Will this ever hurry up and get through?”

That’s the age we live in, and so that’s the way we try to approach our relationship with God. We want to get to know Him microwave-style. But the Father is saying, “I’m going to put you in the Crock-Pot. And I’m going to cook you until you’re so filled with My power, My strength, and My might that there is nothing that can keep you from fulfilling your calling.”

Hallelujah! When we allow the Father to put us in His Crock-Pot—when we take the time to get to know

Him—we’ll become like Him. Then we won’t give up, stress out, or fall down, no matter what we face.

So how do we get to know Him? One of the most important ways is by meditating in His Word. Joshua 1:8 instructs us to “ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you’ll get where you’re going; then you’ll succeed” (Message).

The Word is so precious! And if we want to know our God, we need to fall in love with His Word.

At Rhema Bible Church where my husband and I pastor, we give the babies in the nursery their own little Bibles. The teach-ers hold the Bible up to their cheeks and say to the children, “We love our Bibles.” Why? We want those little ones to get ac-quainted at an early age with loving their Heavenly Father and His Word.

I remember hearing about one little boy from church who was roaming around his house searching for something. His mother

didn’t have any idea what he was looking for. Finally, his eyes lit up when he saw the big family Bible in the living room.

That precious little boy went over to that great big Bible and struggled to try to lift it to his cheek. Why? Because he loved his Bible so much.

Like this little boy, we must fall in love with our Heavenly Father through His Word. You see, God’s character and nature are revealed through the Word. And the more we read and study for ourselves, the more we’ll learn about Him and see His faithfulness toward us in every situation.

The second way we come to know the Lord is through prayer. Our relationship with Him will not rise to the level He desires un-less we fellowship with Him.

Unfortunately, we sometimes get so involved in our daily lives—with the work of God—that we fail to commune with the God of our work. I’ve caught myself doing this. I was always the Martha who made everything happen. And we need Marthas! But we must be a Mary as well (Luke 10:38–42). We need to set aside time to talk to the Lord and allow Him to talk to us.

When He was on earth, Jesus always took time to fellowship with the Father. Though He was the Son of God and already knew why He had come, He spent more time praying to the Father than anything else.

That’s the way we should be with the Lord. We should pray about everything continually—not just when something awful hap-pens to us. I know it’s easy to push the 911 button during those crisis times and pray fervently. But that shouldn’t be the only time we talk to God! Prayer should be the response to every event in our lives (Phil. 4:6–7; 1 Peter 5:7).

The Lord desires so much for us to know Him, for our hearts to connect with His. The question is, will we spend time getting

to know Him today? That’s the only thing that will truly relieve the stresses of this life, be-cause when we know the Father, we know the end result. We always triumph. And no matter what path our life takes, the God we know—our Heavenly Father—will get us to our destination in victory!

Hundreds of singles converged on the Rhema

Campus in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, for the

Rhema Singles Conference 2012: Flying Solo—

three days of fun, laughter, soul-searching, and

encouragement. In his kickoff message, conference

host Brent Bailey urged singles not to worry about their

future. “God’s not done with you yet!” Brent said. “God has

not put you out to pasture. He has a future that you have yet

to experience. . . . From where you are, dream and see a future

of what you were born to be.”

Guest speaker Christine Martin exhorted, “Enjoy your singlehood

now on the way to where you’re going.” Guest speaker Dave Martin

told the group, “Bring the best ‘you’ to all relationships.” Workshops

concentrated on helping singles to be whole and encouraged them to

keep their focus on God.

Throughout the late-March weekend, the attendees also had a blast at

the different social mixers—whether singing karaoke at the Ice Cream

Social or making new friends at the Appetizer Mixer. And Desperation

Band led the group in passionate worship. One thing was certain:

everyone left uplifted, refreshed, and excited about their future.

How can I make “me” better?’ One way is to take responsibility for yourself. It’s always easy to blame other people for your problems. Take responsibility for yourself!”

