Ms Paine will be away this week. She has taken Carer’s leave to look after her Dad who is
unwell and to support her Mum.
Mrs Barrie, Ms Wilson and Miss Charlton will be relieving as Principal. Please contact us if there
is anything you need.
On Monday our students and staff enjoyed the talk
with Barbara Bonfield and her Guide Dog Sam. We
all learnt about Guide Dog etiquette, how Guide
Dogs are trained, white canes and Guide Dog
services. Our school leaders and Mrs Barrie also had
the opportunity to socialise and play with Sam out
of her harness. We raised $84.40 to be donated to
the Guide Dog Association.
Debating
Our debaters presented strong arguments in their debate about the environment with Mt
Victoria Public School on Monday and gained some valuable experience. Thanks to Ms Wilson
and well done to our team: Dominic, Esther, Riley and Sofia.
A Message from KidsMatter Teach children helpful self-talk.
Instead of saying to themselves “I can’t do this”.
Encourage them to say, “I’ll give it a go”.
Wishing all Mum’s, Aunties & Grandmas a very Happy Mother’s Day.
Narelle Barrie

Our School Gardening Club meets at lunchtime on Mondays and is open to anyone who enjoys helping out in the garden. This week we planted some bulbs around our special apple tree in the kitchen garden. A big thank you to Cate Paterson for the bulbs. We can’t wait to see the flowers in Spring!
On Monday 2nd May Barbara and her guide Dog Samara came to our school.
Barbara shared her stories and knowledge with us and answered our questions
about what it’s like to be vision impaired and many things about Guide Dogs.
After the whole school assembly the school leaders got to meet Barbara and Sam
in person. She showed us some of the things she needs to use as a vision impaired
person. One of the things she showed us was her note measure. Barbara would lay
the money note inside and bend it over the top. That way she could feel the braille
numbers and how long it is.
We really enjoyed having Barbara here.

school from 2.55 until 3.30. The school receives a percentage of all sales which enables us to buy
resources for the school library.

Student’s orders have to be completed by the 17th May.
Thank You.

I Need Your Help…….
Hi, My name is Terry.. I sent my gang of gnomes to Katoomba for some sightseeing and they are now missing in action. I have been informed that they might be hiding out in the Katoomba School Grounds. They hate being indoors, so they will be outside somewhere. Each class needs to help find one gnome and then they can give him a fresh lick of paint and find him a nice spot in your class plot in the Kitchen Garden. Remember one gnome per class. Each week one gnome will need to be rescued. So, keep your eyes peeled and good hunting. Yours in gnominess Terry the Gnome
P&C News The next P&C meeting is Wednesday 11th May at 7.15pm in the staffroom. It’s a very relaxed and friendly vibe
and a great opportunity to hear from the Principal about what’s going on at the school. So even if you’re not a
“P&C type-person” come along - we’d love to see you! If you can’t make it on Wednesday evening, come along for
coffee on Friday morning after assembly with the Principal and P&C President to catch up on the goings-on.
Winter Magic It’s time to get creative and whip up an amazing centre piece for KPS entry in the Winter Magic Parade on 18th
June. The theme this year is “Where the Magic Things Are”. Let’s get together on Tuesday 10th May directly after
drop off at 9.10am in the hall. If you’d like to be involved but can’t make it next Tuesday, then ring Cate on
0487 899 469.
Hartley Harvest Fruit & Veg Boxes From next week onwards you can order local, pesticide-free fruit and veggie boxes from Hartley Harvest and they
will give $5 from every box ordered back to KPS!
Pick up an envelope from the front office counter, fill in the slip on the front and provide the correct change by
Monday afternoon. Boxes will be delivered to the canteen and can be picked up on Wednesday afternoons.
Boxes available include:
$25 fruit and veg box with half a dozen eggs

School Banking It’s been a great start to the school year, and every week we see the students putting in a
fantastic savings effort. That might be because of this year’s Grand
Prize: a VIP tour of Australia Zoo to meet Robert and Bindi Irwin!
Many of our true blue Outback Savers are well on their way to
reaching their 15 deposits by the end of Term 3, which will give them
an automatic entry into the Grand Prize competition.
Aside from the Grand Prize, two new reward items are available this
term. After making 10 school banking deposits, students can redeem
the Mud Splat Handball or the Outback Pat Bag Tag!
