KE2 Remote CommunicationAccessing Your KE2 Evaporator Efficiency Controller Via the Internet
Quick Start Q.5.8 January 2012Page 2
IntroductionThe KE2 Evaporator Efficiency controller has the native capabil-ity to provide remote access to the information provided in the web pages. When a single controller is connected to the KE2 Router, a technique known as port forwarding is used to allow a remote computer to access the KE2 Evap.
The KE2 Router must be directly connected to the internet connection. If there is another router between the KE2 Router and the internet, additional port forwarding will be required. Detailed instructions are not available for every router on the market due to the large number available.
There are two techniques that will be covered in this section. The first is to access a single controller that is connected to the KE2 Router and the second is to access multiple controllers.
Port forwarding must be setup onsite. A laptop or PC should be used to connect to the KE2 Router. Connecting to the router can be done either by cable (from controller to yellow port) or wirelessly (selecting the KE2 Router from wireless connection list).
1 Connect to the router by en-tering the router IP address: 10.10.255.254
2 Click on the NAT/QoS tab at the top of the screen.
2a By default, the router has pass-word protection.
Enter the defaults.

Note: You will need to know your external IP address, and have the KE2 Router connected to a modem, prior to establish-ing remote communication as described in the following pages.

5 Leave the Source Net blank. Change Port from to 80.
6 IP Address must be set to match the KE2 Evaporator Controller on this system. This is found on the white sticker on the back of the controller.
If the IP was changed by the user, the current IP address should be used. This can be verified by checking the IP address under the Variables menu of the controller.
6a Type the current IP address into the IP Address field.

Remote Access – Multiple Controllers
When multiple controllers are installed in a single location, port forwarding is not the desired method. Instead, the best method to access the information is to use a VPN (Virtual Private Network). In larger environments, a VPN should already be present.
When logged on to a VPN, the user is put on the local network. This allows the IP address of the controller to be used to access the information. The IP address of each controller is either the factory assigned number, or the IP address assigned by the local IT department.