Have you ever experienced discouragement? I am sure that all of us would say, “Most assuredly yes—many times.” The days in which we live have certainly intensified the opportunity to become discouraged.

Discouragement will steal your joy, peace, and contentment. It will cause you to begin to fall into despair, self-pity, and depression. Sometimes discouragement can be so strong that you don’t even want to go on living.

It is important that in these last days we heed the admonition of the Scriptures. Hebrews 10:23–25 (NLT) says, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”

I want to concentrate on the words “encourage one another” in this scripture. Encouragement is a powerful force. A word of encouragement will cause someone to excel where they have failed. The high school that I graduated from had many successful football teams. However, it seemed that suddenly the team began to lose. A coach was hired to rejuvenate that team. He happened to attend my father’s church. The team he inherited had little talent. They were smaller in stature and weight than most of their opponents. It appeared that this was going to be a very long football season for Garland High School.

However, this coach began to encourage the team. He told them that they were winners and not losers. He began to instill in them confidence in their ability. As he spoke encouraging words to that team, they began to respond positively to his expectations. That year, in spite of their lack of natural talent, they won the state championship in their division. Why? Simply because someone cared enough about a group of boys to encourage them to reach for a goal far beyond their ability.

One of the deepest needs in all of us is to be appreciated and encouraged. An usher in our church has been there since it began. When he sees someone, the first words out of his mouth are, “I appreciate you!” He spreads encouragement to many members at every service.

The Apostle Paul admonished us, “Encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. Dear brothers and sisters, honor those who are your leaders in the Lord’s work. They work hard among you and give you spiritual guidance. Show them great respect and wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other. Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone. See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people” (1 Thess. 5:11–15 NLT).

One of the greatest encouragers in the Bible was Barnabas. Acts 4:36 (NLT) says, “There was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means ‘Son of Encouragement’). He was from the tribe of Levi and came from the island of Cyprus.” His name matched his

character. Acts 11:22–24 (NLT) tells us, “When the church at Jerusalem heard what had happened, they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw this evidence of God’s blessing, he was filled with joy, and he encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord. Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord.”

We need more Barnabases in the church today. Barnabas overlooked the faults in others. He was caring and compassionate, willing to give others another chance when they failed. Barnabas understood that we all fail from time to time. We all need a little help along the way.

Let me ask you a thought-provoking question: Are you a Barnabas? Are you willing to help others and patiently work with them? Are you willing to forgive and give them a second chance?

Make an effort every day to speak words of encouragement to those with whom you come in contact. It takes little time or effort to say, “You did a good job.” A simple “thank you” or

“I appreciate you” goes a long way in lifting someone’s spirits. The greatest ministry we can have is to reach down and lift people up.

Amnesia is a medical condition that leaves a person with a temporary or permanent loss of memory. People who get amnesia forget important things about themselves, their past experiences, and even people that they once knew. Did you know that there was a whole group of people in the Bible that got SPIRITUAL AMNESIA? Read these por-tions of scripture from Psalm 106 and you will see what we mean!

Our fathers in Egypt did not understand Your won-ders; They did not remember the multitude of Your mercies, But rebelled by the sea—the Red Sea. . . . He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it dried up; So He led them through the depths. . . . He saved them from the hand of him who hated them. . . . The waters covered their enemies. . . . Then they believed His words; They sang His praise. They soon forgot His works; They did not wait for His counsel. . . . They made a calf in Horeb, And wor-shiped the molded image. . . . They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt (vv. 7, 9–13, 19, 21 NKJV).

The one main problem we find in this story about the Isra-elites is that they forgot too many things. They forgot God’s mercies, His works, and His salvation. They had SPIRITUAL AMNESIA! So, how can you prevent this spiritual problem? Remind yourself daily of God’s blessings in your life and recount all of the things that He has done for you and you will never get SPIRITUAL AMNESIA!
