how fickle is your foundation?wall street crash!! bank closures!!! fraud!! insurance companies take it all!! ingham under water!! townsville has 46 days of rain!! victoria bushfires still burning, 100’s dead!!

The news is grim. Australia has experienced natural disasters from one side of the country to the other and the world is in economic decline.Where is your hope? Is it based on the fickle foundation of what the world dictates?

I am challenged during these times to rise ABOVE and go BEYOND what the world is saying and in the face of adversity to say “If God is for me, who shall be against me.” I know that if my hope and trust are based on world economy, then

my future looks pretty bleak. It is in times like these, that we realise the balance of life is so fragile. It is now, as followers of the risen Lord Jesus Christ, that we need to stand firm in who we are in Christ. It is not a time to hide or be timid, but rather, like Joshua, we need to obey the command to be strong and courageous. This strength can only be found in the Lord. I would like to encourage each one of you to keep your eyes firmly focussed on the awesome love of Jesus by mediating on The Word of God daily and seeking first the Kingdom of God. He is our rock and our sure foundation. He is steadfast and unmovable, the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. It is only through Christ, in you, the hope of glory that you CAN go ABOVE and BEYOND.

I am excited about the future because God KNOWS it (Jer 29: 11) – you better believe it!!

king’s support

The news was filled with the devastation as fires swept through Victoria leaving death and loss in it’s path. We prayed, but we knew there was more. It was time to go Above and Beyond. It was time to put legs to our prayers.

We at King’s Christian Centre put out a call for help. The money came flowing in with heart felt generosity. We saw people who struggle to meet monthly commitments, going Above and Beyond to make further sacrifices in their giving. What an awesome joy to be able to hand over a cheque for $20 000 to the Bushfire Appeal.

But still there was more to be done. Ps Kindah was compelled to go further and so donated a few hundred copies of his book on grief to minister into the heart of those experiencing loss.

And still there was MORE to be done. Ps Mike Shambrook couldn’t ignore the call of God in his heart to go down to Victoria and help wherever he could. With the blessing of the leadership of King’s Mike’s call was well put to use in practical and pastoral ways.

The love of Jesus has been indelibly stamped into the lives of many and we continue to pray for the victims as they travel the journey of restoration and healing.

king’s ministry

simply sundayOur inaugural ‘Simply Sunday’ service on the 15th March was well attended. Held in the conference centre at The Chancellor Apartments, the service was a real hit with those who remembered an earlier time in their lives of great spiritual awakening. A handful of people attended upon seeing our Advertisement in the Bulletin.

At the first sound of the dulcet tones of David and Kirsty Humphrey tears began falling on the faces of those around about me. Tears that said “I’m home” as hearts and voices swelled in song to worship the Lord in Psalms, Hymns and spiritual songs.

Ps John Brown spoke from Psalm 1 - the ways of the righteous - with his usual sense of wit and well timed delivery of pertinent scripture.

The evening concluded with tea and coffee in the foyer and most guests stayed on for a wonderful time of fellowship.

the bristow family the bristow family has been part of the king’s christian centre for three years. chris & cheryl were married in 1996 and have three lovely children, wendy 12, michelle 10 and thomas 8, whom all attend king’s christian college.

Chris came to know the Lord Jesus in 1991 & completed his formal Ministry training at The Christian Heritage College, Brisbane( 1993-1995). Cheryl grew up in the Foursquare Gospel Church, her grandfather was a Pastor & one of the original pentecostal pioneers in the Philippines ordained by the founder of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Aimee Semple Mcpherson.

2006-2008 God asked this family to stand in the gap & help two burns victim. Ivan (burns victim) received 3rd degree burns to over 50% of his body. We saw the love of Jesus touch Ivan & his sister, Candy while they fellowshipped at King’s. (Both were saved during their stay). Chris & Cheryl were the primary care givers for Ivan, personally raising & organizing the payment of

over $715,000 AUS worth of operations & associated medical costs (www.yesvip.com).In January 2008, while still taking care of Ivan & Candy, the Bristow’s answered the call to help the Local Aboriginal Community of South East QLD & Northern NSW.

