Duo SecurityTwo-Factor Authentication for VPN Users

Step 1: Check Inbox

Step 2: Click the link

Step 3: Click ‘Start setup’ button

Step 4: Select type of device

For this tutorial, we are selecting mobile phone.

Step 5: Enter your mobile number

Enter your mobile number without the zero and select continue.

Step 6: Validate and check the box

Validate your number, check the box, and select continue.

Step 7: Select your device OS

Select which type of device you are using and select continue.

For this tutorial, we are selecting ’iPhone’.

Step 8: Install the mobile application

Or go through the steps below:

Click on App Store. (For this tutorial, we are using an Apple iPhone)

Step 10: Search for the app

Click on Search and then click on the Search Bar.

Step 11: Search Duo app

Type in ’duo’ and select the option ‘duo mobile’.

Step 12: Select the right application

Download the application with the same icon displayed as in the image seen on the left.

Step 13: Open the application

Once the app has completed downloading, open it.

It will download onto the first available slot in your home-screens; this is typically the last home-screen for most users.

Step 14: Add Account

Once the app is open, select ‘Add Account’ at the bottom of the screen.

Step 15: Allow Access to Camera

Click ’OK’ to allow application to access your camera so that you can scan the QR code.

Step 16: Getting QR Code

Go back to your computer and select ‘I have Duo Mobile installed’.

Step 17 (Part 1): Scanning the Code

Point your phone at the screen and it will see the QR Code and activate. Then select ‘Continue’.

Step 17 (Part 2): Scanning the Code

Point the phone at the QR Code and it will automatically scan and begin the activation process.

Step 18: Activation Screen on Phone

Once activated you will see ‘KAUST VPN Account’.

Step 19: Finalizing Activation

Once activated, QR box will show a green check mark. Select ’Continue’.

Step 20: Finalizing Enrollment

Once completed, you will see the screen on the right informing you that the enrollment was successful.

Step 21: Using the Application

As done before, open up the AnyConnect VPN Client.

Connect to: vpn.kaust.edu.sa

Step 23: Selecting your groupSelect your group:

• For Staff: • Staff-2FA

• For Contractors: • Contractor-Consultant-2FA

• For External Users: • External-Users-2FA

• For Faculty Researcher: • Faculty-Researcher-2FA

• For Offsite: • Offsite-2FA

• For Students: • Students-2FA

Step 24: Enter your credentials

Enter your credentials. You will notice the item ‘Second Password’. This the two-factor authentication.

Step 25: Getting the second password

Go back to your device and click on the green key.

Step 26: Second passwordOnce the green key is clicked, a six digit numeric sequence will appear. You will type this into the box on your computer for ‘Second Password’.

Note: The digits will be different and randomly generate when you click the green key and will generate a new one every 60 seconds.

Do NOT use the number seen in the image. This is only for the tutorial’s sake.

Step 27: Using Two-Factor Authentication

Enter the six digit numeric sequence from your mobile and select the ‘OK’ button.
