By: Jaime Ibarra and Maleny HernandezLight Up Iraan
Iraan’s annual Christmas festival known as “Light Up Iraan,” came to town on the 2nd of Decem-ber, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Before the doors even opened a crowd full of parents were standing outside with their children who were all eager to sit on Santa’s lap. Finally when all the preparations were finished, the doors opened and the festivities be-gan. The first order of buisness as every person walked through the door was to buy tickets so that peo-ple of all ages could play the numer-ous games that were set up. Not only were there games to play but the fes-tival aslo consisted of booths of dif-ferent catorgies that were set up by Churches, Project Graduation, High School organizations and so on. Some of the booths that were seen was the split the spot raffle held by Project Graduation. A table of goodies that consistied of caramel apples, homemade banana nut bread, homemade cookies and even a few pies that were being auctioned off. Moving on, there was a Gumdrop Putt Putt event that lead into a cookie sale put on by Iraan High’s Spanish Club. All around the venue there was games, toys, auctions and not to mention great food. The main event of the eve-ning however was not the games or food but the arrival of Santa Clause. Leading into his arrival there was a show put on by the Twinkle Toes Dance Studio and the famous tradi-tional caroling. Santa finally entered the venue and made every childs wish come true. With a line from one wall to the other it was sure seen that Light up Iraan was once again a big success. Thank you to all the people who helped put on the festival, your work is truly appreciated. We can’t wait to see you next year. Merry Christmas!

Counselor’s Cornerby Martha Toth
The University of Texas at the Permian Basin visited with students and parents about dual-credit classes, the application and admission process, financial aid, scholarships, and much more on Wednesday, December 16th . The meeting took place in the Tech Center as the UTPB representatives discussed the concurrent classes being offered at Iraan High School. Iraan students are tak-ing concurrent classes via on-line course to aquire college credits be-fore they graduate for high school. It is important that the students and parents are well informed on the process the students need to do in or-
der to take these courses. The colleg-es require students to take the THEA test. Underclassmen who are think-ing of taking concurrent course need to begin preparation for the THEA. Seniors, if you have not done so, see Mrs. Toth to sign up for your collegeplanning session. The sign up is by my office. Juniors are also encour-aged to sign up with Mrs. Toth to begin their college process. Par-ents and students be sure to watch for future student/parent college nights for other opportunities. It is never to early to get started on planning for your future.
Students that plan to attend col-lege will need to take the ACT and PSAT Test along with the THEA or COMPASS entrance exams. You may make an ap-pointment with me by calling 639-3145.

On December 9, Mrs. Schneider’s The-atre Arts Class performed an excerpt from the play called, “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.”The play was about menacing kids who did not know the true meaning of Christmas and did not want to participate in the Nativity Scene that happened every year. After finding out the true mean-
ing of Christmas the kids had a change of heart and were finally up for doing the traditional Nativity Scene. The play consisted of humorous scenes and entertaining dialogue. The actors themselves were a great entertainment for the elementary kids. They put in a lot of effort in making the kids laugh and enjoy every minute of the play.
Great thanks to Mrs. Sch-neider and her students for making the play enjoyable. “The students were excited to do a Christmas play that would appeal to ev-eryone from Pre-K through 12th grade. Being a class of hams, it was easy for these students to get excited and involved in pulling off a production in three weeks” exclaimed Mrs. Schneider.
