MathematicsMrs. OkimotoMr. Dewhirst
● Your child will be in a Math course that will focus on Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and the General Learner Outcomes.
● Throughout the Go Math! Program, real-world examples and mathematical modeling apply mathematics to other disciplines and real world contexts such as science and business. Real-world situations are a focus of Go Math! and are found throughout the program.
We will be using both the online and hardcopy textbook.
Mathematics Curriculum
As part of the Common Core Standards for Mathematics, there are a set of 8 Mathematical Practices. These practices describe the abilities and skills all students should develop as they study mathematics.
Example of weekly Math Calendar found in google classroom.
Students will be graded on the following:- Daily Assignments (Classwork/Homework)- Quizzes/Tests- Constructed Responses
Students should check the Infinite Campus Student Portal for their current class grade and missing assignments.

Who’s them teachers??
What We’re Learning? What does it mean to be alive?
Overarching Question
We will begin to answer that question by looking inside of ourselves--at our cells! Could those microscopic things really be living?? Are they all the same, or different? And, what’s their purpose?
After, we will broaden our scope and look at how organisms have adapted and evolved over time. And what in the world does it mean to have a “favorable” trait?
Next, we will dig deeper into those cells and look at genetic material, or DNA. What can DNA tells us about ourselves? How much DNA do we share with a banana, or a chicken? And what does that mean?
We will finish with ecosystems--looking at how organisms interact with each other AND with non-living factors. We will see the effects of removing, or adding new living and non-living factors into an ecosystem
How We’ll Learn★ Through individual and group projects that allow for
student creativity and open to student’s interest★ By building a solid footing in academic research★ Through gaining confidence in public speaking by
frequently presenting in front of the class★ And most importantly, we will encourage our natural
curiosity by enjoying the class and therefore the subject material
What Parents Should Know★ ALL work will be posted in Google Classroom. So, if your
child ever has to miss class, for whatever reason, their work will be posted and available to them.
★ You, the parent, can sign up for email updates from Google Classroom. These updates would be sent out weekly stating what your child has due and what they are missing
★ The most up-to-date grades will ALWAYS be in Google Classroom, not Infinite Campus.
★ We, Mrs. O. & Mr. Joshua are stoked to have your child and would love to hear from you if you have any questions or concerns. Contact information is on first slide as well as on our syllabus.

Grading
Tracking your Grade
For example: 10 points per assignment
x 30 assignments = 300 points for the quarter
If a student earns….290 point earned / 300 total points=
96% - A
How your grade will be calculated.
A = 100% - 90%B = 89% - 80%C = 79% - 70%D = 69% - 60%F = 59% - 0%
Grading Scale
You may track your grade in the Google Classroom. Your grade will be calculated using a point system.
