Next Term the focus for the Year 7 cohort will be goal setting for our personal best in our academic achievements. I will be work-ing closely with identified students to set achievable goals. Debating and Public
Speaking Workshop Debating and public speaking are essential abilities which serve to develop confidence and self esteem. Last weekend selected stu-dents from Katherine High School got an op-portunity to participate in a two-day debating and public speaking workshop run by the Northern Territory Debating Union. The work-shop was run by debating coach Zac Lurje and a number of senior debating students who had come down with him from Darwin. The students from Katherine High School who participated were Phoebe Hooper, Lacey Meek, Don Armstrong, Sandra Jestin, Alina Biju, Ellen Monsi and Aleesha Biju. During the two days that students were in-volved in specific practices and trials added to our conviction about public speaking and de-bating. We had an opportunity to experience the new types of debating, such as the ‘point of information’ style of debating, as well as the roles of first speaker, second speaker, third speaker and the chairperson. Debating is a valuable tool that can aid us in our public, private and future lives. On behalf of the students who participated, we would like to thank Mr. Duggan, Katherine High School and the NT Debating Union team for their help and support to make this work-shop successful. Year 8 What a Term! Over the last couple of weeks the Year 8s have enjoyed a pancake breakfast, egg drops and have been busy finishing off their assignments. The Year 8 Camp to Kununurra will take place in Term 2. Thirty Year 8 students will be selected to attend this adventurous camp full of horse riding, canoe-ing, abseiling and much more. Students wish-ing to attend the Camp must demonstrate good behaviour and 85% attendance. Have a safe Easter.

Cup Cake Fun with Year 7
Home Economics On Friday March 27th the Grade 7 Home Economics class made some fun cup-cakes to celebrate a good term’s work and of course- Easter! As part of a challenge, the students made their own vanilla cup -cakes and decorated them with butter icing in a rainbow of col-ours, Easter eggs, fluffy chickens and choc-olate noodle nests. The results were out-standing and I decided to award the best cake to Anthony Mullet who impressed me with his attention to detail and excellent presentation skills. Haylie McDonald and Monte Cattermole were a close second and third. Well done Grade 7 on a great 1st Term in the kitchen! Mrs McMahon Home Economics Teacher
