Sport is an important part of the school’s fitness and social skills development program for students, and parents are encouraged to support our school sport program, by ensuring that their child participates. Parents are reminded that lateness to school and class significantly interferes with the learning opportunities of students, and any lateness that cannot be satisfactorily explained will be treated as truancy. Coles Double Vouchers Kanahooka High School is participating in the Coles Sport for Schools program for 2012. The collection box is located in the Front Office at school.

Coles are giving you double vouchers until 14 August,

which means you get 2 vouchers for every $10 you spend at

any Coles, Bi-Lo or Pick ‘n’ Pay stores or at Coles Online.

So come on Kanahooka High School staff, students and

families.

Get behind your school and collect those extra vouchers!

Congratulation to Year 10 for their performance at the Job Interview Day. Once again employers were impressed by the seriousness with which many of our students approached the task. Most students were polite, punctual and well presented.

The best praise was offered to those students who brought in portfolios that included work samples, reports and references as well as a thorough resume. All students received feedback on how they could improve next time.

Well done Year 10!

Ms Phelan, Careers Adviser/VET and TVET Co-ordinator

Go Green! School Tree Day Mrs Lowis, Mr Jones, Mr Rostron and 13 students of both the Environmental and Koori group joined forces and planted many beautiful, native, rare and some endangered plants for School Tree Day on Friday 27 July .

We planted 32 plants that were donated by Wollongong City Council. When Mrs Lowis was questioned on how well we had done, she said she was very proud. We even received a special visit from Anna Watson, MP for

Shellharbour. Kaitlyn Kelly & Tara Jones

Vet Hospitality Work Placement Vocational Educational Training students went out to work placement in Week 3 to

gain industry experience. All students who participated gained many valuable skills and experiences in a variety of settings.

New friendships were made and students had a taste of working in an industry that provides

many employment opportunities in our local area.

A few students enjoyed their experience so much that it has helped them to make firm decisions in pursuing a career in Hospitality. I would like to thank all the workplaces that take on our students and allow them an opportunity to develop and build on the skills they learn in the classroom.

Ms Evitt

Year 12 Hot Chocolate and Cake Stall On Tuesday 31 July, Year 12 held a hot chocolate and cake stall. As always we had a wonderful group of students volunteer

their time and smiles.

The hot chocolate was a nice treat to warm up with on such a cold day. The yummy cakes were a hit with everyone.

Along with all of Year 12, I would like to extend our gratitude to all families and staff members that helped out to make this so successful.

The proceeds of our fund raising will go towards the Year 12 traditional gift to the school.

Ms Abarcia - Year Adviser
