Order of the
Magnolia In 2008, the “Order of the
Magnolia” was established by the
mothers and guardians of the
Kappa Alpha Order, Epsilon Delta
Chapter located in College Station,
Texas. Our purpose is to promote
friendships and communication
among the families of the members of Kappa Alpha Order
fraternity, Epsilon Delta Chapter. We want to support and
assist with fraternal events that benefit and promote the well-
being of the young men of the KA Epsilon Delta Chapter
throughout their college years at Texas A&M University.
The flowers of the Order are the crimson rose and the
magnolia blossom.
The crimson rose represents masculine might and the white
magnolia blossom represents purity. The flowers of the Order and a ribbon featuring the Order’s
motto adorn the bottom of the crest.
The magnolia flower has been associated with beauty and
perseverance, as well as dignity and nobility. The symbolic
meaning of the flower species has been passed down from
generation to generation and arose from fables and legends
connected to the flower. The magnolia has also been said to
symbolize sweetness and a love for nature.

Letter from the President Howdy!
Welcome to the Order of the Magnolia. What an honor it is to serve as President
of this unique organization! The Order of the Magnolia was formed to act as a sup-
port group for the Epsilon Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at Texas A & M,
and in the time that I have been involved with this delightful organization, I have
developed a deep appreciation for the value of this group. Working together to
support the young men of KA provides the opportunity to develop new acquaint-
ances and deepen old ones, all the while enjoying events with our sons in Aggieland.
The Epsilon Delta chapter of Kappa Alpha Order is a top fraternity at Texas A &
M. In the past year alone they have achieved the following:
- Largest fraternity presence on the Intrafraternal Council (IFC) with 3 positions,
including President, Public Relations, and Director of Marketing
- Largest fraternity presence on the Student Senate with 4 KA Senators
- Largest fraternity presence on the Aggie Greek 2013 Spring Break Service Trip
- An impressive overall GPA, consistently averaging at or near 3.0
Congratulations that your son has made the decision to join the brotherhood of
such an accomplished group! By extension, with involvement in the Magnolias, you
will have many opportunities to get to know your son’s fraternity brothers and their
families.
The Order of the Magnolia provides support to the KAs through the following
events:
- Tailgates
- Fall and Spring Pledge Induction family luncheons
- KA Member/Family Directory publication and distribution
- Mother/Son weekend
- Fall and Spring Scholarship Dinner (recognizes KAs earning a 3.0 or better GPA
the previous semester)
- Parent Weekend dinner and auction (benefits the Chapter’s recruiting and capital
campaign)
- Improvements to the Chapter house / grounds
- Special requests or unplanned needs of the Chapter
I am looking forward to meeting all of our new members, and to a wonderful year of
great times spent together and with our KA Aggies!

National and Chapter Philanthropies
Muscular Dystrophy The national Kappa Alpha Order philanthropy is the Mus-
cular Dystrophy Association. Every KA Chapter is expected
to make contributions and collectively raise approximately
$130,000 to $150,000 annually. Over the past 30 years,
more than $2.5 million has been raised for the MDA. Last
year Epsilon Delta Chapter donated $5,000.
The Big Event Kappa Alpha Order participates in Texas A&M University’s
Big Event each year. The Big Event is the largest, one-day,
student-run service project in the nation where Aggies come
together to say “Thank You” to the residents of Bryan and
College Station. In the past, students have painted, raked,
and cleaned their way into the hearts of community mem-
bers, completing The Big Event’s mission of saying “Thank
You” for all the support Texas A&M receives from its sur-
rounding community year round.
Greek Life Spring Break Mission Trip Logan Campbell started Greek Life Spring Mission Trip
while President of the Intrafraternity Council. The 2013
Greek Life Spring Break Mission Trip had over 100 Aggie
Greeks. They traveled to La Place, Louisiana to help with
the reconstruction after Hurrican Isaac. KAs had more
members than any fraternity serve on this unforgettable and
gratifying Spring break trip.

KA Southern Shoot Out
In 2005, after the tragic death of J. Luke Patton, a
distinguished student and beloved member of Kappa Alpha
Order, the first annual “Southern Shoot Out” Sporting Clays
Tournament was organized. The purpose at that time was to
endow a $25,000. Kappa Alpha Order Education Foundation
benefiting the Epsilon Delta Chapter and its members. The
name of the national endowment is the Luke Patton Memorial
Scholarship fund.
With gratitude, Epsilon Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order
reports that as of 2009, the scholarship fund has been fully
endowed. After the initial waiting period of twelve months, the
fund has fully matured. Applications and information about
this educational scholarship can be obtained through the
national office at www.kaoef.org. The Chapter will continue to
donate some of the proceeds from the “Southern Shoot Out”
to the scholarship fund.
The success of this signature fundraiser, the “Southern Shoot
Out”, has allowed the Chapter to raise money for the National
Kappa Alpha Order's chosen philanthropy, the Muscular
Dystrophy Association (MDA).
This annual fundraiser takes place in College Station each year
during Parent’s weekend. This is a very popular event and is
open to all.

Kappa Alpha Order
Educational Foundation
Established in 1982, the national Kappa Alpha Order
Educational Foundation (KAOEF) is a 501(c)(3) charitable
organization. The KAOEF provides grants for educational
programs of the fraternity, such as the Number I's
Leadership Institute and Province Councils, and provides
scholarships to deserving graduate and undergraduate
members. The KAOEF funds these programs with
donations contributed by KA alumni. The KAOEF asks
alumni to contribute to KA annually, and it is through their
generosity that these programs, which benefit our
undergraduate brothers, are supported.
Emerging Leaders Academy
The Emerging Leaders Academy provides our future leaders
the opportunity to increase their knowledge about basic
chapter operations, leadership, and how to implement a
positive change in their chapter. Mathew Mealey attended
the Academy in the summer of 2011.
