    LOCAL JOB VACANCY POSTINGS : 3rd Quarter 2009

    Loc al job vac anc ies posted in major jobboards during the third quarter of 2009showed varying movements. In J uly, totalvac ancies posted stood at 54,707, increa s-ing to 56,241 in August and declining to55,348 by September. In terms of demand ,some sec tors in the local labor market stillexperienced a slowdown in economicactivity brought about by the global finan-c ial c risis, though, at a relative lesser ex-tent compared to the first and secondquarters of 2009. This indicates that the cri-sis is not yet totally over.

    Total Monthly Vacancies

    The biggest drop in vacanc y postings wasnoted in the Tec hnic ians and Assoc iate Pro-fessionals group which registered an incre-mental decline of 1,549 or 19 percent

    (19.3%) from August to September 2009. Thedemand for C lerks; Trades and Rela tedWorkers; Plant and Machine Operators andAssemblers; and Laborers and UnskilledWorkers also dropped at varying rates. Onthe o ther hand, an increase in demand wasnoted for Professionals, Officials of Govern-ment and Special Interest Organization,Corporate Executives, Managers, Manag-ing Proprietors and Supervisors; and Spe-cial Occupation, over the same period.

    Top Twenty Vacancies

    Annex A presents the top twenty (20) va-cancies by occupation ranked accordingto the number of job vacancies postedover the period J uly - September 2009. Thesame trend was observed compared tothe previous years demand situationerexcept for some oc cupations that made itto the list particularly oc cupa tions in the

    service sec tor.

    Of the top ten (10) vacancies, almost half of the oc cupations were for customer con-tac t workers namely: Call Center Agent,Customer Service Assistant, Technical Sup-port Assistant, and C all Center Represen-tative. IT-related occupa tions such as In-formation Technology (IT) Specialist, andDeveloper/Programmer were also con-sistently inc luded in the top twenty list of vacancies as the software industry con-tinues to expand with the carry over de-mand from the previous quarter for off-shore softwa re services.

    J obs in sales were also among the highly-in-demand oc cupations. These include va-cancies for Saleslady/Salesman, SalesC lerk, Sales Executive, Telemarketer andC ashier.

    Various opportunities for a job in accoun-tancy were also noted. These were spe-c ific ally for Ac c ount Offic er/ Exec utive/Ana lyst/Spec ialist, Ac counting Clerk, andAccountant.

    VACANCIES BY SECTOR

    By industry classification, the Services Sec-tor ac counted for almost ninety percent(89.9%) of the total vacancies posted. Themajor contributors within this industry groupwere Real Estate, Renting and BusinessAc tivities (50.8%) brought about by thecontinuous demand in BPO firms particu-larly in call center, and software develop-ment jobs.

    Meanwhile, only ten percent (10.0 %) of thetotal de mand c ame from Industry. J obopportunites in Industry were observed asgradually inc rea sing variably in the la ttermonth of this quarter 2009 particularly inthe construction and manufacturing sec-tor. This gradual increase was due to theon-going government and private con-struction projec ts and the c oming christmasseason were an increase in the consump-tion of goods are expected.