Chris said “I was awakened at around 1am & the Spirit of Jesus told me to go to the Muli Muli Aboriginal Community, NSW. I said, “No”. But after four nights without sleep I gave in & said, “Yes we will go, but if this is you God you will have to give us something that we can take to these people”.

chris said “i was awakened at around

1am & the spirit of Jesus told me to go to the muli muli aboriginal

community, nsw.

Page 11: K Scene issue 8

Since then we have been given thousands of dollars of new items to take to the communities. During 2008 God started to bring Aboriginal people to the Bristow family home. They fed & looked after an under 17 Aboriginal rugby team for six days with the help of the King’s community. Fed & housed 48 PNG women who called for help after they were left stranded at the Brisbane airport. Many other events took place such as: Titans Outreach at Woodenbong School, fed the whole school (408 meat pies), film days, helping aboriginal fire victims and guest speaking at many meetings.

This year, Chris has been asked by the traditional elders of the Bunjulung tribe (traditional land owners from Tweed Heads to Tabulam, NSW) to help set up a church in their community & hold services at a local Prison for young offenders.

debbie’s cup of coffeei have always loved to fellowship with friends, especially around a good cup of coffee.

My availability for Family, friends and of course for our Lord was of great importance to me. As time went on, a lot of women and friends returned to the workforce, I found myself having too much free time on my hands .Since I loved coffee and people I looked into the idea of having our own coffee store. Nearly 3 ½ years on, we have a second store also.

God is so good, not only has it helped me financially but has also given each of our sons employment. Scott is still in school and helps me in one of the stores while Corey manages the other store full time and Shayne helps out there around his uni timetable. Corey’s wife Karen, works in child care but is fast on her way to becoming a barista.

The journey thus far: We worked very hard to build the first store. There were many challenges and then we received news that the centre where the store is situated had gone into receivership (and still is). I stood firm believing that this store was from God, and

no matter what, He knew what was going on better than I. I can’t see my future but God does, and I choose to believe that He has a wonderful plan for my life, so no matter what I knew everything would turn out for good, even though it didn’t look like it through my eyes. After an application for a second store was turned down, I wrestled with the fact that maybe I was kidding myself – maybe I should still be at home - maybe God didn’t really want me working outside the walls of His house but inside them. I analysed everything to the extent that I couldn’t hear what the Holy Spirit was saying to me. I prayed that if it was to be that the CEO of this whole company offer me another store himself. I left it at that knowing that He had heard me. Some months later the CEO did offer a new store. Not any store but a store that also had a Drive Thru. This was to be a first for this company, a flagship store and it was to open in 5-6 months – WOW!The bank rejected the proposal, but I knew this was from God. After returning to that same bank and telling them that we were doing this anyway – with them or without them, it was approved.

The 5-6 months came and went. After 2 years of indecision from the developer the store finally opened.During that time, we won ‘Franchisee of the Year’ through our first store. This was a wonderful honour and such a surprise. It truly was one of ‘Gods hugs along the way’. One of the prizes was a trip to Vietnam from which Brendon and I have just returned. At the beginning of that trip we enjoyed a wonderful time with the rest of our family in Cairns. One of the hardest sacrifices I have personally had to make was not always being there for the boys. So this time was very precious to me.

I have an incredible group of young people on my staff – I love them! They are awesome and they are Australia’s future. What a difference these guys can make to the Gold Coast, the state, the nation!

I have a responsibility to be an example, a Godly example and influence. I can encourage and spur on the ones that know Christ to go and take up everything God has for them, and I know that I know; that if these ones keep the ways of the Lord - they have an incredible future in front of them. And those of them that don’t know the Lord yet, well they get discipled along the way.We don’t have to strive (easier said than done) Our course is already set and it’s a good one, we just need to walk in it. God is surely a God of Promise. We must keep to His ways, not only keep them, but walk in them. We must tithe, to give Him back some of what is already His anyway. He Truly is a Good God.

