Principals Report Quality Work Students of 3/4L have been creating some amazing persuasive texts. Phoenix B, Lulu S and James B have convinced us that every family needs a pet dog. Or, maybe we should get a pet chicken, like Indah B is persuading us?! William T s piece not only persuades us that the USA needs a new president, it is also extremely entertaining! Eamon G and Grace D are the Tiger King and Queen of persuasive writing, convincing their audience that we shouldnt hunt wild animals or treat them inhumanely. Max McC will have Mrs Faasisila on his side, where he is trying to persuade our school to have a KPS Basketball Competition! And, Sammy C and Kelan R have successfully used the challenging technique of show, dont tellin their sizzling starts. The entire class can be extremely proud of their humongous efforts in writing this term! Over the last week 3/4L have also been learning about and celebrating Reconciliation Week. In This Togetheris this year's theme and 3/4L have been creating a collaborative mural of themselves. It displays their different personalities and cultures. And, although we are all different, it shows how we can work harmoniously together. This term, students in 4/5K have been learning to write persuasive texts using the Seven Steps to Writing Success. This week, the focus has been on writing a tightening tension paragraph - the strong 'crescendo' before the ending, which changes the readersviews forever! Students have been learning how to use a range of persuasive devices in their writing to fully hook, engage and persuade our readers. In drama this term, students in 4/5K have been exploring the wonderful world of puppets! This week they designed their own paper bag puppets and made them come to life using a range of the dramatic elements. Application for opportunity class placement in Year 5 in 2021 Parents of Year 4 students are invited to apply for opportunity class placement for Year 5 entry in 2021. Application for Year 5 entry to an opportunity class in 2021 opened on Tuesday 9 June 2020 and closes on Friday 26 June 2020. Parents and carers will be to apply at that time from the website https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5 . Parents seeking opportunity class placement for students in 2021 will be able to apply for up to two schools of their choice. Parents are strongly encouraged to give careful consideration to the time taken and modes of transport involved when choosing a school with an opportunity class. If you are considering applying for opportunity class placement for Year 5 entry in 2021 for your child please complete the Intention to Apply note that was sent home last term and return to the front office by Friday 5th June. Late applications will not be accepted. Parent Portal Each family should have received an email inviting then to register for the new Parent Portal. You can access the Parent Portal from the school website or download the Sentral for Parents app straight to your mobile device. Once your registration has been approved, be sure to go back to the first email and use the Access Key to link your child/ren to your account. You will then be able to access information in relation to your child. It is important for all families to register, as Parent Teacher Interview bookings are to be made through the Parent Portal and Semester One Reports will be distributed to families through the Parent Portal. For further support, registering for the Parent Portal you may find this Youtube video helpful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuEV5QfQ0sQ Parent Portal App If you have already registered and connected your child/ren and would like to set up the app on your mobile device, you may only want to watch the above Youtube clip from 3.20 (Step 3). Otherwise, just go to the Apple App Store or Google Play Store (depending on your device) and download and install the Sentral for Parents app. When you select School, please select the Kahibah Public School that has the school’s address noted. Semester One Reports Kahibah PS acknowledges the teaching role that parents and carers have fulfilled in recent months and extend parents and carers with an invitation to contribute to the 2020 Semester One Report by providing a brief comment about your child and their experiences during the remote online learning model. It would only need to be 2 to 3 sentences in an area that you feel is noteworthy. It is purely optional however, given the unique circumstances that school communities have recently found themselves in, we thought parents and carers might appreciate an opportunity to contribute to the writing of their child's report. Your child will also have an opportunity to contribute to the writing of their own report. If you would like to provide some input, please provide your child’s teacher with your comment by Wednesday 3rd June, 2020. Parent Teacher Interviews Parent Teacher interviews are scheduled in Week 10, Monday 29th June to Friday 3rd July. Parents and carers will need to have registered with the new Parent Portal prior to being able to make a booking. Due to adult social distancing measures, the teachers are predominantly offering phone interviews, however other options are available upon request. Please log in to the Parent Portal and select an available time slot to meet with your child’s teacher to be able to discuss your child’s Semester One report and discuss goals moving forward. Any parents who have children who will turn five before the 31st July next year, and who live in our catchment area should enrol now by contacting the office. I cannot stress enough the importance for all parents to arrange enrolments as early as possible. School principals are required to submit anticipated enrolment numbers next term.
