Did you know that today, July 23, is Parent’s Day? Someone needs to tell my kids. Then the Lord called to the man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side 4and said to him, “Go throughout the city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it.” 5As I listened, he said to the others, “Follow him through the city and kill, without showing pity or compassion. 6Slaughter the old men, the young men and women, the mothers, and children, but do not touch anyone who has the mark. Ezekiel 9:3 - 6

Ezekiel is a difficult book for me. There are a lot of things that I do not understand about Ezekiel. Without a lot of background study the book can get very confusing. One thing is sure; God is bringing his vengeance upon the Jews for their idolatry. I don’t know about “a mark on the foreheads”, but it is obvious that having the mark is a good thing: “Do not touch anyone who has the mark.” So knowing who received the mark is important. God had a mark placed “on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in it.”

I find this interesting. Those who were saved were those who grieved over the bad things that were happening. They had a heart like God.

How long has it been that we had a good grieving for the sin that surrounds us? Usually we ignore it or learn to live with it. Sometimes we even embrace it. Everyone has the right to do their own thing.

If we have a heart like God we will “grieve and lament over all the detesta-ble things that are done” in our country, our communities and our homes. It re-minds me of the ending of the movie War Room where the cry goes forth for pray-er warriors in our homes. Today, if God sent his “man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side”, would we receive the mark?
