Transcripts
Transcript Requests
Transcripts are for colleges, scholarships, and for you to review your
grades, classes, etc.
You may pick up an official copy of the transcript or you may request a
copy to be mailed to a college, or for a scholarship.
The STUDENT must sign a form to request a transcript. (Not the
parent/guardian)
Transcript requests are available in the Registrar’s Office.
A transcript request will be completed within 3 days. You can pick it or
give us an address and we will mail it for you.

College Entrance Testing
Types of Testing:
ACT – offered here the Spring – On Campus Testing – Test Prep: http://www.act.org/aap/pdf/Preparing-for-the-ACT.pdf
SAT – Test Format changed in Spring 2016 – Study Guide Available on www.kahnacademy.org create an account and training is tailored to your needs based on practice testing. This is more in alignment with the ACT and you are no longer penalized for missed or incorrect answers.
TSI – for more info - https://www.kilgore.edu/future-students/student-services/testing-services/testing-center-longview working to do TSI testing at NDHS, but not set up yet.

Examples:
SFASU – 23 on ACT with 19 in Math and English or , or SAT, CR+CM = 1070 with 500 on Math and Reading
KC – TSI Test – Reading 351, Writing 5 on Essay or 4 on Essay with score of 363 in Reading, Math 350 or ACT/SAT – Same as SFASU

Touring A College Choose a College to Tour
Search Online or Call to Set Up the Tour
Some have a form online to complete and apply for the tour date (a scheduled tour lets the college
set the tour according to your needs and may allow you to visit more specific parts of the college
such as your program)
Some have a drop in policy (a drop in tour may not let you ask as many questions as you have or see
specific parts of the college, and you could be with many other people that day)
College Days – 2 to use for your junior year
Request for a College Day Form – available in the Registrar’s Office
Parent Signature Required (regardless of student age) 3 days in advance of the absence
You must return to form to be counted present for the college tour absence.
Applying to College
Deadlines – Check with your school to learn to deadline date
Competitive University –
December 1st of your Senior Year – Initially Looking at High School Work from 9th – 11th Grades – You will submit a new transcript at the end of the 1st Semester Senior Year and the After Graduation
Program Admissions is Different than college Admission
Texas A&M Example:
College of Engineering – admits 25,000 students total for the Bachelor’s Degree (Includes all students not just freshmen entering for the first time)
It is First Come-First Served
If you wait to apply to A&M until December 1st –the College of Engineering May be FULL!!!
You may get accepted to Texas A&M, but not into Engineering
Semi-Competitive – December 1st of your Senior Year (Same example applies as for A&M)
Open Enrollment – Any time before August of the Fall Semester

Essays – specifically required – you can look at the topics now and start writing your essays to have them ready for when your application opens next year.

The Scholarship Deadline is Different than the Application Deadline
To Be Eligible for THAT College’s Scholarships – You must fill out the separate application and by the deadline date.

College Vocabulary
Credit Hour
Unit of measuring educational CREDIT, usually based on the number of
classroom hours per week throughout a term. Students are
awarded credit for classes on the basis of the Carnegie unit. This defines
a semester unit of credit as equal to a minimum of three hours of work
per week for a semester.
Courses with Lab Hours – usually add 1 hour for the lab class (Science
Lab)
Example: SFASU – BBA Degree 120 Hours
Core Curriculum (English, Speech, FA, History, etc) – 42 Hours
Business Admin Curriculum – 78 Hours
Letters of Recommendation
Students Need at Least 3 Letters of Recommendation
Each Letter Should Have a Different Focus
Example: Leadership, Teamwork, Work Ethic
Ask Your Prospective Letter Writer in WRITING
State the purpose of his or her letter (for college app, scholarship, or other)
State the date you need the letter (be specific: Please have the letter ready
for me by November 7th)
State your gratitude (Thank you in advance for writing this letter and helping
me get into SFASU)
Enclose a copy of your resume or Achievements and Recognitions
Ask for a generic letter and/ or several copies of the same letter with an
original signature on each letter.
