The Grief Group meets on the first and third Tuesday at 7:00 pm in the Sessions room. If you are grieving a loss, don’t try to do it alone. Share your feelings with others as we “walk” together through the wilderness of grief. At the end of our journey together, may we be able to experience the wonderful memories we have of those we have lost. If you have any questions, contact Judy Shotts at 919-366-0849 or [email protected].

A Note from the Session
At the June Session meeting, we began the process of conducting a congregation-wide survey by hir-ing Holy Cow Consulting, Inc. We also took action to renew Debbie’s contract for another year or
until we have identified our next installed pastor. Holy Cow Consulting is a firm who works with
organizations, many of them churches, to gather data and interpret that data as organizations are go-
ing through transition and envisioning their future. This survey process will begin when you receive a letter in September detailing the process. At the conclusion of this survey process, we will have
completed the Mission Study which the Presbytery of New Hope requires. All of the information
which we have gathered over this past year – since we hired Debbie to be our Interim Pastor – will be
included in the Mission Study Report which will be made available to you once the presbytery ap-
proves it. The Mission Study will guide our Session and the Pastor Nominating Committee (the Pas-tor Search Committee) in completing the Ministry Information Form used in the search for our next
installed pastor. The Presbytery of New Hope requires that the Mission Study be completed and ap-
proved before a congregation can elect a Pastor Nominating Committee. This is a change from the
last time this congregation went through a transition in pastoral leadership. We began this process of searching for a new pastor when we began this mission study process a year ago when we hired Deb-
bie as our Transitional/Interim Pastor. Once the presbytery has approved the Mission Study, the
Nominating Committee will have the green light to present a slate of names to serve on the Pastor
Nominating Committee, for election by the congregation. If you have questions/concerns about this process, please contact Debbie or Fred Lanzi, as Clerk of Session.

Choir Chatter
Last month, I wrote about the Covenant Five, but named only four original choir members. I begin this month with a correction. Patty Hart was the on-ly soprano, and I’m sorry to have left her name out last month. All of the five, Patty and Reuben Hart, Faye Kelley, Faye Raybon, and Hulon Perry, were essential in order for you to hear the sound you do today.
Let’s move on to August, which is always a busy month for us. We will be on choir tour. On Au-gust 19th we’ll be leading worship at First Presbyteri-an Church in Washington, NC. The following Sun-day, August 26th, is Choir Sunday here at Covenant. We’ll lead worship with our tour music. That even-ing, we’ll have dinner together and include those of you who are interested in joining our group. The evening provides the chance for those considering joining to spend time with current members, have
free dinner, and hear the demo of the Christmas can-tata. Attending does not mean that you are commit-ting. You’ll see sign-up sheets in the sanctuary building and in the fellow-ship hall. If you plan to at-tend, please sign up so that we can be sure to have enough food.
Remember, that if dogs howl and cats run under the bed when you sing, we need good listeners, too.
See you in church, Wanda
GIFT CARDS: Thank you for supporting our church by purchasing gift cards through Covenant! We continue to raise almost $4000 per year and that has really helped the budget. Food Lion, Lowes and Walmart are available in the Narthex before and after service. There are now over 700 retailers who give a percentage to Covenant –
nothing out of pocket!! Order on Sunday and have your gift card the following Sunday.
Please think about paying for your groceries, prescriptions, gas, gifts, household items, restaurants, travel, etc.
using gift cards. For more information, please call Susan Darby at 919-605-5792 or David Meyers at 919-524
-0244 or email [email protected].

Vacation Bible School was a success!! We had a total of 33 children as they took a journey rampag-ing through the river with God. I wish to thank eve-ry parent and grandparent who brought their chil-dren. I especially wish to thank all those who helped by donating items we needed, those who taught in the stations (Heather Wolfgang, Jennifer Cuthrell, Pam Hardee, Steve Buus, and Marc Johnson), those who helped with all the meals, those who cooked the food (especially Chris Wolfgang who grilled the chicken), our music leader (Mary Selke), our pre-senter and puppeteer (Leann and Megan Dale). A special thank you to Joe and June Bowman, Norm Moak, Paula Perry, Carol Rich, Billy Cuthrell, Lin-da Hess, Leanne Stanton, Robin Harris, Kristen Tay-lor, Alli Buus, Mike Tomasik, and Pastor Debbie: all of these people brought special gifts and talents to make VBS very successful. Most of all, I thank God for all of these people and His abiding love and direction.

Carver Elementary Backpack Buddy Program -
Don’t forget our weekend meals for Carver kids. We
need hearty soups, vegetables, peanut butter and fruit.
There is a designated bin in the Narthex and lists with
suggested items on the bulletin boards.
The Food Pantry is an on-going project supplying
bags of groceries to needy families in our area.
Non-perishable foods are welcome.
Emphasis for August: Snack Packs for kids out of
school for Summer, all canned fruits and vegetables,
soups, cans and dry, powder milk, salt, pepper, hygiene
items, bar soap, shampoo (small bottles), toothpaste
and tooth brushes, feminine hygiene items, diapers
(newborn, size 1, 2, 3).
Don’t forget that the fourth Sunday of the month
we receive Pennies for Hunger during worship.
Bring your food for the Back Pack Buddies
and Food Pantry on Communion Sundays.
When we gather to celebrate the Lord’s Supper on
the second Sunday of each month, we recognize
God’s amazing gift of Jesus Christ to the world and
the incredible sacrificial gift Jesus made for us. The
table of the Lord’s Supper is a table of incredible love
and grace shared for us all. But we are called to be
not only receivers of the gift, but givers of the gift.
What better way to share than to bring our food to the
table for the local food pantry and Back Pack Bud-
dies. Did you know that we provide bags of food to
some 30 plus families with children from Carver Ele-
mentary School which will enable them to put food on
their tables for the weekend? We are inviting you to
bring your food - canned vegetables, fruit cups, soups,
etc., - Communion Sundays. The children will collect
your food during the Conversation with the Children -
just like they do with their Pennies for Hunger - and
then place the food in the baskets at the communion
table, reminding us that we are called to be not only
receivers of God’s grace, but givers. We will continue
to gladly receive your food any time, in the boxes in
the narthex. Just remember to bring a can or two on
communion Sundays as well! Many thanks!
Oliver House residents enjoy reading maga-
zines. If you have old magazines that you would
like to donate to the Oliver House, place them by
the food pantry box in the narthex and someone
will deliver them.
