IMPORTANCE OF GPA
DOES EVERYONE KNOW HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR GPA?
Each letter grade is awarded points toward the GPA –Grade Point Average.
A = 4 points
B = 3 points
C = 2 points
D = 1 point
F= 0 points
Add together your total points and divide that number by the number of classes and you will have an idea of your GPA.
PATHWAY OPTIONSPathway Completion Assessment
(After student has completed 3 full credits in any given
Pathway, he or she will take the completion Assessment for
Pathway Completion)
Pathway Courses include the following:
*Foreign Language
*Fine Arts
*Audio/Video Technology
*JROTC
* Administrative/Support (Business Courses)
* Marketing (Management or Sports Entertainment)
*Digital Technology (APPS & Gaming or Web Design)
*Magnet Program (Film & Media)- (Application online)
*Fire Fighter Academy- (Application online)
CTAE COMPLETION
To complete a CTAE Pathway, a student must complete 3 units in the same career pathway.
After completing the 3rd course in a pathway, students will take an End of Pathway Assessment for an opportunity to earn an industry credential.
How do students benefit?
The student is ensured participation in a program that has been carefully aligned with current industry standards.
CTAE ASSESSMENT
Career Technical and Agricultural Education
(CTAE) provides all Georgia students with the
opportunity to select a minimum of least 3
sequential electives called a career pathway,
along with recommended academic course work,
to prepare them to continue their education at
any level or enter the world of work.
End of pathway assessments will be given at the
end of the third course allowing students to earn
a state and/or nationally certified certificate.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT
An Advanced Placement or AP course is a college level course taught at the high school level.
Students are expected to take the AP exam at the end of the course. The cost of the exam is approximately $92 and is the responsibility of the student.
Students can earn a score of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam.
To earn college credit for the AP course, a student must score a 3 or higher. This may vary from college to college.
Keep in mind that the expectations for students in AP courses are similar to those of a college course.
Some AP courses could have mandatory summer work.
DUAL ENROLLMENT (DE)
Historically only open to rising Juniors & Seniors, however, the
State of Georgia has recently opened Dual Enrollment to rising
Sophomores
There are more stipulations from the State of Georgia for
rising sophomores regarding high school course completion
prior to DE (example: Alg. I, Geometry, & Alg. II).
All other stipulations/requirements come directly from the
college or University.
Majority of MMHS students attend Clayton State University,
Georgia Military College, or Perry Learning Center (Atlanta
Technical University).
State stipulations regarding course requirements, HOPE, and
Scholarships can be found at www.GAfutures.org.
Honors and ap courses
No Points are added to final grades for Honors Courses at this time.
These are prep courses for AP.
AP Courses are weighted on a 5.0 scale. This means that a B will be
a 4.0, a C will be a 3.0, and so on. An “A” will be a 5.0.
Some schools opt to add points to the final grade in Honors, & AP
courses.
Any points added to the final grade are stripped by Georgia
Student Finance Commission when calculating the student’s HOPE
GPA.
