INTRODUCTION
Jute is a long, soft, shiny vegetable fiber.
Jute is the common name given to the fiber
extracted from the stems of plants belonging tothe genus Corchorus, family Tiliaceae.
Jute is one of the most affordable natural
fibers.
It is a natural fiber with golden and silky shineand hence called The Golden Fiber.

FIBER EXTRACTION
Jute fiber develops inthe phloem, or bast,
region of the stem of
the plants;
in transversesections of the stem.

The suitable climate for growing jute is warmand wet climate.
Temperatures from 20C to 40C.
relative humidity of 70%80% are favorable forsuccessful cultivation.
Jute requires 58 cm of rainfall weekly.

SOIL
Jute needs a plain alluvial soil and standingwater.
Jute should not be grown continuously in the
same soil.

WEEDING
Jute infested with large number of weeds
Weeding are done at least 3 times withinmonth and a half from the date of sowing.
In most cases, farmers do 4-5 weeding.
Weeding operation is done by hand, moreeffective than the use of chemical weedcides.

It may be harvested within 4 months ifnecessary.

Jute fiber is 100% bio-degradable and recyclable andthus environmentally friendly
High initial modulus
Good insulating
Very little recoverable elasticity
Having low thermal conductivity.
Moderate moisture regain.
Jute has the ability to be blended with other fibres

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Some disadvantages include poor drapabilityand crease resistance, brittleness, fibershedding, and yellowing in sunlight.
Jute has a decreased strength when wet.
Becomes subject to microbial attack in humidclimates.

CARE
Jute can absorbs too much moisture and dueto that the fiber can begin to break down.
Jute rugs also don't fare well in high humidityenvironments, such as bathrooms
With proper care a jute rug will last manyyears in your home.

USES
Jute is the second most important vegetablefiber after cotton; not only for cultivation, butalso for various uses
Jute is used chiefly to make cloth for wrappingbales of raw cotton, and to make sacks andcoarse cloth
The fibers are also woveninto curtains, chair coverings, carpets, and
area rugs.