So much blessing and favour comes from the principle of sowing and reaping.Never forget to sow, for there lies your harvest, don’t forget to continue to sow, so that you continue to harvest. I heard it once said that all you need is in the seed.I continue to thank God for what he has done and is doing in my and my family’s lives. Such an important thing to me is to be thankful. He sees and knows our hearts. I get excited every time we give a thanksgiving offering. I look forward with excitement and expectation the blessing that follows.

Thanks be to God who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power, that is at work within us, to Him be all the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen

putting on the apronabove & beyond – a daunting task when pastor kindah threw out the challenge for each family to undertake a proJect for this year.

I undertook the 21 day Daniel Fast in February with the main purpose of seeking a closer relationship with God and direction in various areas of my life.

In a recent staff meeting, Pastor Russ mentioned the increasing number of enquiries at CSA for assistance, in particular the area of food, and that they would be looking to set up a team to fulfil this need.

As he was speaking, my Spirit literally “leaped” inside, and I had to stop myself from jumping up and saying “Me! Me! Me!. After the meeting, I went straight to Pastor Russ and offered my services, then discussed it with my family, who were equally excited.

I immediately became pro-active, gathered others, sourced various suppliers and went back to Pastor Russ which led to me actually heading up the project. YEAH!!!

We will be cooking up a storm on Monday nights, commencing April.

This has become our Above & Beyond project for each family/individual involved for which we are all extremely excited.

We have room for more, so, if your “spirit leaped” as you were reading this and would like to be involved, please contact me on 0414 926 277.

Q. How are you going Above & Beyond in 2009?A. I’ve been running a cell group with Scott Blakemore on Friday afternoons since 2006 and recently became inspired to raise $10,000 to attend a youth leadership program in LA.

Q. How are you fund raising?A. I’ve begun selling boxes of chocolates with a goal to sell 200. I’ll also be holding various fundraising events such as a pizza & movie night - Wednesday 15 April, BBQ’s at youth on Friday nights and hopefully many donations.

Q. How are you going Above & Beyond at school?A. I’ve started to mix with people outside my own circle of friends, building relationships with some of the younger kids to be a positive role model and point them toward Jesus.

recognition –our reward

This expression of thanks from Clover Hill State School is a testimony to the work of the body of King’s Christian Centre in the way of CSA. The Community Support Agency goes Above and way Beyond their immediate community to touch the lives of families all over the Gold Coast. Through the support of CSA many families are touched. It is wonderful to see how one small act of kindness can have a domino effect and open doors of relief and help for struggling families who would often go unnoticed in the every day school system. The joy and appreciation from Clover Hill is a great motivator for all those who go Above and Beyond their job description to bring help to the needy.

chaplain’s reportthe theme of above and beyond has been extended from the church into the school chapel.

We at King’s Christian College are so blessed to have the support and encouragement of our church and pastors. In teaching Above and Beyond, King’s chaplains felt led to bless the other Scripture Union Qld chaplains in their ministry in the state schools of the Gold Coast by putting on an afternoon tea. These

chaplains often battle the tough challenge of ministering to our state school kids with little support from their local churches. We had approximately 25 chaplains attend for a time of camaraderie. We have received a thank you from one of the chaplains who was blown away by how blessed he was to have support and encouragement from other chaplains and the strength in knowing the mandate King’s has to go Above and Beyond in this area. He ended his note by saying “I look forward to working with your team this year to expand the Kingdom of God in our schools.” Amen! Let’s not grow weary of doing good.

watoto – 15 JulyHear the Voice of AngelsOne day in an obscure village in Uganda in 1992, Gary Skinner was touched by God through the life of one 79 year old widow. As she spoke to him he became more aware of the devastation of the HIV AIDS. He was reminded of the verse in James 1:27 that says, “Religion that GOD the Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after the orphan and the widow in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by

the world.” Taking up the call of God, Gary and his family founded the Watoto children’s orphanage and the now world-renowned choir. Watoto is a response to the cry of the orphaned and vulnerable children of Africa, whose lives have been ravaged by war and disease. Find out more on www.watoto.com
